Also, though it's not the Turbo version, Splatterhouse is included in the Namco Museum for Switch out today.

Wait, this is the WiiU, not the Switch.

Now this thread is suddenly more interesting.

Nintendo doesn't have VC out for Switch yet, I am assuming.

Honest question: has Nintendo ever honored digital purchases across platforms?

I don't think they built the infrastructure for it (not that they would want to, if folks are willing to re-purchase games).

Anyway...just curious. Obviously, I believe that Nintendo should honor past digital purchases, simply as a matter of principal. I know there is little incentive to do this, unless enough parents complained. But even then....

If you purchased a VC title on Wii and want it on Wii U you can transfer them over. I never did because I prefer them on my CRT. But you can only have them in one place. Then if the title was upgraded you can purchase the upgrade for a small consideration.

Ok, that seems like a reasonable way to deal with it for "most folks" (who abandon older consoles for the shiny new one), but it stinks for folks who like to keep older consoles around.

Still, at least it is a step in the right direction (this *is* Nintendo, after all...)

However, it falls far short of the way it *should* work: multiple devices can simultaneously play the game (a reasonable number of licenses provided, by default...with ability to transfer a license at future dates).

:)

Next Up: I wonder if Nintendo will honor Wii VC --> Switch VC digital purchases?

Sadly, Nintendo hasn't announced jack shit about VC on Switch. I hope they do, though.

I had to check the calendar to make sure it wasn't April 1st.

It's odd they are still releasing games for a dead system, I can't imagine the sales numbers being worth it at this point.  Maybe this will allow for easier ports to Switch once they get the VC or it's equivalent up on it?

A couple more out today:

- Chew Man Fu (Virtual Console for Wii U)
- Shockman (Virtual Console for Wii U)

esteban

I am shocked that Shockman was released today

I'm in a state of stupefaction because of it.

Holy crap...why?

Power Golf (Virtual Console on Wii U)

NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

This is even more shocking than Shockman, to be honest.

Goddamn.

They just keep releasing these although WiiU is all but buried. Shame they don't do these for 3DS, would be a better fit and it might be fun to buy few shooters and practice them on a go.
Also choice of games is sometimes fairly dubious.

They actually did a few for 3ds, in japan anyways. Strange that they never released them in america though, because they're pretty much all but ready for US release, even the little home icon with the console next to an oldschool TV changes to a TG-16 if it runs on a US 3DS.

Alt-Nintega

what are the advantages of playing these games on WiiU over let's say, original Turbografx-16 console?
Last time I checked original Turbo even on ebay costs less than a Wii.

Are you sure it's not trolling?  At the very least, it's a stupid question.

Nobody is saying that playing them on Wii U is better or the preferred option, though there are some positives: it's generally cheaper to buy the roms than to buy their physical counterparts, you can play on the semi-portable tablet thingy (bonk while pooping!), and they'll look good on a big lcd without needing an rgb mod, expensive upscalers, etc.

Well,  how about this?

Necromancer

QuoteEnjoy a world of mysteries.

Necromancer is a horror RPG released for the TurboGrafx-16 in 1988. You are a hero who heads out on an adventure with two other allies in order to search for the Evil Holy Sword "Necromancer" to defeat an evil force that is about to take over the Kingdom of Ishmaelia. Defeat enemies to level up and travel the land to gather information about the Evil Holy Sword "Necromancer."

You will be able to choose your two allies among five possible candidates at the castle which is the starting point of the game. Each ally possesses different abilities so choose them wisely and make sure that you progress the game with each character's specialty in mind.

NecroPhile

Odd one to bring out here unless it's been translated.

I thought the same thing. But apparently...

QuoteThis is a Japanese Import title. Import games may contain foreign language (audio and/or text) or other references that are unknown to consumers. This RPG is Japanese only and requires proficiency in the Japanese language to play.
Why would Konami bring release this here without translating it? Odd decision, indeed...

esteban

Is there an extensive FAQ/guide for Necromancer that I am unaware of?

Crazy town.
