I would also put chiki chiki boys for the Super CD

I have been wanting to get some people to do a translation with me.  I would even be willing to help the programmers out by lending them my copies of the pc98 editions and pc engine versions to them.  Although I have no idea how to get a team together to do such a project.

I just finished watching your video about the PC8801, and it was a real treat~ Always curious to learn more information about NECs older PCs and with information being hard to find at times due to its age now, however, I think you did a great job showcasing it.  Much appreciated

Quote from: Digi.k on 07/12/2017, 12:39 PMNot sure if I've posted some of these already *thanks to Photobucket* but been craving saturn gaming again lately.

That Falcom Classics II has to return back to the ebay seller as they auctioned it as VGC 8/10 and when I pop it in the saturn it doesn't load.  Turns out there is the crack in the game disc.

/zsasTWn.jpg

EDIT

Also had craving to see and HEAR Falcom games on the Saturn. That Hudson Soft and Falcom collaberation; Eiyuu Densetsu III - Shiroki Majo ie Legend of Heroes III White Witch don't disappoint in the audio..
I have been meaning to get that lunar school for the saturn for a long while, but haven't gotten around to it.  Nice saturn stuff you got dude  8)

I would also recommend Star Parodier for you can play as the system on your system haha. Also for it being hilariously fun.

Quote from: guest on 05/08/2016, 03:17 AMRegarding Audio CDs, you guys are so right. For a decade now, I'm trying to gather 2nd hand CDs of music I like, and even some new releases get cheap within months.

If an album gets re-released in re-mastered form, I usually try to get the original vintage release instead. Blame it on the fear of loudness war.

Also, I sometimes treat me to some used vinyl records, but that's only for fun. They need to be so dirt cheap that I don't care if one of the purchases begins to skip on my record player setup.

Edit: Regarding the Saturn, mhm... On the one hand, this is a console I'd like to get my hands on, because the hardware appearance looks pretty nice, and there are some exclusive titles I'd like to play. On the other hand, I already own some multiplatform titles like Konami's shooters for the PS1, so there's no real need for me to get into Saturn gaming.

I got Radiant Silvergun for Xbox 360. Honestly, I suck hard at this game and lost interest soon, so it is good that I paid just a few bucks for it.
I can see what ya mean in that case.  I would definitely emulate it first just to see if it is up your alley.

Here are some saturn exclusive stuff that you could at least try out and see if you like it.  Legend of the Oasis/The story of Thor 2, Astal, Tryrush Deppy, Super Tempo, ninpen manmaru, linkle liver story, nanatsu kaze no shima monogatari, Shinrei Jusatsushi Taroumaru, crows, groove on fight, soukou seitokai.  These are a few games that never got ported or put to anything else.  I could have mentioned some others, but they have been on other platforms such as the fighters, and some of the taito games like liquid kids/mizubaku daibouken.

Quote from: EmperorIng on 05/05/2016, 02:09 PMThe Sega Saturn is one of those consoles I now semi- discourage people from getting into. While price is definitely a factor, I think on one hand you have arcade ports that can just as easily be emulated in MAME or were ported to the PS1; and on the other, you have weird exclusives that, with a couple of shining exceptions (but not the SAT Shining games, all of those suck), don't stand up to Sega exclusives on the Genesis and Dreamcast.

I've sold a large portion of my collection over the years, because there are only so many early, ugly 3D games you can stomach, only so many mediocre Working Designs titles you can suffer through*, and unless you've got a crowd of friends, those fighting games aren't doing you any favors by themselves. There's obviously good games on the console, but this is a case where you can literally afford to be picky.

Quote from: guest on 05/05/2016, 03:56 AMI like when auctions have a BIN that goes away if bidding starts, and you get fucknuts that see a sane BIN, go "im going to try getting it cheap!"

... and then contribute to the bid war that shoots it up 20-30$ more than the BIN.... while more are listed with the cheaper BIN price.
I try to psychologically exploit this in bidders when I list auctions on ebay. I gotta make money and it ain't my fault that people can't control themselves.  8)

*sans Dragon Force. The ONLY good WD release on the Saturn.
You're saying that the Saturn is only good for (now) dated 3D and stuff you can get in MAME? Is that actually what you are saying?

Because that's kinda fuct. That's the sort of joke someone would base a fake Twitter account on to crank "humor" out of every day.
I agree with Zeta.  There are so many fantastic 2D games on the saturn.  Astal is one of those games that I love dearly because of its atmosphere and just the surrealness.  There are also a lot of arcade ports that definitely play better on the saturn than the PS1.  Such as the Xmen games, capcom games, and such.  There are only certain exceptions such as the donpachi and dodonpachi, and kaitei daisensou/in the hunt are the ones that play better on the PS1.  When you play most of the arcade ports on the saturn you definitely notice a significant difference because of the power of the 1meg and the 4meg ram carts.  It was very much a mini arcade machine in it of itself.  While it may be hard to collect for now, but they have a great repertoire of hilariously great games on the system.

Quote from: BigusSchmuck on 04/08/2016, 11:24 AMDidn't realize Bubble Symphony was for the Saturn. Man is it really worth $80? Hmmm
It is a very good game, and there is even a code to put the whole game in english, but I don't think so.  I think of the price I paid for it, and think that should be just around the ballpark of what the game should cost.  That being 35, I think its not fair that these ving titles are getting out of hand.

I have yet to get one of these xrgb units, but I am glad to hear that the framemeister is getting some vga cable for it.  That is quite some great news.

Quote from: Digi.k on 03/16/2016, 01:55 PMI should have grabbed the following back before 2006 just when I went all xbox 360..

Metal Black
Winning Post - USA
Final Fight Revenge
Elevator Action Returns
Deep Fear - UK/EU
Keio Flying Squadron 2 - EU/EU

I used to have Shinrei Jusatsushi Taromaru which I sold before youtube existed but I don't regret selling it.

This all my Sega Saturn games they retired and stored away in a box as the only time and money i have nowadays for retro gaming is for the pce.
You now mentioned metal black and come to think of it anything that was made by "Ving" has definitely gone up since I bought my Ving set.  Bubble Symphony has gone up like 2 fold since I purchased it a few years back, elevator action returns I think now has even surpassed mizubaku daibouken and mizubaku is actually harder to find imo.  Metal black and nightstriker s have also been going on a climb.  Even the XING games have gone up especially PuLiRuLa which is weird because it was like the cheapest xing title to get.

If you like Tales of style like games and sgt frog there is a game called Keroro RPG: Kishi to Musha to Densetsu no Kaizoku.  It is super fun and plays very similarly to like hearts or destiny ps2

@Medic_wheat while it was similar to the things such as x68k and other things of that nature.  NEC also produced their line of computers.  Their first one being the NEC PC88 and then this one being the NEC PC 98. It was to a lot of eroge visual novels that have been featured on both the pc engine and the saturn.  Things like Dead of the Brain, Steam Hearts, Yu-NO, Desire, Eve Burst Error and things of that nature.  It was their 16/32 bit computer and had quite the color palette to really bring the characters to life.  Here is a picture from eve burst error(http://www.mobygames.com/images/shots/l/473043-eve-burst-error-pc-98-screenshot-wow-looking-stylish-marina.gif).  Depending on the model they will either have 3.5 inch floppy drives, or the 5.2.  This is an important note because some of the games are in different types of floppy formats, so that is also something to take into consideration.  For example, Dead of the Brain 1 is on 3.5 inch floppy while the 2nd game is on 5.2 in.  That is about the extent of my knowledge.

While I may not know the entire library of this computer in particular, however, PunkCryborg will be able to possibly elaborate on the specs moreso than I could.

Funny enough I thought the game was Gain Ground, and then see it was Gradius II and was like well dammit haha

Wow I never knew there was a Samsung 3d controller for the Saturn.  Also you do make a good point of it being white like the Japanese white saturn than Black as the real Samsung Saturn is.  That is really cool, and thanks for sharing :)

Am I the only one that thinks the DE II and Bonk 3 manuals in here look like printouts?
Naw man they are definitely print outs because you can clearly see dungeon explorer II is missing a portion of its super cd logo.  Also seemed as though he was running out of color because its black on the left side, and more purple on the right.  Bonk I want to say is also, but for some reason I can't put my finger as to why, but gives me bad vibes.

Quote from: vacantplanets on 10/22/2015, 04:13 PM8-[ Okay. Before I edit my post, I want to figure out what I can say. I swear I'm not testing you, but I can't have any links to theisozone.com at all? Not to the separate forum section for example? Can I at least say that it can be found there without posting any links? Can someone help me out here?
Don't link to sites like isozone at all.  Their sole purpose is to distribute roms and isos, and Aaron doesn't want PCEFX associated with such sites.

It's really not that hard to use Google.  The intended page is literally the first result when searching for "blast wind sega saturn corrected music".
Okay. I removed the links.

It's a shame that this exact method can't be used with HuCards. I wonder if someone will eventually find a way to increase the volume of the music in those games.

I just tried this with the Gradius and the Salamander Deluxe Packs for Saturn and it wasn't able to extract all of the audio files. Possibly because there are multiple games--it's put together differently? Must be inside the data track like NightWolve said. Sophisticated hacking doesn't sound easy.
I remember there was a user here on the forums who has been making hu cards along with the chips n stuff for some of the games.  I can't remember his name right now, however, it was pretty impressive to see that he was able to do such a thing.  He was french if I can recall...or some kind of european.

This is really cool, however, I am curious since you are doing pc engine, and with the discovery of the saturn(which are my 2 fav systems) could you do this on other systems as well?  Like the sega cd, playstation 1 of sorts.  Now, I am quite fascinated by this

You know whats funny I was actually going to try and win this game and do a raffle because I thought the game was still cheap, however, when I saw that listing...I myself was like how did the pc engine ver reach about almost the price of the saturn ver.  Although the saturn version is more expensive, and harder to find, but I used to see the pc engine ver sell for dirt cheap back then.  I am guessing people are buying the pc engine ver because it is cheaper, but it is still very weird to see this happen to this version in particular

if price is not an issue I would recommend
Tenchi wo kurau(sequel was on both ps1 and SAT)
horror story

games that are still easy to obtain for a better price I would recommend
~L Dis
~hihou densetsu chris no bouken
~bikkuriman world for the hu card
~Seiya Monogatariwhile japanese is heavy, but there is a guide and one of the users "SamIAm" is also doing a translation is (one of the best looking rpgs for the Super CDrom)
~shockman 3
bonanza bros

This is just to name a few

The cdrom 2 game known as "daijiten" is not an english friendly game.  It definitely requires japanese knowledge and it is a quiz game.  Sorry for the recommendation, but the hu card game is a platformer, and that is very english friendly.

If it wasn't for this game and hearing about it in the early 2000s I would have never learned about the pc engine.  It was the game that really made me appreciate what the pc engine is also about.  The great colors, gameplay, games that could be put on cards, and overall a fantastic system that I wish I would have learned when I was a kid and not a teenager :)

also I really liked genpei toumaden as well, even though it was quite brutal.  Wonder Momo though while not the best, but not the worst either.

Quote from: guest on 10/11/2015, 05:09 PMI don't think that the registration cards say PCEWorks on them. I believe that someone on eBay was asking something like $100 for one.

As I've said before, we have every reason to believe that he made large batches of unbranded Sylphia/Renny Blaster/Fausette Amour/Kaze Kiri either before, after or at the same time as the PCEWorks branded copies.

esteban's comment above shows how effective the branded copies we know about would be at passing off unbranded ones. We've also since seen 6 copies of Renny Blaster up at a time on eBay since the PCEWorks copies came to light. Before that, there was only one ir two a year. Unfortunately, a trend among mega sellers also started around the same time: only showing one or two low quality photos of games they are asking $100+ for.
Thanks for a lot of clarification, and for also making a guide to spot an original and a fake :) Although now you do mention it there have been an increase of renny blaster.  Although never been a game that has interested me, however, it did raise question as to why there were more copies floating around.  Although another very unfortunate thing that I have also been noticing is that people have been posting Tobias' ver of sylphia, renny blaster, kazekiri n such on yahoo auctions.
#43
@blacktiger and @NECROMANCER thanks for clarifying that...and now that makes me even more mad! He truly is the worst of the worst.  Now, because of his works do you think it will be harder to get some of the super cd games.  Like, kazekiri, sylphia, fausette armour, and things of that nature for those who are trying to get the original cds, and not the tobias ver.  Yeah there was a website that mentioned how to find a fake and a real sapphire, but what do you guys think

Quote from: guest on 09/01/2015, 02:40 PMYes, that would be fantastic! You might want to send a sample first so I can make sure they're gonna be OK. They need to be 300dpi. If your printer has a descreen option then turn it on. If it doesn't, can you scan at 600dpi? Might be best to try a scan of a cover rather than a spine as it's easier to check quality - also, if you crop them down, please try not to chop off anything.

I have a bunch of outstanding files still to add, so I can confirm what I need later.
Sorry I haven't gotten back to ya.  I did a test run with my scanner, and the quality is just absolutely poopy.  I can't really see where to change the settings on it either, so I am wondering if there is a way I can send it to you or a forum member to have them scan it for ya if you would like :)
