10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Final Lap Twin & Bomberman are mine. I wonder if people favor the first game they really loved on TG over quality of game.  Or if they favor the games they played as kids - that's the case with me.

Did you have a status asking about TurboExpress?  Or are you in a TG FB group?  I want people to facebook me about selling TG stuff.
#3
I remember figuring out a way to hook my Express up to our cable channels and to the VCR.  Only problem was that you were wired and immobile.

Mine were all consecutive Christmases I believe.

89 - TG
90 - TGCD - that wrapped box was so big it didn't fit under the tree. It was awesome!
91 - TurboExpress - my dad put the TV tuner in the tree like an ornament. I played my Express the most and thought it was the most incredible thing ever invented.  I could watch TV and play my favorite games wherever I wanted. I was attached to that thing for a few years. Great memories.

It's cool to hear where everyone got their TGs from.

I bought a second boxed system and it still has the Sears price tag on it.  I never remember seeing them there.  What other major retailers sold TG?

This may have been a topic in the past, but I was wondering where everyone bought their TG stuff in the 90s.

I grew up in Oklahoma and the only place I saw TGs for sale was Toys-R-Us.  It was like a Saturday ritual to go there and see if anything new had come out.  I remember when I was able to convince my dad to buy a new game, you had to take the paper slip for the game you wanted to buy to the front of the store to actually get it.  That was a feeling of triumph!  Those were the days!

This is awesome!  Will be getting in line for some of these as well.

As a kid, I was not to careful with my cases.  I actually have a lot of cases where just the little plastic strip to hold the card in is broken.  Would it be possible to just sell those separately as well?  Not sure about cost/time and all that jazz.

Thanks for doing this!  Good luck on working everything out.

I live in the Chicago area.  TG stuff rarely comes up on craigslist (except for common) - I think I've only bought two times on there over the years.

One of those buys was from a guy who had picked up a bunch of TG games at a garage sale a few years before.  He never had a TG system - just the games.  He had Air Zonk, Chase HQ, Neutopia, Neutopia II, & Military Madness.  Blew my mind!  Wish I could find those kind of garage sales!

I remember when I saw the Turbo Express in Enemy of the State, I had a yell at the screen moment because I was so excited just to see that someone else knew Turbografx existed!

Awesome games.  Good prices.  Wish I would have seen this before most things were gone!

I went the more expensive route and bought some TG box protectors - the exoskeleton approach.  They're definitely worth it and I don't have as much fear of crushing my boxes, but I definitely dig your DIY approach!

This is awesome. I have the problem of repeatedly taking battery doors off of stuff. Good to know there is a possible replacement if I ever wear the express's out.

Please sign me up.  Although I know I am but a jerry jelly. Never played Fantasy Zone!  Thanks.

That's insane.  One of the rare times that the price didn't sky rocket.  Every time I've followed just boxes being sold (entering triple digits now) the price has jumped way out of my league with under a minute, but nothing happened here...  Just got to hit the right moment.
#17
Seems like that is a steal.  What would that have all sold for individually?
#18
Interested.  PM sent.

Yep.  I saw this too and literally laughed out loud.  If anything, maybe it is bringing some good laughs through the ridiculousness of it!

I paid $150 for complete in box off craigslist this summer.  I have the box from my original TG, but apparently that Xmas morning in 1989 I wasn't in a patient mood and tore it up a bit.  Kept all my boxes, but I threw out all of my styrofoam.  So, I have the boxes for Express, TG, and TGCD, but no styrofoam.

How hard is it to find just boxes for particular games?  Depends on game I'm sure.  I've watched a few eBay auctions with just boxes and the price jumps way out of my price range at the end.  I mean way out of my price range.
#22
Yeah - I'd be interested in hearing the story behind these as well.  If anyone knows - please share.  Thanks.

Are these new?

PMed you with an offer a few days ago.  Let me know what you think.  Thanks.

Package arrived beautifully.  Had a great transaction.  Thanks.

What's the difference between the Y's 1 & 2 Duo version vs. the TG version?  Thanks.

Thanks for the help everyone.  I just bought the Super System Card listed above.

Is everything under "for sale" just the hu and no case or manual?  Let me know.  Thanks.
#28
Great.  Thanks for the quick response.

I'm trying to decide if I want to try to collect everything CIB because that's what I have so far OR if I should just go for the jewel case, manual, and Hu/CD.  Does the box add that much value?  I enjoy the chase of finding CIB.  Where do you guys get most of your games - trade on here or ebay?

Also, is there a place to get the jewel cases with the hucard or just the hucard plastic insert for the cases?  Thanks.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB - Super System Card

Hello friends,

I've recently started collecting Turbografx stuff again.  I grew up playing my express, turbografx CD, and such.  Saved all the boxes for everything.  I'm looking at getting a Super System Card.  I was wondering if there are any available from people on the site or if I should just buy one off of feebay?  Seem to be going for around $200.  Is that about right?  Thanks for any help.

Robert

PS - I beat bomberman the other night.  It took me a month to beat that when I was little.  It took one night to beat it now.

Shoot - I just found this site last week.  I'm trying to get out of my shell on the site and get my TurboExpress repaired.  Hope more opportunities like this present themselves.

Thanks.

Steve,

I ordered an entire set of aluminum capacitors to fix my TE before finding this site.  I want to reorder everything ceramic now.  Are you saying to just use ceramic ones up to 22uf and then use aluminum over 22uf?  Or can I use ceramic to replace them all?

Should I get the exact Volts with ceramic?  If not, how many volts higher is within allowable range?  Thank you very much!
