@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

What kind of numb shit easily whips through some of the hardest shooters on the PCE and yet can't handle relatively tame stuff like Dragon Spirit, Dragon Saber, and Forgotten Worlds?

It's a chore to play through these games man. I would die in R-type during the later stages, but still comeback to it for repeated play. It's not that I can't do it. I could probably do it, But the motivation is drained when the game fucks with the player the wrong ways. Does this make any sense???

I don't much like Dragon Saber either. It feels rushed and looks like poo. Then again, I wasn't a fan of the prequel either. Some of its flaws and resulting difficult details are definitely coder-induced. I swear, someone was smoking some happy shit when they were on this production. It's not without its merits but this definitely gets put into the "mundane" list despite its unique theme.

I'm gonna make a shooter where you play as a chicken, and fire eggs as your main weapon and giant piles of turd as your bomb weapon. Of course, since both come out of the back end, the chicken also has to fly backwards the whole game.

i beat the NES version on a rental when i was 9-10. The turbo version was a tough clear.

CrackTiger

Pretty much all arcade games have quarter munching cheap spots. Dragon Saber likely wasn't rebalanced for the different sized play area in the HuCard version and may very well be even cheaper at times.

But some of the most celebrated "classic" games (like Ghouls 'n Ghosts and Ninja Gaiden NES) have cheap features and could be considered essentially broken. But people who love them accept them, warts and all and it's overcoming those unfair sections that make that makes them all the more rewarding to beat.

Of course personal preference will make some cheap games not worth the effort and although I haven't played through Dragon Saber, I can totally see how it could be frustrating as I'm not a fan of oversized player sprites.

Mathius

I am trying to play through Dragon Spirit and so far have concluded that it is a bit unfair due to said sprite size.

Bernie

I found them both hard, but I like em.  :)

My favorite Dinosaur game growing up was always Joe & Mac on the SNES. It was close to arcade perfect.

Rolf, that my dear is a big, BIG LIE :P.
In fact they were completely different games (kinda like Toki on the mega drive compared to the arcade).
They used recycled some of the arcade elements quite faithful, but beside of that the game was something completely different.

Anyone remember Dino Riders from bitd?
Man, I ate that stuff up as a kid!  It didn't hurt that my uncle at the time worked for Tyco and gave me a bunch of the toys from that line.

If only I had kept all that stuff...

Dino Riders were awesome! I wanted the toys as a kid, but they were too pricey. I have a VHS version of episode 1 that my parents bought me way back when. 1987 I think it's dated. Still watch it every so often. :P

Didn't it air during the "Marvel Action Hour" or whatever it was called along with Reboot and Robocop cartoons?

Lol. All I knew was the big T-Rex from the first stage looked like the one from the arcade's first stage T-Rex. That's all I cared about! :)

It's imperative that I get Prehistoric Isle for the Neo Geo MVS one day before I depart this world! A game that combines dinosaurs and with a shooter is pure win. :)
