CIB is strictly a collectible and has a wide range of "value" based on extra-completeness and detailed condition.

Duo RX has a higher collector value and comes with a bad controller, so if you're interested in actually playing games, you should get one that isn't truly "complete" or factor in buying another controller with a decent d-pad.

Thanks! Yeah I'm getting a loose Duo R (+ cables), and I'm planning to get a Hori Fighting Commander PC sometime. I always preferred cross-shaped d-pads.

About how much should I expect to pay for that?

Just a meh controller overall, dpad is squishy, buttons don't feel quite right and it's not very comfortable...

Ave 6 or Hori pads are the way to go...

The d-pad isn't accurate or responsive enough. I don't have trouble with most 16-bit console controller d-pads, but I can't play fighting games or platforming using the RX pad. Separate from that, the very hard buttons don't work as smooth as first party pads and the numbers make them feel uncomfortable. Standard PCE/Turbo/Duo pads already have a d-pad and buttons which are as good as it gets. It's too bad that they're the only option (modding aside) for PC-FX games.

The Hori Fighting Commander is a quality alternative to the Ave Pad 6.

I too dislike the RX controller. I have a horrible time trying to execute any street fighter II special moves with it.

A good working DUO-R runs anywhere from $200-$300 depending on the cosmetic condition and what other accessories come with it like the original box, manual etc....

I like them; they aren't necessarily worse or better than standard NEC pads. It's Hori during their glory years, so they're as good as 1st Party Nintendo. I personally find the rounded Hori DPad to be a little easier on the thumb during intense shooting games comparative to the NEC pad. If you're wild about the Nintendo D-Pad cross, they might be your favorite PC Engine option.

In general though, I personally prefer the Avenue Pad 3: the II and I button feel like they're in a more natural location as opposed to the 6 button options, and I love the ability to turn III into Run or Select depending on what I'm playing. Way more comfortable for the item crashes in Rondo of Blood. You can also assign Run to III and get a "slow-mo" pausing mode with its turbo switch, if that's your thing, I think. I've never bothered with that myself.

The CPS-Fighter is a good cheap alternative with real arcade parts, but it's still not using real buttons (although they have microswitches at least). That's a very nice arcade stick Mercutio. Too bad you can't use both sets of controllers though.

It's pretty fun for 1UP shooters, so that's good. Works on Saturn, NES, SNES, Genesis (with a padhack breakoutbox), and Neo Geo. Ah well! If I can find another HSS-0130 at the right price, I might make a dedicated PCE stick set.

Currently I use a Duo-RX as my main system and a PCE/Coregrafx+Booster Super CD Rom as backup.

Oddly I've never had any accuracy issues with the RX's pad/Arcade Pad 6.  I just tested again to make sure I wasn't wrong about it, with Street Fighter II' and I was able to pull off every high level combo with no mistakes or unwanted inputs, its perfectly accurate.  I did find some things I felt made it not perfect; the unneccesary thickness of the pad on the outer bottom, and the raised middle portion would cause my finger to hit it instead of the "IV" button until I adjusted for it. Also, the edges of the d-pad are sharp and can cause discomfort if you like to "slide" your thumb on it to get your moves off. But it is by no means inaccurate. I have 2 of these pads (both in mint condition), as I wanted one for each of my setups, and even though I got a really good deal on one, they are really overpriced.

I have a ton Avenue Pad 6's and they're okay, I'd rate the Hori Fighting Commander PC a notch higher but I found it will sometimes cause the system to crash if you plug it in with the power turned on.  Since I got the RX pads I haven't gone back, and to be honest I didn't know people didn't like them till I read this thread, since they sell for such a high price.  I was considering doing a mod for it so I could use the III button as the run/select as if it were an Avenue Pad 3, but the stupid thing is worth too much so I'm having second thoughts.. oh well.

switching topics, i do own a duo r and love it. i was lucky to get mine cib and mint. it came with a mint duo rx controller which i think its a decent controller, also came with an everdrive and panic bomberman for 500 shipped. i would say 250 to 300 for a loose duo r is the going rate.

I built it. It's got a Sanwa OOM-8-6AR-H arcade replacement part installed on an HSS-0130 Saturn stick, with MC-Cthulhu boards inside. On the rear, it has DB9 and RJ-45 jacks to connect to an assortment of systems.
