So this game has a rarity of 9 on DP.  2 are on ebay right now, at the 200+ mark.  How many of these are out there?
What a horrible night to have a curse...

td741

Umm....  Well I can confirm the existance of one  (US version) here. :P

I was lucky and bought mine a while back from DonSal Inc. (I had burned out my 2nd TurboDuo and ordered a bunch of games with my new Duo.)  I think he had a sale buy one get one half-price or something.   I think I bought Bonk 3 CD and Dynastic Hero.

It's really low run, I admitteldy overpaid for a copy quite a few years ago myself too. So just in people replying to you I can confirm the existance of two copies.

I wish that I could tell you, but even though I am a huge fan of the Turbo, I have physically never seen a copy of this game, and I used to work at Game Dude, so that's how rare it is, I never saw one come into the store and we had a ton of NEC games.
END OF LINE.

jlued686

It's pretty damn rare.  I finally broke down and bought a Japanese copy on Japan Game Stock for something like $15.  There's a FAQ on GameFaqs.com (in the Sega section), so that helped with any language issues.

TurboXray

I paid $10 for a used US copy some years back. I think I lost it in a move. I never knew the game was rare, otherwise I would have kept a closer eye on it.

merriman_bk

Yah, last one that went up for auction sold for like $430. :s

I will have to look into a Japanese card of this.
END OF LINE.

Kaminari

That sounds weird to me. I remember seeing truckloads of US copies in local French shops dedicated in imported games. Maybe that's where they all ended up :)

I still have my US copy along with my Japanese one.

Okay, well, sell me your US version!

merriman_bk

First of the two on ebay sold for $515!  Only $500 more than you can get the jap version for -- what a great deal...

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought only 5,666 copies of Dynastic Hero were made?

What the hell, you used to work at Game Dude?  When, ....do I know you?  I used to go there allllll the time, got to know a few of the people there, I think the only guy I know there now, is a skinny guy named Pat.  Anyways, I've actually seen a copy or 2 of Dynastic Hero there :D   I've seen plenty of rare games there.  Infact, I bought Ys 4 & Sidearms Special there for $12 each when Ys 4 was fetching upwards of $200 on ebay, & I think Sidearms was around $70 or so(I already had the games, so I bought them for my cousin, the ungrateful lil' bastard).  They used to have a heap of PCE games come in every so often.........not anymore.  Hardly anything there now!

Anyways, I bought the game when it came out, ordered it at .....uh....Game something in Thousand Oaks, can't remember the name right now, there's still one in Simi Valley.  Anyways, I got it there, although I think I remember seeing a copy at Babbage's.  So, how many does that count so far

Thats just how many were shipped to retail.

The rest were sent out to the few magazines that actually still reviewed Turbo games, used as demos at trade shows and of course they had to keep one on hand over at the Turbo Tip Hotline.

Oh, sorry CrackTiger, I was just being silly -- the whole "666" and all :).

I actually had no clue about the actual pressings until you shared them with us :). I must admit, now that I know only 5K+ were made, I'm pretty darn upset :(

Do you know the press runs for any other Turbo games? I couldn't even guess...

yes, is there a resource for finding out how many of any given game or turbo games were produced?  If so, please direct me to it :)

I don't think we'll ever be able to get reasonably accurate figures on Turbo games. The closest we'll come is when people invloved in Turbo development from back in the day do interviews and give rough numbers on games in general.

We could probably track down more accurate numbers on Working Designs games, from Victor Ireland interviews or contacting him directly or something.

true - Is Vic Ireland on ebay??  I talked to a guy - gamegenie/gamesgenie and they claim so.  Can anyone verify this?
What a horrible night to have a curse...

ParanoiaDragon

The only thing I know about Vic right now, is that he's behind Gaijinworks.  And that's it.  Sounds like he's still in the business, so, I expect to see more games from him soon.  By chance, does this person say he's from northern California, like Redding or something(can't remember where WD was, I think it was Redding).
IMG

esteban

EmeraldRocker can verify this, but Victor once put his PC Engine collection on ebay for $20,000 (or more?). It was massive! But he removed it after a day or three. No bids. This was.... 3+ years ago?

So, yes, it seems that Victor has been on ebay, but I don't know how frequently.

I usually lurk on this site, the DUO is my favorite system of all time I thought this was the time to make my first post. I was not aware that my copy of Dynastic Hero was worth upwards to the 500 dollar range, and when I metioned it to my wife, she said "SELL IT NOW". I have'nt played it in years, but I feel I should hold on to it. I wonder, if I hold onto it will it go up in price, or will it somehow get a miracle reprint and go down in price when the WII comes around. I keep staring at it now and wondering...

TurboXray

The price could go back down. I remember when Dracula X was going for $400+ and now it's in the $100-150 range(roughly), but then again DH(US) is much more rare than DX.

merriman_bk

NOOOO it's not worth it man, get down from the ledge, everything will be OK.

I always wondered about this (also Magical Chase), how many people own this game and have no idea of its worth (or at least the price it fetches).  And if only roughly 5,000 copies exist, how many of those are still in circulation (complete and working condition).  I loved to one day add this game to my collection (it and Bonk 3 CD are the last Bigs I would need), but paying around $500 for a single game doesn't seem likely (or ethical for myself knowing the state of the economy and the world really). Good luck with the auction man.

P.S. - No offense but why put the data-side of the CD down on a surface other than it's case or a Duo (which greatly increases the chances of it getting scratched up for simply no reason).  That drives me absolutely insane when I see that in auctions, especially rare games.

Although I don't think that too many copies of Magical Chase were made, I don't know if it's really quite as rare as it seems.

I think that the fact that it's actually a quality game that is actually desirable outside of rareness makes more people hang onto it than all those rare games that noone really wants to play.

This also makes people snatch it up as soon as anyone lists it for sale, making it even harder to find.

Of course, as a later HuCard release that has no real case, its certainly even rarer to find with anything other than the loose game itself, let alone manual or box.

It also gets inflated value since the PC Engine versions aren't common either, unlike Dynastic Hero.

Thanks for the encourgement with the sale, I'm having a tough time with this. I seen that my copy of Beyond shadowgate is worth about 200 dollars but I don't think if I would ever part with it. (nor would I make the mistake of telling my wife its worth that much, but thats another story)

Oops    Sorry, I should have looked closer. The last guy who sold a DH on Ebay had the disc like I described so I just assumed the whole world had lost its mind.

CrackTiger

When I scanned in my original and bootleg Sapphire discs, I had to lay them face down on the scanner without a case in order for them to scan properly(and I'll probably have to do this with every PCE CD I scan in).

I did lay down a piece of paper behind them before closing the lid though. I don't think it's that bad as long as you're careful and the surface you're laying them down on is clean.
