Hi, Im considering buying either a TurboExpress or PC Engine GT.

I was just wondering if hucards from all regions will play on either machine. So for example, will hucards from the US work on a Turbo Express and the other way around? Or are both version totally region free.

I would be gratefull for an answer, I can seem to find the answer online.

They sadly do not, certain pins on the edge connector where you slide the card in are reversed on each console to prevent games from being played in both.  There is a mod you can do to add a toggle so you can switch between each type but it would be very hard to do on a express/GT.  You'd most likely end up with a bad LCD or something of the like after opening the thing up and messing with it.

Best bet is to go for the unit you'd play the most games for.

If you go with the US system, you can get a convertor and play both US and Jap games. That's your best bet for total compatability.

Supervlieg

Cool, thanks for the answers. Any idea where I can pick up one of those US-JAP convertors?

lordkaosu

Turbo Zone Direct(www.tzd.com) has them for $99.99

I would recommend either that one(what I have) or try to get a Kisado off ebay. Sometimes you can find other convertors floating around ebay but they either don't work very well/don't fit correctly.

lordkaosu

Your prices are a bit high, especially considering you want $99 for the used crap convertors. Even Kisado's sell used for around $70(when you can find them), and you can get TZD's new quality convertor for the same as your used cheapies...

CrackTiger

Don't waste you money on a convertor when you can just pick up an actual GT for the same price or less.

If you're not some sort of collector and just want to playu the actual games, its always cheaper to buy extra PCE hardware instead of a convertor.

Yeah I always thought the converters weren't worth it either, especially since I hear some of them can be fragile and freeze the game from the slightest tap.

I bought a Duo RX because of the trouble the orange Kisado(supposed to be the best) gives me with the Arcade Card Duo.

The only reason I have the Kisado, is because I bought it along with SFIICE as soon as it was released to play it on my Duo, TGCD and Express(got it in the mail the morning of a week long road trip) back in the day.

Back then, there was no real internet and import hardware cost a fortune.

Now there's no reason to buy a convertor other than as a collectible, especially with people like DLite providing quality mods for less.
