Update: Sold for $61. Thank you all again!

Thanks for the support gents. I just don't want to rip anyone off you know? That's one of the reasons I am thankful for the e-mails and help from everyone here. It's hard to get an honest deal on E-Bay as it is without having someone try to gouge you on top of it. Thanks again everyone, I'll let you know how it goes.

I did edit the description, but apparently it didn't show up. I did it again, and it seems to be working this time. Thanks again.

I left the auction up, but edited the description a bit. Keranu: thanks for the advice, I appreciate everyones quick and honest answers. Unfortunately, I can't pull it with 24 hours or less to go I think.
Please check and let me know.
Thanks again everyone.

Hey fellas, I know it's been awhile. I have a huge problem. I am selling my copy of Sapphire on E-Bay right now http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=8291894524&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMESE%3AIT&rd=1
and I have been told its a fake. Apparently I got ripped when I bought it. I thought I had done all the checks correctly, but in light of the new information posted, I'm still confused.
My copy is still as yet unopened, so I have no way to tell the markings on the disc itself, and while the pull tab and some of the coloration are consistant with what is a fake, the spinecard is cut and looks identical to the original one.
So I don't want to rip anyone off. I need money towards a new (to me) car,
but I am definitely not trying to cheat anyone. I started the bidding at 50 bucks, which I think is fair. It's about the price of a new game...

Anyhow, my bitching aside, do you think I should pull the auction? please let me know ASAP.
Thanks in advance,
M.

BULLSEYE has once again returned to E-Bay under a different name. They now call themselves Game Colector Heaven. PLEASE, don't let anyone you know buy from these guys. They are un-trustworthy and price gouge. :!:
#7
Great find! Congrats. Price isn't too horrible either considering that an RC car battery pack that is comparable runs about $50.
#8
The company with that link no longer makes that battery-pack, unfortunately.
I'll try to find another viable alternative. Thanks for the replies everyone!

Can I use a PC CD-Rom drive to replace a Duo drive? I was wondering if there is anything special about the cd rom drives themselves or not?
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

OK Everyone, here's the scoop: I have a Turbo Express that I purchased knowing that it needed the sound fix applied.

Turns out that the previous owner had taken to powering it with an unapproved power supply

Hence the problem that I have come across. I have searched and searched both here and on other forums, and I haven't been able to find a reason for the LCD needing extra power.

The answer I have come up with after a FULL tear-down and rebuild of the Turbo Express is this:

Symptoms:

Unit powers on, sound works as normal, but screen is just a "fuzzy" purplish-black color! No amount of adjustment of the contrast control will
affect the screen brightness/contrast at all.
Which brings me back to a previously mentioned point:
The previous owner had taken to powering it with an UNAPPROVED POWER SUPPLY!!

Now the unit works perfectly fine on battery power and the standard APPROVED power supply, BUT___only AFTER powering up with 12V.

I am presently trying to track down the culprit of this issue with my magical multi-meter ;)
I'm fairly sure that there is some sort of rectifier circuit that probably needs a bit of attention. I will be devoting that attention to it as soon as time permits.  If anyone has any more insight that they would  like to share, please do!

Until then, I hope that this was at least somewhat useful.

Yeah it is, although I burned a copy of it so I don't thrash my pride and joy :)

Oh, a quick question, has anyone seen those orange colored "skins" that are supposed to be optically transparent that protect your CD's from getting scratched? If so, what are your thoughts/experience with them?

Yeah, actually I got all of them previously while acquiring games for my TG16 CD and base TG16 system.

I will actually probably be selling my CD system(TG16) soon now that I have a Duo.

I am so absolutely ecstatic right now!! WOOOOOHOOOO!!!!!

Ok, I finally got a Duo. I can not believe how much it ran though...
I suppose I did alright though, $230. for the system with connections and
a working original power cable. I'm happy with it. Oh yeah, it even came
with the original box and documentation.

I'm currently am enjoying Super Raiden.
If anyone has any recommendations for some sweet Duo games, I'm all ears :)

Not too sure if greasing the tracks will help, but if anyone wants, I have the tools to do it if you are unsure about it. All that is required is some lubricant that is suitable for electronics that comes with a "needle" tip applicator. These can be found cheaply at Radio Crap or any high-end electronics store.

I'd love to try my idea with a PC-FX shell. Don't have one presently though.
I appreciate the Ideas though, keep coming with the suggestions! I will definitely take pictures as I progress. Also thanks for letting me know about the turbotap thing, I wonder why that would mess up a game though...
Thank you all for your comments.

Thanks for the info Steve, I am going to keep looking for one! Hopefully it won't be as long as you waited for them...
I'll keep you posted on the progress of the hunt!

QuoteUnless you are a top notch gifted indidual with exceptional electronic skills. Modding systems is kinds dangerous because they are getting more expensive.

I do have a BA in Electronics Engineering, but I fully agree with you that they are becoming more scarce and pricey. I suppose the purpose of asking for opinions and input, was to see what everyone (or a majority) would like to see. I think that just because a system is old doesn't mean it has to look it :)
This was just a way of trying to contribute to the Turbo community in the only small way I know how.

Ok guys...
Come on! 20 views and no ideas or comments?

Are these just impossible to find or what? Does anybody have one that they can take Hi-res pictures of? If it is possible I can make one myself with enough information about number of conductors and connector types.

Thanks in advance,
M.

Hey everyone :)
I have been thinking lately about all the hype with HTPC's(Home theater Pc)
After looking at some of the cases, they seem to provide a world of possibilities.
I know that some will probably hate my idea since the finished product won't be visually recognizable as an NEC unit, but here goes:

I wanted to take a slim-line htpc case and stuff the guts of a TG-16 and CD
unit inside of it along with modding it to output S-Video/RGB/Composite, and
of course the region mod. Another possibility was a small Vacuum-Flourescent LCD with a stand-alone programmable controller to provide a high tech looking display that would denote if the HuCard or CD was being used in an alpha-numeric fashion as well as fan speed and voltage.
Next was gutting the CD unit itself and transforming it to a newer slide out type as seen with the original PS2.
Next on the list was taking a turbo tap and trying to seamlessly (I hope) incorporate it into the front panel. Here I am presented with another option, which is whether or not to convert the pinouts to a PC Engine type.
If this is done, then controllers are still easily available as well as the use of japanese accessories and the new classics converter they now have at TZD.

I would really appreciate any thoughts and input on this. I plan to start the project in the next 2-3 weeks when I get the time.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: TG-CD power supply
03/10/2006, 02:47 AM
I had kinda figured that. It's unfortunate really. Thank you for the reply though. I am actually lucky enough to own 2 Turbo Grafx 16's though so your approach might not be a bad idea.(Only one of them is the TG16-CD though)
Just out of curiosity what would be a decent asking price? I have the hard case and system 2.0 (US) HuCard as well as a controller. Thanks.
#28
They apparently don't carry them anymore :(
I also tried contacting NEC and they basically said good luck finding something suitable because they regrettably don't support the Turbo systems anymore. So...the hunt continues.
If you or anyone have other options for me let me know, since so far BullsEye ( Eck! ) seems like about it.

Buy/Sell/Trade / WTB: TG-CD power supply
03/09/2006, 08:22 PM
I need the power supply for a Turbo Grafx CD. It is 110v 60hz 28w input, and 11v 1.35ma output.
If any of you have one available, please let me know.
Thank you in advance.

So I'm new to this forum, but not to the Turbo/PCE world. First I'd like to say thank you to the members of this community for doing a big part to keep the NEC systems alive! Secondly I was wondering, how can these E-Bay company's like BullsEye Collectibles charge such exhorbitant prices for their Turbo/PCE gear? Some of it is understandable I suppose, but even though the power supply I need for my TG-CD is worth $35. I know it doesn't cost $25 to SHIP!!!
I'm sorry for the rant here, but are these price-hikes really justified? Especially since they also do things like sell you a system and then charge EXTRA for a power supply? Or one controller? Seems kinda shady. Just my .02
