While many would agree that sites such as demonoid and piratebay are typically used to facilitate the distribution of copyrighted stuff, I'm afraid that if the restriction/crackdown on the internet continues we wont have the same internet that I grew up with.  Everything will be restricted and will only be available as a pay service.  I hope I'm wrong, but I suspect the internet is headed this way.  Even things like youtube and facebook that got their start as a free service are now turning into giant advertisment machines.  Can I have the old Napster back?

AOL disks that came in the mail.... ahh how times HAVE changed.  In a way I feel bad for the next generation of young people.  They have missed out on what were probably the golden years of the internet.  Even though I'm not that old, I am thankful that I experienced a time before the modern internet.

Where there's a will there's a way. The face of piracy will always change, but it will always be there. Each of these sites/trackers/apps will just be blips on a long line of file-sharing methods tracing their roots back to the old BBS days.

I remember finding the demo for the classic vehicular carnage-game Carmageddon on a site called Rocketdownload. What blew my mind at the time was that I was on a 28k modem, and the game was a whooping fifteen megabyte download. I always wondered "WHO can dowload something like that?!". Downloading it while on school, using their superfast ISDN connection would be possible, but I only had 10 megabytes of space on my account total (which could be exceeded) and I would have no way of bringing it home from there

Thankfully, a friend had a demo cd.

Pretty much the way things will be in the future, the internet is just the medium now.  I can set up a VPN with some friends or even use an open source drop box like services/program and share to my hearts content.

Newsgroups will always be the way to go.  It's been around before torrents and it's way better.  Where do all of you  think the torrents come from?  It all starts on the newsgroups most of the time.  I go with newshosting.com  They are on an insanely fast server with almost 100% completion, and over a year of file retention.  I can dl 17gb of stuff in a couple hours.

Tats why do you not use Perfect Dark or Share?
