It shouldn't be too hard to find the game for about $100, probably without the map & double case and you'll have to be patient.

Any good places to check aside from eBay, or is that pretty much as good as any other place?

Yeah, it's not like I was checking every single day for years or something. Just, seemed like it didn't show up that often, and when it did, it was nearer $200 than not. Must just be missing it or finding the wrong auctions or such.
If I could find it for around $100, that would be closer to the sort of price where I'd be willing to just go ahead and buy it and take my chances with everything else.

Guess I'll just have to keep a better eye out for it.

When I decided to buy BS, I just check everytime I was on eBay. I missed a couple around $100 because I couldn't be online to bid at the last minute.

Eventually I got one for about $100 and after playing it to death eventually sold it on eBay again for $100.

Now, I could've easily sold it for more if I wanted to, but I wasn't looking to make a buck on another Turbo fan's back. Of course, I'm pretty sure that the person who bought it was an online seller.

Alright. Guess I just need to be more consistant about checking every day to make sure I don't miss anything then.

Yeah, as I said, I'm definitely willing to spend money when I have to, don't have a problem with that.
Just, it's too bad that some things aren't more affordable. Would make "trying out a game to see if it was fun" much easier.

Really it's hardly like the other games in the series.  As you mentioned, it's plays like Maniac Mansion and instead of primarily being in a Castle, you go everywhere.  You can also fight and stuff (though the gameplay isn't too great).  Not sure what else to say about, personally nothing about the game really impressed me and I was a huge fan of the original (and this is coming from someone who got his relatively cheap).  It's basically a slow adventure game with the style of Shadowgate loosely injected.

To me however, what tipped the scales was the humor in the game. It is funny and the number of little things you can do and ways to die, it was as fun to me to try and die as it was to try and win.

Hi all. Stumbled across this thread when trying to gather some more information on Beyond Shadowgate, and, although most of the posts in this thread are a few months old, it seemed like a good place to check out.

I actually don't own a any of the PCEngine/Turbo/etc. systems. Have played them in the past, but nonetheless. Fun system, just, never got around to buying it.
Why I'm here is, I'm a huge fan of the Shadowgate series. Yeah, I know, not many games to really call it a "series," mainly just the NES one (and later port to GBC) and the N64 one. Then, this one.

Unfortunately, information about it is rather hard to come by. As well, the game itself (at least on eBay) doesn't show up very often, and when it does is up around $200. Although, reading the posts here, it seems that's pretty much the average price. So, not really any good way around that issue. Are there any other good places to check out for this game though? Even if the price isn't necessarily any less, just other places to look.

What I'd like to know is, how does it compare to the other two Shadowgate games? It seems more like a Maniac Mansion/King's Quest/etc. type of Adventure game, at least from what I can gather of it. Of course, the NES one was a point-and-click Adventure, with the N64 one being more of a free-roaming 3D Adventure game. Still, hard to really gather from the little information I have how exactly it would compare to the other two games.

Obviously, if it were a less expensive game, I'd just go ahead and buy it and figure all these things out for myself. It's not like money is that big of a problem or something though, I don't mind paying for stuff if it's really something I want. Still, considering that I'd be paying not only the cost of the game, but the cost of the system as well, I'd like to gather some more information on it.

In any event, sorry for bumping up an old thread like this.
I appreciate any additional information I can gather.
