Got me a MK V for a really good price a few months back and the thing has eaten two PC power supplies already. Was playing my P.O.W. arcade board on it tonight and got 4 stages in before the screen blanked out and the fans on the PSU stopped spinning. Luckily I only paid $1 for the pair at a flea market, but still I can't believe it has killed both. This recent one was a fairly beefy 350W supply, so it should have had no problem handling it. Anyone with a Vogatek have similar problems?

I've pretty much given up on the damn thing as a result.

Shit how did this happen? I could have swore I was in the Chit Chat when I posted this. #-o

I havent had any troubles with my mk5.... i've been using a small 250w ITX power supply even...  though I havent used the unit too much yet.

I don't see how a supergun can kill a power supply. 350W...you can weld with that, and the PCB should be drawing way more than the supergun anyway.

Maybe your $0.50 power supplies just weren't any good?

Indeed.  I would suggest buying a good quality PS this time, and see how that goes.

Power Supplies with -5V are becoming a rare breed. These two weren't a recent purchase. That $.50 350W survived 2 years in an old PC tower that the motherboard finally took a crap in. Yet die after 45 minutes of play on an MK V? Just seems strange to me.

Was the "beefy" 350w PSU some China knockoff? Those ratings are BS on el cheapo's. I've been using PS power supplies for a couple of Naomi's for years w/o issue. Of course, I do not need -5v so the units are ATX (newer).

That or P.O.W. is just to powerful!

If its a cheap Chinese power supply then it simply may not last. It was probably already worked to death and on its last leg as is when it was in the other system when that died. Do yourself a favor and go hunt down a older Antec or other brand name psu off ebay or something if you need -5 support.

Just get a Negatron, guys.

Luke Morse talks these up:

That's the problem with these old boards, most require the -5v for the amp and some just won't work at all which is how P.O.W. is set up. Power it up without the negative feed, you get just a screen with garbage.

That negatron sounds like a nice idea. Might have to look into it.

Can someone please move this to where it belongs? Thanks.

way don't you just get a jamma P.S.U there not expensive.
