whenever you try to switch off the weapon settings to [なし], the game sets the settings back to default once you left the menu, as shown in the pics below:

changed weapon settings:

after you left the menu and check the settings again:

the other settings are getting stored perfectly, just the weapon settings seemed to be affected from this "bug".

bug or kinda user fault? :-k

The other changes you make are stored perfectly. Hmmmm.

It would be weird if the weapon settings behaved differently than the rest of the options, so this probably isn't the solution:

1. When exiting this screen, does a particular button (e.g. "I", "RUN") function as PROCEED WITH CHANGES --> MAIN MENU, whilst another button ("II") function as CANCEL --> MAIN MENU ?

2. Has the PCE developed intelligence and purposefully mapped out the controls for you, making your life easier?

Anyone know if Motoroader MC originally came with a Spine Card?

Blah, answer my question!  I've wanted MC, but I heard it needs the Memory Base 128.  Is this correct or not?  :D

No, it's not required or supported.

I'll do it right now. :)

UPDATE: OK, it took me longer than I anticipated to find the goddamned game! However, you inspired me to pull out the 27" Trinitron my brother gave me recently and snap a pic (or two). The TV lives in the closet, and I slide it on an old blanket. Yeah, this is a temporary solution.

1. Guess what? I could not find a way to map the weapons to different buttons. I used both the "RUN" and the "I" button in the option screen. I even tried the "II" button.

2. II for missiles and I for bombs is apparently the only way to play this game?

3. I checked the Backup Ram and the save file was there, intact. I even cleared the Backup Ram (initialized) to see if that would help things. Nothing.

4. Weird!

Thank you.  My idea came from the old gamengai post: http://www.gamengai.com/gm_inf.php?gm_id=814  Gaijinpunch has made mistakes before, no surprise there.  Good to finally have an answer. :)
