10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Hi guys, I bought a junk Japanese Turbo Duo, it arrived DOA as expected.  So far I have completed a cap kit and resoldered one of the trim pots on the main board which got connected. Still no power.

The fuse and big diode on the side are fine, the 7805's are outputting 5V.  Question:  the AC adaptor  connects to the jack, and then goes through a small coil on the power board, tgen out comes a black, red, and brown wire.  What voltage is the brown wire supposed to be at, because I read zero VDC?

Any other ideas where to look would be helpful, there's no other visible trace problems or scorched components or pins that I can see yet.  Thanks guys!

I dunno, can anyone confirm?

Quote from: vacantrain on 10/25/2015, 12:15 AMHey guys I have a bare TG-16 in shoddy shape, so I'm trying to use it for a project.  The power adaptor is 10.5V, but can it be powered from the +5V pin and ground from the expansion port directly?  If so that would be MUCH easier for me.
What are you planing to do?  Make an arcade system out of it?
Yeah, that's the plan. :)

Using an online calculator, I can use a 1 watt 1.2ohm resistor on the 12v rail to get the 10.5v it would get from the power connector, but that's a very stupid way to do it if the system will run off of 5V, the 5V rail on JAMMA cabs have better amperage available and this would be less wasteful.

Also it might have a 3 digit number on it, if anyone could post that I could figure out the value, none of the pics online are high enough resolution so I could read it.

Hi guys, I just bought a broken Turbo Duo from ebay.  The case is mint, so I really want to fix this one because I have not owned a Duo in like a decade.  I'm pretty handy at repair and it looks like the audio caps leaked, and someone screwed up the cap replacement, which is what the ebay auction said.

I noticed tho that R633 (which is the small surface mount resistor next to C311 to the right of the two heatsyncs) is missing on my duo and was sloppily jumpered with a sliver of wire.  Does anyone know the proper value I could replace it with?  Help greatly appreciated!
