Hello everyone!

As the title states, just looking for a US Turbo Duo pad! I have plenty of PC engine control pads, but I'm looking for a US one to match my Turbo Duo.

I prefer loose, but don't mind a boxed one if the price is right.

I'm down to trade. I have plenty of games (mostly non-turbo RPGs, JRPGs, Pokemon etc) for trade. Lots of other stuff, let me know what you're looking for!

I can pay via paypal gift to avoid fees.Let me know! Thanks everyone!

PM sent regarding that system card!

Congrats on the engagement, marriage is a trip, but well worth it in the end my friend!

Going from the 6270 to the two SRAM chips? I checked last night, but I may have missed something. I'll go over it again more thoroughly after work.

Thanks for the help guys.

hello all.

I'm working on a TG16, and keep getting strange graphical issues. Here's an example.

http://i58.tinypic.com/287eplz.jpg

I'm pulling composite off the rf modulator pin. Same result when I pull from the expansion bus.

I've tried cleaning the cart slot, but no luck. Any ideas?

Thanks all!

Is one of the system cards an Arcade DUO card? Or any kind of the DUO specific cards? If I remember correctly, those cards only work correctly on DUO systems.

I could be incorrect about this, as I've never tried it. If I am, someone please feel free to correct me.

Got 1 for myself, and ordered another for my friend who needs one. Shipped fast, and they look amazing!

Send me a PM, I'm in the US, but I'd be happy to do the mod for you. I can provide references and plenty of pics of my work :)

I knew it! That must be why I have the power to randomly have internal bleeding!

I've only gotten into fixing Turbo/PCE stuff in the last few years myself. I've been fixing just about everything else for years and years though. These guys have a good point, I can't tell you how many Game Gears I've recapped for people. Great place to start and get some solid soldering experience.

PM sent! My naked Duo will be so happy!

Thanks man!!! I've used them for random bits before, but never noticed it on there. Thanks man!

Hello everyone.

I'm recapping yet another Turbo Express, and the customer asked if I could replace the DC jack as well, as the center pin is broken and missing entirely. I told him I wasn't sure if I'd be able to source the part, and was wondering if anyone here knows where to find one that would work. I have a ton of old DMG gameboys, I was thinking of pulling one from them, but haven't been at home long enough to tear one apart and check.

Any info would be appreciated, thanks gents!

Hello friends.

So I recently repaired a friends Turbo Express, and as luck would have it, the planets aligned, and I found ANOTHER Turbo Express on Craigslist.  As suspicious as that sounds  :-" But, nothing here is un-kosher.

Anywho, I bought it solely to fix it, and pass it onto someone that has yet to obtain one for their collection. When I bought it, the system was dirty, neglected, and silent. It was sort of like those ASPCA commercials with the depressing music and shelter dogs. On a related note, always opt for a shelter dog! So, I replaced every cap on the board, and cleaned the battery contacts, board, and outside of the system. This thing is squeaky clean, and looks/sounds great!

There are a few minor cosmetic flaws, so i've taken pictures of them, and will list them below. I don't want someone feeling cheated, so I want the potential buyer to know exactly what they're getting.

-Small scuff on top right of the screen. Not noticeable when turned on
-light scuffs on front and on rear of the console near left side of the cart slot. The camera makes them look brighter than they really are, not noticeable unless you tilt it under bright lighting, which i did on purpose.
-one of the battery tabs is a little bent, but it's fully functional, and I tried my best to get it as straight as possible.
-two stuck pixels, one green and one red. Hopefully you can see them in the picture. From what I understand, most units have these. Luckily these aren't terribly noticeable.

Here's some pictures for you:

If you'd like to see video of the audio working, I'll gladly post one on my IG (@pvgluke) for your viewing and hearing pleasure.

So, I'd like to get $200 for the system, but I'm open to offers. I will throw in a TurboVision adapter if I can find the thing too if you want one. I would OPTIMALLY like to do a straight trade for a Persona Q 3dsXL system for my wife. I can't seem to find them around here sadly, and shes a huge persona fan. Any proceeds from this will be going towards one. So if you have one, or have access to one, and totally want a Turbo Express instead, I'll be your buddy, guy.

Shipping with USPS Priority. If feedback or references needed on here, I can provide them, since I mainly lurk. Thanks for looking! Feel free to ask any questions about this system, and I'll do my best to answer them!  :D

So, to keep it short and sweet, I replaced the caps in another Turbo Express I recently got. I plugged in the ac adapter, and turned it on. All was well then suddenly it shut off. Now it won't power back on at all. I tested the ac adapter with my other unit and it works fine.

Could something have fried? Maybe blew the fuse? Any insight is appreciated. I don't have my meter on me at the moment  ](*,) thanks everyone!

Hello folks. So I have some vacation time from work I'm using before the end of the year, which means I have a bunch of free time. I decided to make a "universal" controller adapter for all the delicious Obey.

It's not finished yet exactly, thinking of cleaning up the internals. I have a few questions, since I'm not familiar with these controllers. I know they're different from other controllers, and by that I mean the system polls each pin for one button press or the other, as opposed to clock, latch, etc. That being said, I added a mode switch temporarily, along with indicator LEDs to display which output mode is activated. I connected the LEDs to the 5v pins but regardless of the switch position, both outputs work. I guess there's no real need for it, but I live in 'Murrica and I do what I want for science reasons.  So if anyone would know which pins I would need to switch on or off to disable the one controller output, it would be appreciated.

Here's a few WIP pics. Please excuse the hot glue until I find some epoxy... Anyone else ever do something like this? I know its a little bulky, but i don't really mind.

Thank you everyone for all the help!

I checked out the sticky thread on adjusting the laser, and hooked up the duo to my scope and multimeter today and started tweaking everything.

I've gotten it to read all my real cd based games perfectly, and most of my burns as well. Still a few giving me trouble. The ones that are giving me problems are all much larger games, so that may be the culprit in and of itself like you gentlemen had said. I'm not too worried about it reading them all anyway. Gives me me an excuse to buy more games now.

I like to try out sme of the more expensive games before I commit to buying them usually, to see if they're worth the entrance fee so to speak (as as sacriligious as that sounds). It's how I ended up with a lot of my more expensive titles! Try before you buy.

Long story short, I'm just worried that it will have trouble reading actual games of a larger size down the line when I get them. Should I be worried? Or is this only a usual symptom for cd-r burns? Thanks again!

I have the system sitting open in front of me now.

I can get dynastic hero to play, but only if I wiggle the spur on the motor when it locks up at the far right, if I wiggle it and let it go back, it will play the game.

Bad burn maybe like you said?

Hello all

I've recently run into a problem with my Duo. Keith Courage repaired it months ago, and everything works fine (Thanks again!) That is, until I started playing more CD games with it.

Before, I only had a few CD games, and didn't use it all that much. Now that I started getting more CD games, the laser assembly will jam or lock up all the way on the right side, forcing me to open up the console and reset it by hand. It's getting incredibly frustrating at this point. It will only do that on certain games though.

Keep in mind, this unit has been recapped, and showed no issues, as far as I could tell, beforehand. I tried cleaning and greasing the spokes of the gears, but still the same issue. Lens is also very clean.

The games it locks up on are:

4-in-1 Gate of Thunder
Dynastic Hero
Hellfire S (locks up after beating the first level, WTF?)
Terraforming
Super Air Zonk

Those are the only ones, so far, that made it lock up. It won't even read the disks, the screen goes black, and then the cd stops spinning and when I open it up, the laser is locked in place on the far right side.

What could be causing this? Is the laser dying? Do I need to tune the trimmer caps? Why is it only happening on some games? I can play through Lords of Thunder or Prince of Persia no problem, but if I even put super Air Zonk in, NOPE.

Any and all help is appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

Here is my haul for the weekend. Picked everything here up as a bundle for 250. Not great, but not too bad either! The bulk of the price came from Soldier Blade and Super Star Soldier though. The owner of the store I get them from is long time friend, so I always get hooked up luckily. Now my problem is that I don't know what to play...  ](*,)

Quote from: HoocasLenkels on 01/27/2014, 06:12 PMHas anyone gotten their stuff from OP yet? I've been left in the dark since last week and haven't heard from him. I paid right away and he said he'd ship it on Wednesday.

I'm really hoping its just a miscommunication, and I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt.
Good luck, but always use caution when dealing with people that have so little posts. Did you get a tracking number yet?
Nope, not even a tracking number. He said he'd print the label and ship it on Thursday. I've messages him a few times, any reply is pretty vague.

Worst case scenario I get my money back through PayPal and my bank. But I'd rather not go through the hassle, and just get the stuff I paid for. Who knows.

Go ahead and add my name! This looks sweet, my turbo express is quite lonely on my desk anymore!

Hello folks.

I'm new here to the forums, so pardon my ignorance if this is old news. (sorry for the sideways pics. My ipad refuses to post the friggin pictures correctly for some stupid reason!  ](*,)

I was at work the other day, and happened upon a box of random ACAs. Inside was this little guy (pictured.) I read the output, and checked the tip, and had lightning strike. I rescued it from being tossed, and took it home. Low and behold, it works! The output is 7.5V 1a, which is the same as the TE/PCGT AC adapters. Works like a charm, and I couldn't be happier.

Anyway, thought I'd let you all know. Google search "NetGear yp-040" and you'll find them in abundance online for around $10-$20 USD. Not bad if I say so myself. Here's a picture of it working as well. Don't mind the "Turbo Express" etched hastily into it, it's just so I remember what it's for haha!

I hope this helps out some of you looking for a cheap ACA for your Turbo Express!

I'll enter.

I"ve been wanting this game, and none of my local shops have a copy! Good luck everyone!

So I cleaned out all the via holes very carefully. I also replace 3 different OP amps. The first one, between the capacitors on top. I tested it afterwards and the sound seemed to be a little better. When it started going out, It would fluctuate more, and almost sounded like it was fighting to stay on.

Then, I replaced the two on the underside, and now I have no sound at all! I thought maybe one of them was bad, so I swapped both out for 2 more brand new ones, and still nothing but quiet buzzing. I'm afraid I've killed my duo! #-o

Is there any way to fix this? I'm willing to pay someone to try their hand at it. I just want to play Bomberman '94, and this unit is givine me nothing but trouble.  :(
#25
The sound dies on the tv set, and the headphone jack. I'll try reflowing the solder again, but I did before, and it still isn't working. Thanks for the advice though!

Hello all.

First off, I'm excited to be a part of this forum. I've been an NEC fan for years, and It's nice to see so many fans in one place.

Anywho, I have a PCE Duo, with (you guessed it) sound problems. EDIT: I'm willing to pay someone to try and repair this. I've reached the conclusion that this is beyond my realm of skills. Please message me or reply here if you're willing to help! Thanks!

I've replaced every single capacitor (even the large ones) on the entire board, and after a few minutes, the sound crackles and fades away.

What could be the cause? All the solder points are good, and I've checked for broken traces. Could it be the OP amps? If so, where would I find replacements?

Any help at all is appreciated!
