10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

roger that. this is my third time trying the turbo out, and each time its the flaky hardware that scares me away. i love the games, just the finicky hardware usually takes all the joy out of playing the system for me. i think i may eventually look into the dreaded emulation route so that i can actually relax knowing my system isnt going to die at any given time. i thought things might be different this time, that if i did the mods myself, i would feel better about if and when something did inevitably break i could fix it myself, but that definitely didnt work out how i had planned.

i literally have no idea how, but just simply trying to do the composite video mod was too much for me on this thing. i have recapped monitors, repaired other electronics, but the solder skills needed for the tiny points to mod this system are just way too much for my shaky hands. i think ill stick to arcade machines at this point.

so chop5 is trying to repair my turbo cd currently, and the issue has been determined to be the one and only part he knows not where to acquire (just my luck!) if anyone knows  of a suitable replacement or has a spare one of these please let me know! here is a link to chop's pic:

the part is the end switch stop to the worm gear laser assembly i believe?
any help much appreciated!

i put the replacement gear KC sent me in my turbo cd, but also could not get the tiny screw on the metal plate to remove like some others ive seen have had issue with, so used straight snips to cut it off as flat as i could. reassembled unit, get plenty of RRRRRRRRRR noise, smacked it one time which made the laser meet its end point which actually got it to spin the cd, but no music still. have also opened the unit while it was chirping away to itself and didnt see the laser moving. any ideas? should i just send this to someone and have them fix it? honestly the process was very annoying to me, this was my first time messing with a cd drive. im used to working on arcade machines and replacing caps and what not, but this was a bit too small for my giant shaky hands.

since it will take too long to scan all of the magazines, do you think you will at least plan on ripping the VHS tapes and posting the videos?
also, one of the nicest collections for any game system i have ever seen. fantastic!

That versus now resides in Seattle WA.
Shipping must have been crazy or did the buyer move out after picking it up? I've still got my two head-to-heads plus 8 other candy...the quest never ends...must ..get...more!

gg on the CDROM pick up! I hope you obey well.
i think it ended up being about $600 to ship yea!
only cab i still have is a konami windy and with the way prices have been going up on candy cabs i think ill be holding on to this one forever. too expensive to regret selling it off later down the road.

Quote from: guest on 01/13/2014, 11:11 AMWelcome aboard and good luck getting a Turbo CD; alternatively, get a PCE Duo and probably save some monies.

P.S.  -  Per the forum rules, "jap" is unacceptable.  Use JP, PCE, or type it in full.
yea i am not completely opposed to getting a PCE duo, just was kind of more interested in the turbo CD rig more than anything because of it being more difficult.. im looking at it as a challenge kind of.
also, edited first post to JP. thanks!

been on game forums as a trader for 15 years now, i know the protocol. thanks!

hey guys,
new member here and glad to finally be on here!
i have owned multiple tg-16 units and 2 PCE duos throughout my years collecting, and have always ended up ditching them for fear of how unreliable the hardware can be. that ends now, as i have come across another tg-16 and plan to go all out modding it and bringing it into the modern age since i now have the expensive tools necessary to feel safe soldering it all up! this will be my permanent system for my collection, and damn do i miss my copies of lords and gate of thunder, and bloody and crest of wolf.
like i said i want to go all out on this console, so here are the things i am looking for, they dont necessarily need to be for trade, a lot of the parts and components i am willing to pay out right for:
"obey" region chip
rgb mod chip (otherwise i will build my own circuit, had just seen some prebuilt available but sold out)
a metal or sturdy plastic cd gear
a new laser lens
a cap kit for a tg-16 (otherwise i will source caps individually)
a turbo dock
a turbo cd drive
a system 3.0 or arcade card (region does not matter if i can get ahold of a obey chip)

i already have the console, and a turbo tap that is rewired to route JP controllers for use with a US tg-16 so if i can track all of this down i will be good to go with my franken-turbo!

for offer as far as trade towards the turbo dock and cd player i have a near mint to mint copy of Snatcher for sega cd
also *possibly* a complete near mint/mint copy of PDS for sega saturn

sorry for the long winded post. and for anyone wondering, i do plan to stick around, have considered joining this forum for years and am glad to now be a part of it. i have been a member of neo-geo.com for 10 years now, with many pages of feedback to vouch for myself as a buyer/trader/seller. also, Munchiaz and jibbajabba (not sure of there names here) will also vouch for me.
lets get this project rolling!
thanks guys!
