I was wondering if it's possible to play/beat the original version of this game without understanding Japanese? I know an english version is now available but I dont play cdr's so i'm sticking with the original version.

GUTS

Yeah I beat it in Japanese, there's only one spot where you'll need a faq because you have to go WAY back and talk to someone from earlier in the game.  Otherwise it's pretty linear.

Keranu

Play as much as you can and when you get stuck, use the walkthrough. I beat the game in Japanese before maybe three or four times.

Thanks for the info guys. Now how about Ys III? I can't find a U.S. copy for a decent price so i'm i'm thinking about picking up an import one.

Keranu

You could probably beat that game without understanding the language, but I haven't done it myself, so I'm not sure. The story isn't so good anyways.

Ys III is very linear so it shouldn't be much of a problem. At least you'll be saved from listening to the awful English language voice acting.

Keranu

...unless you are like me and really enjoy bad voice acting   .

Dragon Slayer had some terrific voice acting as well out here in America, and can't forget the classics Last Alert and Final Zone II.

Are you still around, AlexKidd?? Well, if using a CD-R is really going against your sensibilities (gosh), you can play an original with my English patch using MagicEngine's custom PPF support. David Michel added support for my two ISO PPF files, "Xak3ISOB.ppf" and "YsIV-ISO.ppf". So, just get my Ys IV patch, copy "YsIV-ISO.ppf" in the same folder as pce.exe, stick your original disc in the cd-rom drive, and boot the game with the emulator. It'll be in English and no CD-R required! The reason he did this is it's handy for those who kept failing at burning a proper CD-R or patching the image. It saves them all the trouble. But, if you don't like playing with the MagicEngine emulator, well, then forget that idea too! Heh. (Seriously though, I can't believe you'd so willingly miss out on my English patch over this! For shame!)
