12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

I bought my TurboGrafx-16 off eBay back in 1999. It was one of the first things I got there, and it cost $25. This was well before eBay mandated photos for every auction, so I had no idea what I was getting. The console and the AC adapter were stained by what was probably paint (though I initially thought someone had thrown up on it), and the controller's connectors would fall out of the cable if you pulled it too hard. I should have complained to the seller, but I was too happy playing Ninja Spirit and Keith Courage on my very own TurboGrafx.

I still have the system, with a new controller. The RF switch that came with it conked out, but I can use a Nintendo one.

I picked up a copy of Tengai Makyo Kabuki-Den last year. It didn't have the instructions, but it had something unexpected in the second CD tray.

It's a Shogakukan demo for the game. I hunted around for information on it, but I wasn't able to find out much.

I'll probably sell off my copy of Kabuki-Den, and that includes the demo. It was easy to find out how much Kabuki-den is worth (it seems to the PC Engine equivalent of a Sega Genesis sports game), but I'm not sure about the demo. I did turn up some very old threads in which people were looking for it, so I figured I'd post about it here.

The Aquario restoration is apparently now stymied by problems with the sound data and the fact that the composer and Westone's former CEO aren't talking to each other.

And that's a shame. Aquario is at the top of the list of unreleased games I'd way to play (and buy).

Tenshi no Uta is notable for being one of Kenichi Nishi's first games. He went on to found the studio Love-de-Lic and make intriguingly weird games like Moon: Remix RPG Adventure, L.O.L.: Lack of Love, Captain Rainbow, and Chibi-Robo.

Also, Tenshi's ending is such a delightful downer.

Yeah, the never-was SuperGrafx version of Strider inspired all sorts of stories, including one about background pandas and teddy bears being tributes to a dead programmer.

Turns out it was just as much a fragile rumor as the SuperGrafx port itself.
