Sparky, this is refreshingly brisk (and nippy) topic :)

Off the top of my head:
Ice Climber
IMG

The Thing -- a bit of it, anyway ;)
IMG

Ice Hockey (for all the Canucks here!)
IMG

... and then we have "classic" winter-themed stages in (nearly every 8-bit/16-bit game created):

Last Alert -- I still get the chills! Guy Kazama doesn't need a parka... or does he?

Contra -- The bastards have shields now... tougher to kill 'em.

Monster Lair -- Slip-n-slide to your death... until you get the hang of it. YOU GOTTA LOVE THE BOSS! ICEMAN!
IMG IMG

Karnov I guess Karnov is more masculine than Guy Kazama could ever hope to be...
IMG

I could go on, and on, and on, and on...

Of course! I grabbed it from sega-16. Can you find a screenshot of the ICEMAN boss? I really wanted to post it because I love how his heart beats through a pane of frozen ice window. LOVE THE CHARACTER DESIGNS of all the bosses.

Are there any decent winter sports games for the latest consoles? They all seem to get rubbish reviews, but I really want one.

TheClash603

The first thing that came to my mind when I read this post was the winter stage in Battletoads the arcade game.  They had one of these rare beauties on the boardwalk in NJ when I went on vacation as a teen...  and I pretty much spent a week beating the game daily.

I will also bobsled the shit out of anyone on this planet in Winter Games...  and if you don't believe me, let's go!  Any time, any place!

Arkhan Asylum

the games recurring theme is "damnit its cold out!"

Thanks. The Genny boss is lackluster compared to the arcade/pce versions. But I still love 'im anyway, of course.

STATUS: In my feeble attempt to find my old posts praising Karnov (NES), I stumbled upon this thread which is 110% appropriate for me since:

(1) It is snowing in N.J. Big, fluffy solid flakes. Awesome. (Not awesome to shovel, but, damn, it is beautiful).

(2) I gotta drag the whole family to an XMAS party tonight when I'd rather be watching a claymation XMAS special with kids

(3) I was inspired to listen to an certain episode of PC ENGINE CITY.

(4) WTFFFFF. How is that episode 7 years old? Seriously. Time flies. I'm still working on things from my "to do" list that PRE-DATE that friggin' episode. Holy Lord.

YOUR MISSION: Enjoy life before another 7 years zip by and all you've done, concretely, is clip a few toenails in the shower.

It is snowing here right now as we speak in Massachusetts. BAH!!! I might be one of the few people who feel this way, but I HATE SNOW!!! I HATE IT!!! GAH! We are expected to get at least a foot of snow here by the time it ends so I am not looking forward to that at all -_-.

Anyway, as far snow in games...I can say for certain at the very least, at or near the beginning of Tales of Destiny Directors Cut remake for PS2 there is a mountain area you must traverse that is covered in that white stuff(snow).

And I believe from when I played Tales of Eternia on PSP back in the day there was a level where it was constantly snowing. I could be wrong but I seem to remember this being true.

Finally, In Kingdom Hearts II for PS2 when you visit the world of "The land of Dragons" Mulan's world, you have to travel to a campsite on a mountain which has snow all over the ground, and as you travel up the mountain, it is covered with snow. In-fact, you eventually do something which causes a snow avalanche which causes the snow to come flying/crashing down and covering a lot of area.

That is all I can think of/remember regarding snow in games up to this point. I am sure there are more and I wish I could have thought of some OBEY/PC-FX games w/ snow but alas I cant think of any so if there are any the titles are eluding me at this point. Ah well!

no snow in rhode island right now, but it's certainly coming.  That calm, cold air is just permeating.

the one winter themed video game that always comes to mind is the hillside run in Strider.  one of gamings best moments of the 16-bit era.

BlueBMW

Mischeif Makers... I think its the third world....  awesome snow levels.

Banjo Kazooie - Freezeezy Peak   Love this one!

You DO NOT prefer something else.  Winter Games (and the whole series of "Games" games) were amazing.  I would be hot dogging and bobsledding for hours BITD and I would be sad when sleep/school/eating/breathing would become needed.

For some reason this thread made me first think of the icy levels in Yo Noid, Matterhorn Screamer for Apple II, and Duck Tales Himalayas.

Karnov NES is a great game staring an underappreciated character.

I know galaxy 1 had some great ice/snow levels. I don't remember 2 as much, but I think there were a couple.

Any good racers with winter conditions?

BlueBMW

Excite Truck had some neat snowy levels...
Jet Moto had a few (and the music was awesome)

Oh another game that had some fun snow levels that I liked was Croc.  Not the best platformer but still cute and fun.

As far as winter based racing games go, I can never forget one of my favorite ones on the PSX...SLED STORM!!!!!! I loved that game as I remember playing it at a buddy's house as a kid when it was new and I love Rob Zombie and DrRAGULA is on the games OST and is one of the songs you can listen to that plays randomly during races. I re-bought that game for cheap at a flea market just for memories...had to have it. I still find it fun even after all these years.

Also, I just remembered that there is at least one or more snowy area's in Valkyrie Profile for PSX in case I failed to mention that earlier. Wasn't mentioned yet in the post. As I am playing the game now, if I can find/figure out the area I will edit my post and add the name in just for specifics.

Gah! All I got out of this thread is that there are obeyers in Mass and RI that I didn't know about that need to get together!  When I lived in RI I didn't have any other nearby obey buddies and you ought to make the most of it!  Play some obey together!  Doesn't one of the Bomberman games feature a snow level?  That's enough!  There ought to be a NE Turbofest.  That is all.
