Keep it away from excessive heat and sunlight 👍 or a Matt clearcoat (keeps it sealed so the bromide in the plastic isn't affected by said light and heat). Without clearcoating it it will probably need doing again but not for a few years, not much you can do really as its part of the chemical makeup in the plastic.

Twin Fami. Arrived today from Fukuoka. Needs a good clean but other than that it's in pretty good shape.
Will have to check the drive belt later to see how much has melted away  :D

Thanks Elmer, I was surprised at how well it came out actually and how quick it was. The super famicom took days......but it was in even worse condition and had no sunlight, just the uv tubes. I would say the uv is good if you have no sun and plenty of patience, it also doesn't dry out the peroxide as much but you still have to keep a close eye on it and not leave it for a whole day while at work like i did  :( just aswell I have another 3 in the cupboard!

Photo taken 5 mins ago, doesn't seem that bad.  Possibly just an effect of the process still working in the other pic, it keeps going for a while after apparently.

No the plastic wrap didn't leave any marks. The SFC was overcooked, left it far too long and some of the peroxide dried, bleaching the plastic, the pc-fx doesn't look like that at all.   I'm looking at it now and it looks fine, no marks at all. Maybe just the lighting or poor quality phone camera :).

As some of you know I purchased a very yellow pc-fx from Japan a wee while ago. It arrived a couple of weeks ago and I have to say, it wasn't as bad as I had feared. Back plate and sides were perfect, maybe a very very slight bromide tan but not really noticeable, the front and top plate with the cd tray however was a completely different story, totally sun ravaged and yellower than a bumblebees behind.

So, a trip to the hairdresser was required, 1 small bottle of the finest, cheapest cream peroxide I could find (40 vol 12%, no reactive ingredients so perfect and only £1.70)
I figured I wouldn't get enough sun to complete the process so I created my own "un-tanning booth" a cardboard box internally lined with foil wrap and 2 UV cold cathode tubes.

Taking apart the pcfx shell was the easiest console I've ever done. 4 screws and everything just unclips. I took the front & top plates and using a small paintbrush, pasted the peroxide straight on giving everything a good coat and getting in all the little crooks and crannies. Covered in cling film (to keep the peroxide from drying out and blooming the plastic) and placed in the box for a couple of hours.

It was working, but at a very slow pace. Then a miracle occurred! The sun came out! Rushed outside and placed the pieces on the wall in the garden, making sure all sides got a nice even untan and lo and behold, one beautiful grey pc-fx. It's not quite right and still has a very slight tinge but it's good enough for now.

Haha it's done Necromancer, just in the process of uploading some photos in the pc-fx forum. I couldn't get that many as we had a few hours of sunshine one day so had a very small window of opportunity.  O:)

What did I buy today? Erm way too much! Well my pc-fx arrived looking as yellow as a cowardly banana dipped in mustard so some h2o2 was purchased to rectify that. I got a wee bonus from work so went on a yahoo jp spree. 2x super famicom, one came boxed and with 6 games, sci & atomic robo kid for pc engine, some pico fuses and a new power socket for one of the previously mentioned sfc. kirby adventure for famicom along with Tetris, and a few others and a beautiful, red Sharp twin famicom.  :D (which will probably need a new belt).

PC-FX Discussion / Re: Pc-fx pad cost

Haha thanks Elmer.  Showing my age with that one eh?    Yeah, Alan Grant is a legend, we're having our first ever comic con in my hometown and he's guest of honour! Although he's probably more famous for his work with DC & Batman across the pond.

I ended up getting the ebay one so at least I can play some games when my pc-fx arrives, (after a course of yellow removal ;) )

I never said I wasn't willing to pay it! (It was the boxed one I was looking at) More that I wanted to check I wasn't being fleeced, just never trust eBay. I don't buy from there now if I can help it as prices always seem to be over inflated.
But thanks for the help. (Don't think I'm spoiled by the price of the console, I'm perfectly aware of the usual cost of them, that's why i held off on getting one for so long  [-(  )

PC-FX Discussion / Pc-fx pad cost
02/28/2015, 12:46 PM
I was just wondering if anyone knew the average price of a joypad for the pc-fx these days?

I've been looking on eBay and the prices for one pad are more than I paid for the console in the first place, which kind of negates the bargain price I got it for  :?

Looks like I'm NecroPhile posting, but you can never have too many serial numbers :)
So, just for the record here's mine.

Thanks for the welcome.

I fully intend to try and get it back to its original whiteness. It only seems to be the front that's affected.
My first pcengine was a lovely yellow colour when I got it too but it only needed a good soak in some diluted bleach and it came out good as new. I'm hoping the pcfx works just as well, as I really don't want to have to use the peroxide. (Also we don't really get any sun here so would take months lol)

Hi all,
I've been into gaming for nigh on 30+ years now ever since my dad brought home a Dragon, followed by a rubbery spectrum 48k from his work back in the day.
I've somehow amassed a large (stupidly so, my wife would say) console collection but out of them all the PCE is the one that stays permanently connected up for me and my kids to play. (And it is the best looking console ever)
I've recently become the proud owner of a boxed, rather lovely shade of yellow pcfx that I picked up from Japan (minus pad though :( ) for the princely sum of 2100 yen. I've been lusting after one for years but never seemed to get round to buying one but really couldn't pass this one up.
So here's to getting to know you all a bit better and finding out all the nuances of the fantastic pcfx
