I wish they would somehow include Tenchu: Return From Darkness on the original Xbox bc list.
That game was awesome (including two xbox only levels) but really suffered from the lack of dual shoulder buttons.  That made aiming the grappling hook a bit tricky.

Good to see Breakdown on the list!

Lol!
That used to freak me out if I accessed the home page late at night.

Quote from: seieienbu on 04/18/2018, 02:19 PMI think the best thing I ever purchased at Toys R Us would be from a clearance table they had in what was probably 2001.  I got 4 copies of Castlevania Bloodlines (the Majesco reprint cardboard not the original in the plastic case) for less than $3 each.  I gave away 3 of them over the years and opened up the last one with  my girlfriend right when I started dating as she was a Sega kid but hadn't ever played any Castlevania games before.
I remember that point in time (as well as 2002 / 2003 when the Dreamcast was killed off).  I picked up several copies of Shenmue, Seaman, VMU's and a few other titles for literally $2.97 each.

This year is different, and thankfully so.

I was wondering about how it ran/performed in comparison to say the X360 version.

How are the load times?  Frame rate issues?  Any weird lagging or stuff like that?

I dabbled in Neo Geo stuff back in the day.
In most cases, I always had a sense of regret right after I opened the shipping container to my latest acquisition.

I only have Amazon Prime for streaming, but I've been going through all the classic James Bond films.

That and binging on the entire ST: The Next Generation series from the beginning

Fixed that for ya.

Oddly enough this technology had been around for a while.  It was first used to mixed microdoses of drugs, and then later adapted to cocktails, on limited bases, before the adaptation by Coke.
Yeah, I get that.
But we're dealing with soft drinks here...fizzy water and syrup at establishments where speed is paramount.  When I'm dining out, I don't want to wait in line to pour my drink while Grandma Gertrude is up there befuddled by the numerous touchscreen choices.

I think what initially sold me on the Xbox (and later then Xbox 360) were the PGR games.
They truly did showcase what the hardware was capable of as far as launch titles were concerned...you certainly couldn't achieve the graphics and effects on previous hardware.

I personally thought PGR4 was a great game.  Just didn't expect the franchise to sputter out at what was arguably a high point.
#16
I may be up for one of these for $5

ANy left?

My beef with the freestyle machines is that it takes a longer amount of time to accomplish something simple.

Ie: normal fountain drink dispenser units are simple.  Take you cup, place under appropriate nozzle, and either touch the button and/or push the level with your cup to make the drink flow.  Simple.  Easy.  Even a chimpanzee can do it.

These Freestyle machines are just overkill in every respect.  99% of the time people will gravitate to the basic 5 drink choices.  Very rarely do I see anyone add in the various fruit /etc flavorings.

Get a family of 5 or an elderly person up there and it simple compounds the issue even more.

It's like they created a solution for a problem that really didn't need fixing.

I was rummaging through my old Xbox and Xbox 360 collection over the weekend.
I happened upon all 4 of the PGR games.

What happened to this most excellent series?  It just sort of fizzled out after PGR4, which in itself was a good improvement over the launch day showcase that was PGR 3

I know Forza is now the flagship racing franchise on the Xbox plaftform, but it just seems odd that a series known for its quality and attention to detail just sort of fizzled out without warning.
Same thing happened to that awesome NFL FEVER series as well.

Quote from: TDIRunner on 09/25/2017, 10:46 AMThe only rule we had was with the original NES which was no games on school nights.  My parents  enforced that rule to the point of packing the NES back into its original box during the week and we got it back out on Friday after school.
Sounds like how things went in my household.
Gaming privileges were golden...as long as you behaved and did well in school, we were allowed to play the NES on weekends and occasionally during the week.

Ok, let me know how you make out in Japan.

I have a Japanese Dreamcast console (one of the first run units with the heavy shielding) with controller, VMU and hookups plus a small assortment of rather common games.  The system has no paperwork or box.  The games are mostly complete.  Just looking to thin out my closet a bit.

Anyone looking for something like this before I go and start listing the specifics?

Back in the day when I was on a Neo Geo kick, I distinctly remember buying a bundle of common AES carts for a good price.  I could smell the stench of stale cigarette smoke even before I opened the shipping carton...goddamn, nothing I did could remove the putrid smell of smoke from the cases, carts and manuals.

I later ended up selling that bundle at a slight loss just to get the damn things out of my sight.

Glitter.

That stuff gets everywhere.  Most decorations and greeting cards come encrusted in glitter and there's no way to avoid getting that crap all over your hands, clothes and desk.

Check out Super Hydlide.

While the game is a personal favorite of mine (and yes, I am aware of its Japanese PC origins) but goddamn...at first glance it is absolutely horrid.
Just a random mixture of greens, browns and orange for the various landscapes.  And then microscopic characters and choppy animation.

I grew to love it due to the weight system and day/night cycles, but I was sorely disappointed at this 16 bit effort back in the day.

I'm really not a fan of those new fangled laundry detergent 'pods'
They're usually more expensive, require more than one, and sometimes have problems dissolving properly.

Liquid or regular powder for the win

Back in my day, didn't they stock shelves at night?

Those SOB's at Walmart!
I went to pick up my pre-ordered Switch today.
Upon showing my receipt, the associate had a nervous expression in his face.  After checking with his colleagues, they informed me that a mistake was made and that all Switch systems were gone.

They refunded my pre-purchase amount and added a $25 gift card, but that royally sucks!

Are they that expensive now?
I think even the worst Nuon controllers cost at least $50 now and the better ones are all over $100.

...worth it for Merlin Racing.  Or on a more serious note, Shin Chan, if anyone ever found it.
I don't think Shin Chan is playable on anything besides the Korean version of the Nuon 501
I believe it was region locked.

Quote from: in99flames on 02/10/2017, 11:53 AMI do have t2k for jag cd....ive heard that people do seem to like t2k over t3k. Kind of funny. Ill try some remotes. Ill need a logitech controller at some point. :-P
Trust me on this, the remote is NOT a valid option for playing games on the Nuon.

Funny thing is...back in 2002 after the NUON had failed as a format, there was a website called www.dvdinteractive.com that had a fire sale on controllers and games.  Literally $5.00 a piece for the controllers (the 2 non-Logitech versions as well as the Logitech).  Games were, I believe, in the $10 to $15 range.

I scooped up a bunch of spares, but have since ebayed them years ago.

Those were the days...the early 2000's held such promise.  What a great era to be alive.

I was big into the NUON scene back in the early 2000's.
Twas my first DVD player.

Tempest 3000 was a big letdown compared to the TK2000 on Atari Jaguar...such blurry visuals and inconsistent frame rate.

Merlin Racing though, was a wonderful and fun surprise.  Loved the quest mode.

* Dead or alive 3 (original print - non greatest hits)
* Dead or Alive Ultimate (still sealed / brand new)

I remember that lab photo fondly as well!

Wesker was the 32 bit equivalent of the 'most interesting man in the world' -- been everywhere, seen everything and done everything from killing zombies to being part of an elite scientific research facility team.

I wouldn't be surprised if his was motto was "Stay thirsty, my friends"

Seeing some of these awesome graphical tricks (scaling, wavy patterns, etc) brings me back.

But that begs the question...why WAS the background scrolling so damn choppy in YS III?  And in YS Book 2 if you recall the choppy parallax background when you're racing towards the bell.

Walked into Wal-Mart today, which is a rarity for me.
Whilst browsing the aisles I saw a cardboard display to "Reserve your Nintendo Switch!!" in the gaming section.

I asked the sales drone if they had stopped taking pre-orders, and he said, "why no...today is the last day. Go to the service desk to put down your 10% deposit".

So after all was said and done, I've ended up with a Switch on pre-order.
Still debating if I truly want it, but what the hell!
