10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

That display card set up caught my eye.  I like stuff like that, related to the original marketing campaign for the TG-16.  But yeah that price is too high.

Not as rare perhaps, but did you see that pair of hot pink neon TG-16 video game gloves put up recently?  Those are stylin'

It was everywhere (even showing up in the movie Bloodsport, what a classic).  I played my fair share of it on the NES also.

I don't know why the first game I think of when I hear Data East, is still Karate Champ.

I'm working on Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate right now.  Cool you beat it.  Did you play it on 3ds?

I'm a fan.  Notwithstanding some of the problems that were mentioned already (blind jumps, grinding to get the proper sword, etc.).

Just a note: if you haven't checked it out, which I doubt anyone on here hasn't by now, there is good little discussion of Keith Courage as part of the HuCast Podcast which was done live from MGC this (almost last) year.  Including the problem with the monotony of the level design.

But that part at the end of each overworld where Keith goes into the underworld and embarks in the Nova Suit, I love that shit.  Always will.

I think the bosses are pretty good too.

It gets criticized for being a sub-par pack-in, and that is true.  But in those days and even  now, I tend to think in terms of the entire library or potential or generally how much I think I will like the system itself.  The fact that Keith Courage came with the Turbografx-16 did not affect my decision to buy or not buy.  I remember thinking of pack-ins as sort of freeware/"throwaway" games, so if they were good at all, that was a plus.  I guess you could say I had low expectations starting out.   But that's just my opinion and my recollection of how I thought about pack-ins.

I wish I could think of a better analogy than this right here on the spot, but I can't:

If there is an awesome new car you want to buy, you aren't going to be discouraged from buying it just because you don't like the floormats that come with the car, right?

(or vice versa, really, really awesome floormats aren't going to entice you to buy a particular car over another).

Quote from: mitsuman on 12/05/2014, 10:55 AMReally? Calling me a douchebag? Nice. Apparently internet sarcasm is unapparent to you.

I guess I am just not cut out for this place. Gaming ranks below a lot of other things in my life. Searching on this forum to see if a Korean version of the TG16 post all ready exists ranks even lower.

If anyone wants to buy a Keith Courage box or an Alien Crush box from me, feel free to PM me. I'm done posting on here. Back to lurking.
If you think that Korean Turbografx is dope, I would say you are cut out for this place, despite what you say.

I'm not some long-time veteran or anything, just offering my humble opinion.

Stick around!

(But as was mentioned earlier, just make sure you get your priorities straight brother )

Interesting observation.

I hope you just forgot to mention the PC Engine and the jug of Jim Beam.

That's called "making the best of a bad situation."

Anyway, good luck working that out.  It sounds like they are jerking your chain pretty good at your job.  It seems to me that further you have to go up the management chain at a large agency or corporation, the more sociopathic the people become who you have to deal with.

Sorry if I am not characterizing your field of work correctly, but it sounds like it might be called social work, or social services.  I would definitely expect a large city to have much more opportunity in that field.  Get any kind of job up there for the time being, and then start looking around, there should be a lot of possibilities for you down the road.  And you could easily explain at an interview the reasons why you had to leave your current position.  Just my thoughts on it.

And if it makes any sense, whenever I have some big decision to make, I try to go with what I know inside to be the best choice/what is right, instead of worrying about what the outcome of the choice might or might not be.  Because the future is just too unpredictable to be overly concerned with the outcome side of things.  I'm sure you will figure out what is the best and right thing to do.

I would prefer a solo quest also.  I hope it's good, because it's not easy to find mobile games that are even moderately enjoyable, in my opinion.

Quote from: ApolloBoy on 10/08/2014, 03:34 PMI'm surprised nobody suggested reflowing the solder joints on the controller ports. The TurboTap has a single-sided PCB (meaning all the traces and solder joints are on the bottom of the board), so there's a pretty good chance it's bad solder joints.
Thanks.  I'll give it a shot.

You could be like Nulltard and get a 'real' controller:

O.K. that's a nice setup.  If there was a way I could get away with that at work, I would be all over it.

One thing about Military Madness is that I find it is uniquely well-suited to be played on my phone.  I have an hour train ride back and forth to work.  During that time I've played alot, ALOT, of MM using an emulator app.  The turn-based style allows it to be very playable on a phone touchscreen, as opposed to virtually any other TG16/PCE game I can think of, or have tried on my phone, which really require tactile buttons for it to be enjoyable.

Now I guess there is something you can buy for your phone's touchscreen, like a rubber d-pad that sticks on the screen, or something similar to a "condom" with the buttons molded into it, that you wrap around the entire phone somehow.  I haven't really looked into these at all, but really they don't sound that appealing to me either.

But as far as Military Madness goes, in all honesty that is one game I play almost exclusively on my phone.

Actually, one of my dreams is that an exact conversion of Military Madness would emerge as an app that you could play against others online.  Sorta like this game:

Quote from: OldRover on 08/12/2010, 10:14 AMIt's a well-known Tap problem, actually... some Taps are affected by it, and some aren't. Back when I was collecting, I had one Tap that had it and one that didn't. It seems to stem from the large controller chip inside the Tap going out of sync, and unfortunately it seems to be an unrepairable fatal flaw.
I assume this is correct, but I wanted to revive this thread in case there was any more information to be had.  How common is this malfunction?  Anyone try to correct it and was successful?

I hadn't needed a turbotap for ages, but now I've got some foster kids staying with me and they are all about my Turbografx setup.   So I got a turbotap a while back and found it has this problem.  I've never seen this issue before.

I probably would attempt a fix if there was one out there someone knew about.  With me there is always a chance I will fuck it up, but since a turbotap is one item that is still generally inexpensive and replaceable, I would probably give it a shot.

Man that came out nice.  And I agree those NES buttons on the controller look really cool.

I am raffling off a Turbografx16 box.

There is no Turbografx16 in the box.

In fact, there is nothing in the box.

This is an entirely empty box.

I have had many hours of enjoyment with the box,
looking at the box,
holding the box,
loving the box.

Man, what a box.

This is one hell of a box.

I'll also throw in the console instruction booklet with the box.

--------------------------

Terms:

Anyone can enter, except that I only want to ship it to somewhere in the 48 contiguous states of
the U.S.A.  I'll just slap a shipping label on the side of it and send it out ;)

If there are any entries, I will draw the winner in two weeks (October 4).

So as an outside observer, I can't believe this independence movement made it this far.  Very interesting.

What do you think, are the Scots really going to do this thing and vote yes ?

You know, when us Yanks stuck it to "John Bull" back in '76, all the loyalists were driven up into Canada.  What will become of all those Scots still loyal to the Crown?

And what's England's plan to crush this rebellion, dammit?  Maybe send the heavy cavalry north, have Irish conscripts approach from the southwest, and use a few First-Rate Ships-Of-The-Line to blockade the coast.  That might do it

Man, I wasn't aware of that Goodwill "Grid" store.  That might be the most messed up thing I see all day!  I don't go to Goodwill much.  There is a chain of thrift stores in my area called "Unique" that I prefer.  Not that I find much.  But, the one thing those stores are still great for:  CRT's.  Piles of them to be found in some of those places.  You can still pick up a decent one at a thrift store around here for $5.00 or under.

No-brainers for me are to see Jane's Addiction play the Nothing's Shocking album on Friday.  And then Social Distortion and Primus on Sunday.

Also want to check out Cerebral Ballzy.  Not because I'm familiar with their music.  I'm not.  Just because the name of the band is Cerebral Ballzy.
