Rondo is probably the most expensive game I have purchased, picked it up for like $90 a couple years back. That's probably the most I ever will spend on a game. I have current gen consoles but what I like about retro gaming is by the time I pick up a current game that I was interested in, it has dropped to a "greatest hits" price. Some of the HD collections I have picked up brand new however because the price wasn't bad (Metal Gear HD, Tomb Raider Collection).

I may get lynched for saying this....But...  if its a game I have been wanting, and I come across it even at a high price, I most likely will get it.  Luckily, the two most pricey titles I wanted in my collection, I already have.  Beyond Shadowgate and MM III.  :)

Akumajou Dracula is by far the most attractive title of this system for me. For titles that interest me to such an extent I am willing to pay the high prices, over 200 even but I've never had to go that high for any game before.

Anywaste, since Akumajou is the prime title of the entire PC Engine library for me I doubt I'll ever pay over 80-90 for a game on the system.

Eventually I'll be looking for the US Dungeon Explorer 2... always wanted to play that one when I was a kid, but could never afford a Duo or CDRom attachment for my Turbo when I was 13/14. I had so much fun with the first one when I was younger, I owe it to myself to pick up the sequal. I've seen them go for around $150 on Ebay, so thatd probably be my max

oh yea I dropped close to $200 on the rare Crazy Hospital unlicensed release and close to 200 on FaceBall promo disc.  given the peculiarity of the titles I dont regret both.  The faceball is actuall fun.  Crazy Hospital I barely played, didn't have the patience to go thru all the menus just to see nakes anime chicks

$50 is the most and thats too bad cause there are may tiltels that cost way more. but its theirs so be it.
I want to be more like 337.

any chances that you would trade your promo vs. my non-promo plus some cash or other trade fodder? :)

The most expensive game that I'm still searching for is Rondo, and if I buy it, it will be the most I've ever spent on a game.  I very rarely buy games new at full price, and generally spend less than $20 on any single game.  Under $10 is my real comfort zone unless its something awesome.

You must not buy many games.

PikachuWarrior

For me anything under $30 is a risk I'm willing to take for any game. If it's crap, I feel like I didn't waste a ton. I don't really buy games full price ($60) unless it's something that I feel may be limited in the future or a cool enough LE/CE that I like. I do most of my buying on Amazon because I get so many gift cards.

No, that's not the case.  I just have very good thrift stores and very good used media shops.  And I try to bundle stuff together when buying on the forums.  But I don't have many super-rare games.  I buy stuff to play, not to have lookin' pretty on the shelf.

I'm in the same boat as Chris.  I rarely spend more than $20 on a video game.  And usually it's closer to $5-$10.  There are so many fun games out there that I usually don't bother trying to collect the "coveted" games that cost more.

Having said that, I'd really like to get Drac X one of these days and I know I'll have to go out of my comfort zone to get it. :)

EDIT: It probably helps that I live in a town with a HUGE Army base (Fort Bragg) and lots of thrift stores, so I don't have to rely on the internet to find a lot of good retro-gaming deals on the more common fare.

Lilgrafx

if I'm being perfectly honest I'd spend 300 on magical chase if it was boxed

Nando

About as much as I would pay for a new game, no more than $60. Although I might make an exception for Rondo or one of the harder to find games. So MAYBE $80 tops? Maybe!

PunkCryborg

I bought Rondo for $60 and that was the single most expensive game I've bought which is pretty cheap for Rondo already. I have spent a couple hundred bucks in games in the past but I'm usually buying lots so they get cheaper the more you buy

Depends on how bad I want it.  Having said that, the sad reality is there's probably no limit to what I'd pay.

Heh, I got it in a lot of 7 for $90. :P Some call it luck, I call it perseverance.

Yahoo.jp?
or craigslist or ebay or forum deals.
craigslist around here sucks for TG16 stuff. :(

and man there are some awesome deals going on here lately.

JapanTokei

I am still in search of a minty complete Madou Monogatari... I would play ~$150 to $175 for that depend on the condition.  same for 1941 SuperGrafx ($100 to $125 for that).  These are the 2 biggies that I am still hunting for, where each's price are fully deserving and not driven by rarities only... (like Renny Blaster)

FiftyQuid

The most I've spent on a game so far was $42 CAD on Shockman.  I nearly purchased a copy of Bonk's III for $79 off eBay the other day, but the auction went too high so I let it go.  Man that was hard to do.  I'm almost obsessive about collecting/purchasing TG-16 games.  I've only been collecting for a couple months, but I find I have to hold myself back.  Half the fun is finding the titles.

I'm sure I'd go up to $100 on a game, but it would have to be in very good condition with the manual.  I play PS3, so I'm constantly shelling out $60 for new games.  I kicked myself for spending $70 on Assassin's Creed II when it first came out only to drop to $60 a week later.  I have some disposable income, but not as much as I think.  :)
I'm busy playing pinball, but I still drop by to visit.

Having owned the TG-16 since 1990 and the Duo since launch, I was able to get those "hard to find games" for regular retail prices or for crazy clearance.  Shit I got Beyond Shadowgate for free.  No one wanted it.  Dungeon Explorer II was $10.  No one wanted the Turbo stuff.  I rage when I see how it's gone since the incarnation of ebay.  I refuse to put money into games that have been gouged so much, and has attracted so many collectors. The inflation to the prices is just rediculous.  IT'S VIDEO GAMES!  I have never paid more than $80 for a game and I sure as hell am not starting now, even if I have the money.  The only way I will pay more than $100 for a game is if it's an arcade PCB I really really really want.

tggodfrey

I would pay up to 3000.00 for a complete Mag Chase.  Oh hell I would be willing to pay twice that; franklly I would be filing bankruptcy for spending money on useless shit.......Just like the govt!
Games currently in play:
PS3: COD Ghosts
TG16: Boxyboy

SNKNostalgia

I would pay quite the price (over $70) for games like Double Dragon 2, Dracula X, River City Ransom, Vasteel US and Dungeon Explorer 2 US maybe.

I also buy (mostly Japanese) Neo Geo AES carts, so I have a different way of seeing game prices, lol. Even so, the most I have paid in the past couple of years was: $80 Real Bout Fatal Fatal Fury, $90 Real Bout Special, $110 Real Bout 2, $200 Last Blade 2 and $180 for Art of Fighting 3 all mint-near mint. This was over a 4-5 year span with patient shopping though.

Typically, the most I pay is $65 after tax for current gen games every 2-3 months. I usually buy current gen games used on the cheap, like Bayonetta, Killzone 2, 3, Uncharted 1 and 2, MGS4 and such.

fraggore

i wouldn't pay more than £50 and that would have to be a special case most games i have paid £1 to £10 for.
I always wanted a thing called tuna sashemie
