10/31/2023: Localization News - Dead of the Brain 1!

No, NOT a trick, a Halloween treat! Presenting the Dead of the Brain 1 English patch by David Shadoff for the DEAD last official PC Engine CD game published by NEC before exiting the console biz in 1999! I helped edit/betatest and it's also a game I actually finished in 2023, yaaay! Shubibiman also did a French localization. github.com/dshadoff/DeadoftheBrain

Hi everyone- I made a controller mod PCB just like the one posted below last night:

wayback://monkey.co/pce/pad.htm
New: monkey.co/nes-to-pc-engine-controller-mod

I built the circuit, verified all wiring and PCB connections and everything is perfect, however it doesn't work right. The right direction is always activated, and when I press right, it activates button II. I did notice that when I disconnect wire #3 from the Din8 cable, the issue goes away (but right and button II dont' work at all). Any idea what is going on? Is it possible my issue is because I used a 74LS157B chip instead of a 74LS157 (accidently ordered the 'B' type, not sure whats different).

Please help! The mod came out visually amazing, however its not usable yet  :(

Ultimately this is so I can play my PC Engine on an arcade cab... video and audio are already working perfect, just sorting out controls.

These sites might be able to help you. Although I suspect it is probably because you have the 'B' version of the chip.

Well that sucks. The chips I got are indeed good, I swapped it into an official controller and it works just fine. I even tried using the IC out of a PC Engine controller, and got the same results. The schematic is bad, however I can't quite figure out exactly what is bad.

Unfortunately I only have turbo-fire controllers and its a bit hard for me to discern what resistors/caps are needed just to support rapid fire. There are a handful more resistors than shown on the schematic, and 3 caps in an official controller (1 electrolytic and 2 ceramic discs). Does anybody have a non-turbo fire PC engine controller? I would really appreciate a scan of the PCB, and possibly the value of a few of the resistors installed on the board. I know I can fix the schematic up with a little assistance...

You need 74LS163 chip for rapid fire.
