They are all bummed cause they are on their 3rd Xbox in some cases. Microsoft clearly has more of a quality "Control" problem when it comes to hardware. On the flip side Sony obviously has more of a quality control problem with online gaming security. If the cuts you are referring to are the fact that it doesn't have backward compatibility / memory card slots then i'm ok with that.

The PS3 is more powerful than the 360. There is no "on-par".

What the 360 has over the ps3 is ease of development. PS3 is more hardcore in that regard.

Wasn't that Hudson's philosophy when developing the PCE?

I honestly can never tell the difference between 360 and PS3 ports. Sometimes one port might be shaded slightly darker or lighter, but for the most part they're identical. I'm sure the scale tips both ways depending on what game you're comparing.

Anyway, I think Sony will come out of this with a scar or two, but still standing. People love to pick sides like it's a sport, but competition is a good thing. Even in an unlikely scenario where Sony really was in dire straights, Microsoft might even throw them a billion dollar bone to stay afloat, like they did to Apple when they were on the brink. The last thing Microsoft wants now is to be in control of a monopoly again. It's all fun and games until the lawsuits and threats from governments start coming.

track through. (But I bet the amazon info is all faked/stolen).
Anyone see that the Japaneese government isn't letting Sony re-start the network in Japan until they can satisfactorily explain why it happened and what they have done about it? That's a big loss right there for Sony:)

True, but it's an oversight at a time sony can ill afford one. Everyone is watching, and mistakes like that are gonna be used later in a "you screwed it up last time. Why should we trust you now...?" arguement.

Don't think so. The Japaneese goverment says sony can't go back on-line there until all these issues are cleared up. Every time sony gets it wrong, it costs them money. And just imagine the fallout if japaneese gamers can't connect for another month or so, until the -government- vets the new network. <ouch>

I do give sony credit; they still have a couple of weeks to go, and they started putting the network back on-line already. But I just don't see how they can positively identify users to re-connect the accounts if any information they might use has been stolen, and -could possibly- be used by the hackers. I guess they are just gonna have to go with machine-id verification until this whole thing gets sorted out. Meaning even if you just want to change your psn password, you have to do it from the original machine

I do wonder if machine id's / ips were part of the stolen data, though. If so, we may see someone (finding a way of) faking them for the next round...And I do believe there -will- be a next round....

Not 'again', as this is a entirely different kind of attack. Some douche tried to use a bunch of IDs and passwords, most of which failed (had they come from hacked Sony servers, they all would've worked), and Sony recognized the odd behavior and shut it down. Isn't that how it's supposed to work?

NO, ANY FORM OF ATTEMPTED ATTACK MEANS SONY IS PWNTED.

this is completely normal network security behavior. "Hey someones diddling around being a tool. Shut er' down".
