R-Type is probably teh crowned master of all LA TRAPPE shooties on earth!! no doubt.

it's my most beloved nostalgic shooter and i never could beat it  always get stuck in hell level 7. 1~5 i can beat almost with closed eyes. 6 is hard, but 7 is hell on earth!

but that game is so pure magic. i can't live without it. it minted me for life!

These certainly aren't "masters", but Aeroblasters gets tricky towards the end and basically requires some trial and error to learn the safe routes. Parodius isn't very hard as far as shooters go, but the first time through I came upon situations that I died at in order to learn how things were intended to play out (like the stripper's legs).

The ending of Salamander was pretty ridiculous on NES (I only played through once on PCE years ago).
Justin the Not-So-Cheery Black/Hack/CrackTiger helped Joshua Jackass, Andrew/Arkhan Dildovich and the DildoPhiles destroy 2 PC Engine groups: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook, then the other by Aaron Nanto!!! Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together! Both times he blamed the Aarons and their staff in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged/destructive/doxxing toxic turbo troll gang which he covers up for under the "community" euphemism!

Yeah, I haven't played Salamander for quite a while now, but lordy lordy she's tough.

Rayxanber II is made of equal parts of pain, frustration, and pure hate.  That bastard kicks my ass six ways to Sunday (not that I'm terribly skilled at shooters otherwise), but it sure is pretty.

If you're referring to the very end (where the beams come out from the walls) you can 'cheat' by staying at the very top of the screen, dead-center.

It's bad form, though. ;)

Sinistron

Same with R-type- and I practically worshipped this game as a kid- it's probably the only game I love that I don't want to beat- I'd rather stay pwned by this game- I considered buying the R-type 1 & 2 hus as well so that I can start the second half with all power-ups- but it wouldn't even feel right to me beating R-Type 1- would feel cheap.

Damn!  That's where I got nailed.  I wouldn't consider that a cheat- just a tactic   It's more a 'cheese' than a cheat- a cheat's a code or a password that isn't your own.

I find Cybercore pretty damn tough in places, due to the brutally stingy powerup system.

I agree. Finding weaknesses in bosses is all part of the game.

When you have nothing but a peashooter, I find that increasing your speed (and basing your strategy on swift dodging) really helps. And, not just for Cybercore, but, for instance, the final stage in Blazing Lazers (Gunhed), Gradius series, etc. etc.

I always felt the games were balanced this way to give you a chance if you should lose your power-ups. The difficulty level increases, of course, when your ship can crash into the environment (i.e. the maze level in Cybercore).

I couldn't get through it otherwise.

I played the NES version a lot when I was a kid, and as long as you had a couple lives when you got to that part, you were OK since you'd respawn exactly where you died.

I need to try Salamander on difficult mode. Is eveything the same, just more baddies and bullets?
