What is the correct spelling of the game starting lil bro

Yo Bro
Yo, Bro
Yo' Bro
The same thing I call it everytime I try to play it - F*&k This

So some people in this forum have championed a certain spelling of this game with a damned apostrophe.

THIS CANNOT BE STOOD FOR!

Yo brethren! Rise up with me and using the power of voting in a pole help me put these neigh sayers in place!

I submit to you the evidence for each spelling:

Exhibit 1 Cover art!

Take note of the correct spelling Yo Bro with a trademark symbol - no apostrophe!
IMG

Exhibit 2 the HuCARD!

Note the mistake of the idiot who did the lettering and wrongly added an apostrophe - an apostrophe this makes no sense what so ever!
]IMG

Exhibit 3 the title Screen!

Note that apparently the programmers thought the title should be Yo, Bro with a comma.  However this adds too silly a pause between the words, therefor the correct way to say it is Yo Bro, as in Yo Bro pass me the controller it is my turn to play in this two player game of Yo Bro.

Hmm...  This is an important question, the answer of which may hold catastrophic ramifications to the Turboverse.  Our community cannot afford to be splintered over this indubitably paramount discussion, so I propose that all who do not toe the party line (once we ascertain what it is, of course), should be castigated harshly, and if they will not recant from their devisive position, then they shall be derided daily until such time as they repent.

BEHOLD!!!

Exhibit 4

Beyond the conspicuous presence of the apostrophe at the top left of the box's rear, if one looks closely at the fine print at the bottom it can be seen that NEC's trademark is for "Yo' Bro".  Logic be damned, my money is on NEC designating as a trademark the spelling of the game as they wanted it to be.

You would bring the dark and seedy backside into this!
and yeah let's go off a back of the back that calls this a 1 player game.
I dimiss this. as you all surely must.

TheClash603

It is assuredly Yo' Bro.

The characters in this game are obviously not human's, so they obviously would not worship a human god.  This title is actually a highly insightful look into the religion of the creatures in the game.

Whereas many people are getting hung up on the apostrophe, I think it is time to really question if this is a long or a short O.  In my opinion, the title of the game contains a long O, which makes an "oooo" sound.  This is a play on Hebrew.  Obviously.

The apostrophe is a little wink at another religious piece of literature, the Qur'an.

The developers were secretly trying to push for peace in the Middle East.  By using fun cartoon characters, they thought they could appeal to both sides.  Unfortunately, they failed.

Wouldn't it be hilarious if they actually trademarked all three versions? Just to cover their bases, haha. I mean, the trademark symbol is on them all.

Maybe "Yo'" is short for something. Yodel Bro... Yogurt Bro... Yom Kippur Bro...

I tried to search NEC on the USPTO, I found Blazing Lazers, China Warrior, Boxyboy... but no Yo', Bro! At least I've found that the whale logo on the TurboExpress on the movie Enemy of the State was meant for "full line of electronic devices for use in computing, image display, printing, data storage and fingerprint identification." I guess that never took off?

For now I'll settle with "Crappy HuCard" or the "KusoCardo" japanese equivalent.

Pshh, I call it Yo Bro Yo Bro due to the cursive letters which clearly require you say it twice.

Example: Yo bro yo bro pass me the controller.

I think I am siding with "apostrophe" here.  There is a higher frequency of uses than non-uses in the spelling of "Yo' Bro".

See more exhibits...

We seem to have left the spine out of the discussion...

/yo.jpg

Also, the manual is littered with apostrophe spelling...

/yo1.jpg
/yo2.jpg
/yo3.jpg

Now, my opinion is that Yo' is an abbreviation of "YOUR".  As in "Hey, that's Yo' Bro over there!"

Oh, well done sir. Good find.  =D>

We are also seeing some liberal use of the exclamation point here and there.  !

Nazi NecroPhile

Yo' Bro is most commonly used, so I guess it's the most correctest option.  I like the idea of it being a shortened form of "Your Bro", akin to Lil' Bro from Camp California.

Right. And i say that because the apostrohe generally indicates an abbreviation of sort.

jlued686

I'm split. The apostrophe is in the most cases. However, there's no apostrophe in the actual game itself.

Hm...this is an important issue, worth a good deal of thought and time...

I'm gonna vote...APOSTROPHE!

RoyVegas

Don't leave out the poster as part of the Exhibits (although it's only a modified version of the box art)!

Not to mention the box bottom flap....

My vote is for the '

All is well. :)

They moved the "TM" if you look close at poster vs. manual.
What the hell was going on over there?  Did they have different teams for EVERYTHING?
Come on Hudson, clean that shit up or you will get bought out and dissolved by one of the "big guys"

Nazi NecroPhile

A half-assed exhibit: track 7 of the Camp California soundtrack is titled Yo Lil' Bro.

But I'm still sticking with Yo'.  The apostrophe from Ys needs a home.

I hate to stir the pot, but I'm voting "Yo, Bro."  That silly mark is a comma that got a sip of the Fizzy Lifting Drink.
The designers are the final word in my book.  On the title screen, it's obviously "Yo, Bro."  Though it's a stupid name, the comma's not incorrect.  "Yo apostrophe" means nothing.  True, "Yo' Bro" does appear in more places, but it was likely some marketing goob that misread the mark, transcribed Yo apostrophe Bro and fucked it all up.

True story: there's a Depeche Mode b-side named Stjarna (Swedish word for star I think?) which was known by fans forever as St. Jarna.  Many years after the fact, it became known that as the single (Little 15) was going into production, someone at the record company misread the word and put down St. Jarna as the name.  All the singles were pressed that way, and even when they re-released them years later they still read "St. Jarna."  Most true fans like myself know it now as it was originally intended by the songwriter: Stjarna.

Moral of the story: Yo, bro, like it or not it's "Yo, Bro."

Quote from: turboswimbzTherefore, the correct way to say it is "Yo, Bro," as in: "Yo, bro, pass me the controller; it is my turn to play in this two-player game of Yo, Bro."

Title screen is the final word. The people who actually made the game must know better what it's called, rather than the marketing suits and pedantic designers that did the advertising/packaging.

glazball

Perhaps the idiocy that was known as Yo! Noid added to the confusion?  They included an exclamation point mid-title!  That's just chaos.

Something else I was pondering: what if they tried to put out Yo, Bro now?  Would it be called Sup, Brah?

FYI, I spent over an hour with YO BRO last night and I couldn't beat the dinosaurs.
BUT...I enjoyed it somewhat.  :-k

HAHAHA!  :pcgs:

I missed this topic the first time around...hilarious.

OFFICIAL: Most folks are, sadly, wrong. It is Yo, Bro.

I'm glad to issue the final word on the matter.

BONUS: I am record asserting that the original working title for this project was Yo, Bro!, but it was deemed to exclamatory by NEC, so they toned it down to a more palatable Yo, Bro.

Esty, I have decide since this poll that we should just update the name:

from now on we shall refer to the game in this forum as:

               Yea, Brah!
