I just have a small question pertaining to the power supply for a Duo R. If i were to get a Duo R without the AC adapter but still with the AV cables, would i be hard-pressed to find just a PCE power supply? And does the Duo R require a certain adapter or will any PCE power supply work?

If anyone could point me in the right direction i would really appreciate it. I'm about to buy my first PCE so i want to make sure i have it all down.

You can just buy a new, third-party PS.

Not sure if this is relevant but recently I found convenient to use high quality so-called universal PSU instead of original PSUs, to save place and use more modern electrical compliant equipment.

I have a bunch of consoles and also a step-down transformer, and usually have them stored and only playing one at a time for long periods. Now all the original PSUs are stored separately and I have one universal in the living room that does not move. Another advantage is that high quality PSUs can be quite small and get barely warm even when lots of amperage is required.

Whatever you do OP, just make sure to check the specs of the console. You need to have exact same voltage and respect the polarity with the right fitting tip. As for the amperage either match it or get a higher one. It does not matter how high it is, it will just affect the price of the PSU, the console will consume just what it needs.

Good luck!

I've had some luck with thrift stores and goodwill for power supplies. You do have some soldiering and testing to make sure you have the right plug tip and polarity. Of course, Retogamecave.com normally sells aftermarket wall warts...out of stock now it seems.

Thanks a bunch. That was all i pretty much needed to know!

duo r and rx uses standard 9v adaptor which is very common on ebay, radioshack, tandy ( presume they still exist), maplins, etc, (us snes and duo at 10v is much rarer, xrgb 2  at 14v is very rare), a standard multi adaptor (3,6, 9, 12 ) is fine or a fixed voltage one at 9v

the Mah/milliamps at 1a/1000mah, as long the replacement psu's milliamps is higher, ie1.3a , 1800mah, etc, then it's fine, the machine draws its required current, try avoid over double than required current, waste electricity and adaptor may get rather warm

if the op is in UK, most of asia and Europe, Australia, get replacement at 240v  (step down is a waste of electricity in converting, thus original adaptor is rather pointless, this is not audiophile equipment thus no difference)

if in japan or us, the original is fine (though they are bulky 90's tech) but considering their age, could unreliable, as long it's 120v

I'm in the US. I wound up not being able to get the Duo R without the AC adapter on eBay but I'm just staying patient. I've seen some before missing cords but i was hesitant. Now i have no reason not to be. The bids just always end when i have classes, i need to use snipe programs or something maybe.

Kind of related question if anyone would like to help, what about the av components? I've seen one on ebay without stereo sound, just mono. Any different or should i just get all 3 colors and go for stereo sound?

The PSOne and slim PS2 PSUs also work fine with the Duo-R/RX.

Yes, I use a PsOne (slim) psu with my Duo-Rx.

^yeah, i was gonna say the PSX one works fine, to be safe i went & bought a specific one from retro game cave that also works great, can't go wrong with either.
