TurboDuo Laser Problem - Adjust or replace question

Hey guys, I've been reading alot on this board about laser problems with their duos. Currently my duo will play some CD games if turned upside down, however it still can freeze often and the games that play seem to be ones with probably less information on them {John Madden - Riot Zone} and some games I get the read disk error {Ys - Lords of Thunder}. I've owned this duo since Christmas 92 - Manufacture date says Sept 92 and the games are in great shape so I know it's not the games. Wondering if anyone that understands these things better than I can give their thoughts on if I need to outright replace the laser or if it probaly just needs an adjustment? Thanks...

In my experience, it's RARELY necessary to replace the laser.  Usually you can take a "non-functioning" laser and put it in a DuoR and it works perfectly fine.  The problem, other than the capacitor replacement that's well-documented, is usually the pots on the Duo.  You'll definitely need to adjust them to get the best play experience. 

I meant to post pics of it, but I have a way to adjust the pots during disc play to make the process MUCH easier than removing the top, turning a bit, replacing the top, testing.  I simply drilled holes in a crappy Duo cover I had and can adjust the pots during play.  It works fantastic.  Can get pretty much any Duo playing any game including burns now.  Someday I'll post the (obvious) pic of it.

Thanks, if the capacitor problem is what you referred to in the Sound Fix thread I also have that. Plays sound effects fine but redbook either does not play or crackles out quick.

I'm curious about the holes in the duo cover to adjust the laser. My duo is old and a little beat up and I never plan on selling it so I'd probably be willing to do that if it cured having to take it apart everytime it needs adjusting.

Does your Mod service do all this?
