White coregrafx with interface unit and white CD-ROM drive.  Does that make me racist?

I used to own that model when I was younger.  I feel like an idiot for selling it, and wouldn't mind having another like it.  I only have one question though:  is there a "Reverse converter" for hucards--you know, one that allows you to play U.S. games on a Japanese system?  To be honest, the only US game I might want is AD&D:  Order of the Gryphon anyway, but even so, it would be neat to play it on that system.  So, is there such a converter?

I was poking through some old threads recently that were asking the same question, and from what I could tell, the answer was "no" -- at least, as far as an "official" (read: permanent, molded plastic) version goes. However, those "chopsados" that everyone is chatting up seem like they'd fit the bill, especially since you really only want to play one US game. Remember that you'd still need to open up the console and ground pin 29 of the Hu chip, regardless of method that you use to play US HuCards.
If anyone gets any leads on a "fair priced" copy of Coryoon, please lemme know!

Where is fancy bred?

PunkCryborg

briefcase units are so sexy the ladies will be all over you and your PCE if you get one

Edmond Dantes

If it requires internal modification, then I'll use it just for Japanese games.  If I got a briefcase the last thing I'd wanna do is gut it.

CDs are all free, hueys have to be converted. or use the blueBMWs new region obey PCB.

sure the IFU30 combo is the most sexiest thing ever created in the world of video games, and probably also will last as the most sexiest thing ever created in the world of video games for any upcomming futures.

Yeah, it would be a sexy beast, wouldn't it?

I did some checking into it, and I managed to find one complete unit (coregrafx, cd and interface unit with hookups and controller) on eBay going for roughly $300-$400 shipped.  That seems to be a normal price even if I buy the individual parts piecemeal, so it's looking like this is gonna be a "save up for it" project.  I think I'll set money aside and get one of these babies next summer.

What a price increase! They used to go for $180-$200 shipped (at least that is what I paid for mine).

To be fair, the one I saw was actually around $150 asking price, but it was being shipped from Japan.

If I were to collect them piecemeal, it looked like I could get the Interface Unit for $30 (didn't check the shipping cost on those) and the hucard unit for $80-100.  However, every stand-alone CD-ROM unit I saw was listed as "junk" and not working.  They were very cheap, but I don't see the point of getting something that's broken.

Seems to me you should be able to get a white PCE or CoreGrafx for less than $80-$100 unless things have changed drastically in the last couple years. I sold a white PCE on eBay four or so years ago and got $50 for it which was more than I expected.

I think its the "Buy It Now" culture.  Sadly, that results in a lot of inflated prices.

Perhaps I should just buy a Briefcase model from a member here... if you're all telling me the truth, it seems like I would get a better price that way.

Snow Crash

I'm trying to get this setup as well. In retrospect i should definitely have got it in one go. Buying it a bit at a time will probably result in something that would cost the same if not more than a reasonable priced briefcase setup.

GohanX

Not to mention that it's really hard to buy a PCE and CD drive that are the same shade of white these days if you get the pieces separately.

this is the cheapest I've found on eBay for a complete unit.  With shipping the price comes up to $375.

I won't be able to afford that for at least a month or two...
