Quote from: TurboXray on 10/31/2016, 08:54 PMUhm... I don't remember TurboRip ripping audio tracks to mp3 files. Are you sure you're talking about TurboRip?

Edit: Also, some PCE games have multiple data tracks. That's normal.
Sorry, I meant WAV files. Anyway, thanks for the info, I've never seen any CD-ROM video games with multiple data tracks before.

Hi there,

So I bought a Blu-Ray burner lately to make 2nd backups of files that were on my Ext HDD as well as my library of games on discs. I've backed up my games for , PS1, PS2, SEGA CD, Dreamcast (using Dreamshell), OG XBOX, PSP (using my Slim 3000) Wii and GameCube (using my Wii to install games on an Ext HDD). Now I'm down to Saturn and PC-Engine and that last one is a real pain.

I use IMGBurner to rip my discs and most of my PC-Engine games can't seem to get past the analysis part. A few games are able to go through, but most of them don't. The games do work and barely have any marks on them, so it's not a defect issue.

I googled on how to rip PC-Engine CD games and found a program called TurboRip, but it doesn't work properly. The program rips the games in 3 seconds and nothing really works, I mean the files are there, but Daemon Tools can't load the Cue file or the ISO file and Winamp can't play the MP3s, so it really didn't do anything besides creating space on my HDD. Also, some games had multiple ISO files which doesn't seem normal. Finally, I don't really care for having MP3 files, I would rather have a single Bin and Cue file.

Does anyone have a solution to rip the games normally with IMGBurn or a program similar to this?

Thank you

The unit was sold to a fellow Canadian from these forums, Trenton_net.

Thank you

$20 bucks off, any less than this and it goes back in the closet.

I'll recommend the game series that got me into the PCE scene, the Valis games (I to IV).

Quote from: guest on 03/20/2014, 12:00 PMDo you have a rough idea what shipping to the states would be?
I quoted someone in Florida for $60: Xpresspost USA, includes: box, padding, tracking, $200 insurance and a signature.

This should give you a general idea depending on your State.

Oh, it's a guy, OK then. Anyway, PC-Engine still up for sale BTW, everyone seems to be thinking about it so far.

Not as expensive as importing a PC-Engine from it's source, Japan :P

Quote from: Trenton_net on 03/17/2014, 03:32 PMDo you have any closer pictures of the unit itself? Specifically how clean/dirty/white/non-white the units are?
I can take a close-up picture if you want.

Edit: As you can see by the pics, it's not white as a Wiimote, but not even close to be golden or piss yellow like the bottom of an American SNES.

It's strange that my location doesn't show up in my profile when I did put it in my profile.

OK, round 2 with this thing, gonna ask for money this time since I bought the stuff I wanted as a trade last time.

-White PC-Engine
-White Controller
-Interface Unit with cover, manuals and box
-Custom AC-Adapter
-AV Cables
-System card 1.0
-System 3.0 with original case and manual
-Snatcher Pilot Disk
-CD-ROM2 unit which has a small skipping problem once in a while, game will keep playing but music will stop for the duration of the stage, probably a lens issue, hence why I'll include a compatible replacement (didn't have the tools to replace it myself and since I bought a PC-Engine Duo, didn't feel like it)

Price: $150 $130 + shipping which will be calculated based on your location.

Shipping will include insurance and a tracking number, if you don't like it, thought, I'd rather loose a sale than going into a Paypal case for a lost or damaged package, my time is worth more than that.

See picture attached in the topic.

EDIT: $20 bucks off, any less than this and it goes back in the closet.

Quote from: Trenton_net on 02/13/2014, 10:12 AMI have the following games available (somewhere in my house! lol):

I can't guarantee I'll part with anything, but if you PM me clearer pictures of your briefcase setup and parts, I might be able to work something out.
Only see Mad City in there that's on my Famicom list, don't want the rest. Also, you can click on the picture and it will get bigger.

Guess people like to keep their games, can't  blame ya. But anyway, if no one makes an offer by the 21st, I'm closing the deal, putting the system back into the closet and buying the games myself online.

Deals off, topic closed

Going to put this on hold for now since I bought a replacement lens kit from BlueBMW. If for some reason this doesn't fix the problem, I'll re-open a new topic.

Shoot me a pm with your info.

Quote from: BlueBMW on 05/21/2013, 11:25 AMNo, these are just the laser pickup.  Kieth courage and chop5 have alternate gear solutions.  Motors typically have to be harvested from other cd drives.
Just for giggles, how much for a replacement lens kit?

Brand new old stock sony kss-225a lasers.  Slight differences from the kss-220a and 162, but confirmed compatible.
Does it come with a new motor and better gears since it's a higher model :P ?

Well this is more of a "Price Check" topic since I didn't want to simply rely on ebay prices to determine how much this is worth.

Quote from: SignOfZeta on 05/20/2013, 08:33 PMWith a system this old you are always going to have to fix something once in a while. If you dump this for a Duo then the Duo will crap on you next year, and then what do you do, dump it and get yet another system?
As stated before, issues with Duo are mainly capacitor issues which are both easily to acquire and replace compared to a PCE CD-ROM lens kit. Speaking of which, lens kit for a Duo are easy to find on ebay and retro stores, so if that ever goes wrong, it's still easier to fix than a CD-ROM2.

Quote from: guest on 05/20/2013, 03:20 PMI agree with Beemer that you should try and get it fixed, but I might be interested depending on what you're looking for it.  Are you in the US?
I already contacted him, he replied with an offer and I replied him back, waiting for his response now :)
I'm in Canada, so close enough.

Quote from: the_importer on 05/19/2013, 02:13 PMDon't know him but sounds like he's someone on this board who fixes things. Still, the price he would charge to fix this (even if it was like $50) plus the price of shipping back and forth with tracking would probably amount to the price of a PCE Duo.
Still might be worth looking into since you've already got the hardware.  If you still decide to go for a PCE Duo, keep in mind that original models have capacitor issues that should be addressed.  DuoR and RX models have not exhibited such issues yet and may be a better choice.
I'll still PM him out of curiosity and as for the Duo, I know about the capacitor issues but unlike CD Lens and motor issues, capacitors are easy to find, cheap and can be done by my friend for free :)

EDIT: I know Keith Courage, well know is a strong word, he's the one who originally tried to help me out when I first posted.

Well finding a working replacement CD-ROM2 unit seems to be impossible, so I was thinking of selling my PC-Engine briefcase and buying a PCE Duo instead, well at lease if I can get a good price for it:

-PC-Engine briefcase with cover, original box, manuals and inserts
-Generic AV cables
-NA power supply modified to be compatible with this setup
-Original White PC-Engine system with original controller (just the system and pad)
-Defective CD-ROM2 unit which seems to work most of the time with CD-ROM2 games and skips most of the time with Super CD-ROM games (music basically stops)
-System card 3.0

If I can get a decent price for this, I'll sale it, if not, I'll keep it for collection purposes.

EDIT: Added pictures. White sheet of paper to show to white level of the console (don't know if it was ever meant to be pure white, but I know lots of people like to compare like this).

-I'm looking for these complete (don't need to be mint, but not damaged either)
-I'm looking to buy in a lot, not one game at the time unless it's very cheap with shipping
-I'm in Canada
-Take your time, I'll only pay for these on May 22nd
-I'll need pictures of each item (post or PM)
-I don't have a Paypal account, so you'll need to send me a Paypal bill so that I may pay with my credit card

Don't have a Paypal account :P

I could sale you games an for an ebay gift card which you could send me digitally :)

EDIT: Wait, scratch that, you still need a Paypal account for those, damn,
Guess I could also take hardware such as controllers or hell, I would trade those DC games for a working CD-ROM2 unit to replace mine

Quote from: Keith Courage on 04/20/2013, 07:09 AMLots of old sony discmans have compatible lasers. Off the top of my head models D-4, D-11,D-12,D33,D34. There may be others but can't remember right now. Check out ebay for one.
I just checked the ebay prices of these vintage Discman, not cheap. Guess these ebay sellers didn't get the message that music CDs are obsolete -_-

For these prices, might as well buy another CD-ROM2 unit

Quote from: BlueBMW on 04/20/2013, 11:47 PMAs far as I know this is a free trade environment so you can offer to trade a car for pc engine games if you wish.
Good, cause I just so happen to have one that I don't use :P
#36
Are we restricted to trade PCE games for PCE games here or may I offer games from other systems for PCE games?
#37
My money is on the lens mechanic but even if it is or not, I'm not skilled in repairing electronics, my friend is but he doesn't have that kind of time.
Also, if I need to buy a kss-162a kit, it may be less troublesome to buy a new CD-ROM2 unit. I've seen some for $90, so I don't know if it's a good deal, I'll need to look into that.
#38
Quote from: Keith Courage on 04/18/2013, 04:56 AMStill sounds like either weak lens or an out of adjustment pot 2 or 3 that I mentioned.
Been playing with those pots for a couple of days now, I got the games running very well minus the music that stops whenever I hear that clicking noise. Pretty sure I've done all I can with the potentiometers, I think some parts need to be change to fix the rest of the problem. I'll see if fixing it cost more than buying another stand-alone CD-ROM2 unit.

Quote from: the_importer on 04/17/2013, 10:55 AMBesides ebay of course, where where you can find lots of PCE games at good prices (both Hucards and CD games).

I personally know of Japan Game Stock, but that's about it.
Amazon can be hit or miss. Best bet really is getting pce stuff here.
Amazon is a big No No in Canada since amazon.ca sucks major salty balls.

Buying on forums is great, but since I like buying my games in bulk to save on shipping, forum user usually have 1 or 2 games that I want.

Putting NEO-GEO aside, PC-Engine games (Card or CD) are very expensive compared to other retro systems. Are they rarer or simply overpriced? Mind you, I'm not using ebay as a reference but other online stores that I normally do business with.

Thanks

Double posting for update:

The potentiometers looked about the same in mine, so I tried using other settings.

1- First thing I tried didn't play anything
2- Second thing I tried played an entire music CD with almost little issues and well as Valis II and Valis III but with no music and both of them froze while loading the first boss while Valis IV didn't run at all
3- I put things back to the original settings but this time, I got better results where all 3 games played, nothing froze (well at lease not permanently) but I had no music or the music played for a minute then stopped.

Guess millimeters must make a different with these potentiometers.

Quote from: PunkCryborg on 04/15/2013, 02:14 PMlooks like you have a lot of junk to get rid of to make space for more pce games :D
Now, now, I have no patience with current Console Generation War so I sure as hell won't try to relive the old ones -_-
#44
Quote from: guest on 04/15/2013, 01:30 PMDo you live in a shoebox or something?
No I just don't have space for a 2nd CD tower and I don't have any more room after I buy all the games I planed for this system. I should mention, I'm a game collector, not just a PCE collector, so I limit the amount of games I buy for a system and I also try to collect by series.

run an audio cd
track search around and play strait through
if good supply issue likely
if not clean and grease the slide rails on the cd drive and try again
Although I didn't mention it, I did clean the lens, pretty much the first thing I did :P

Quote from: Fidde_se on 04/15/2013, 10:38 AMWe should note that when running cd in a briefcase setup it's pretty picky about the Ampere rating, there are people having problem that runs the setup with 9-10v negative center pin and just using 1A, going less then that it might not even start spinning. the briefcase says on the back 10W, 9V 1450mA (9*1.45=13.05W), personally I run with original MD1 10V 1250mA (10*1,25=11.25W) and never had any problem, so taking those 10W around it gives us 10w/9v=1.11A

I once tried running the setup with a power adapter giving 9v 600mA and it runs the PCE and or Briefcase with hucards, but would run cds, and trying a few times it sometimes looked like it worked but would stop working at the intro screen.

So always see that the voltage adapter can give enough ampere.
The universal AC I got has 1700mA at a 9V setting.

Quote from: Keith Courage on 04/15/2013, 03:48 AMThis pic is pretty close to what they should be although I have seem some that can be a bit different.

http://i200.photobucket.com/albums/aa150/boostedk20a/Laser%20guide/pic_06.jpg

From right to left in the pic I know that the 1st is CD spindle speed, 2nd lens gain, 3rd some type of positioning for the lens, 4th and 5th (white pots) usually don't ever have to be adjusted.
Thanks, I'll give it a try regardless of what my friend thinks since he's got no other solution anyway.

Hellfire-S looks interesting, kind of a Dirty Pair feel to the Anime part, think I'll go with that one.
