Hello everyone :) Happy to be here. Im kind of new to the Tg16 world so I will have many questions to ask you knowledgeable people in the next few weeks. I never played the console as a little girl nor had i ever heard about it up until 3 years ago. Once i had a first hand look at the game play I was so amazed to see how awesome the graphics and vivid colors were compared to its direct competition the Nintendo Nes, which I owned as a kid but now looking back I wish I had a Tg16 instead. Im not knocking on the Nes, there are some really epic games for that console, but there is just no comparison visually, and the audio kicks ass. My favorite game for the Tg16 is Devils Crush so far, but I'm really looking into finding some good puzzle games to add to my Turbo Library. So this is my first question, which are the best puzzle games for this system?

Welcome to the board always nice to see new people finding out how great the turbografx/pc engine is! As far as puzzle games go my favorites are: splash lake (cd game), chew man fu (hu card), and klax (hu card)

ParanoiaDragon

I'm not big on puzzler's in general, but off the top o' my head.

Splash Lake
Puyo Puyo
Puyo Puyo Tsu
Panic Bomber
Klax
Chew Man Fu

I'll have to think of some more.  There's also Tongueman's Logic, but it's a rom only, no card or cd for it, astleast not yet.

NICE :D

and welcome to the asylum of OBEY.

are you also able to play PCE games or only TG16 stuff? because that would enable a lot more of great puzzle stuff to you. :)

also we must tell you, that the PCE was more in direct competition with the MD (genesis) and SFC (SNES) rather than the puny NES or master system, even it came out much before the two. and believe it or not, it has proven itself to be superior in many territories as well.

you will find it out by yourself fast enough :)

Welcome!

I'm not familiar with the US side of things as I collect for the PC Engine so there may or may not be US equivalents of these games, titles will probably differ too, but here's a small list of some puzzle games to try:

Tricky
Klax
Panic Bomber
Lemmings
Battle Lode Runner
Lode Runner - Lost Labyrinth
Blodia
Columns
Be Ball
Builderland
Sokoban World
Circus Lido
Skweek
Spin Pair
Puzznic
Minesweeper
Splash Lake
Puyo Puyo CD
Zipang
Star Mobile
The TV Show
Color Wars
Puzzle Boy

OldRover

+1 for Splash Lake, though it's more a reflex puzzler than a straight puzzler. Another +1 for Star Mobile. Both are CD games though.
Turbo Badass Rank: Janne (6 of 12 clears)
Conquered so far: Sinistron, Violent Soldier, Tatsujin, Super Raiden, Shape Shifter, Rayxanber II

VestCunt

Do you have a CD player or just a TG16? Can you play imports?

If you just have a TG16, go for Boxy Boy (1 meg power!) and Chew Man Fu. You can't beat little people pushing things around. If you need a real challenge, Tricky Kick is hard as nails. If you want to go back to 1983, try Time Ball.
I'm a cunt, always was. Topic Adjourned.

Arkhan Asylum

You definitely want Parasol Stars.  It's not totally puzzley, but its still sweet.

and Circus Lido.

This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

Issun

I don't know if it qualifies as a pure puzzler but Cratermaze is a fun game with some puzzle elements.

Nando

There are some great modders here that can help you get your TG16 playing PCE games. I most definitely recommend doing this.

Everyone else has pretty much covered the games.

turboswimbz

I'll say +1 to BOXY BOY and TRICKY KICK.  conquer them you must.
NW: Hey, I made it on this psycho's Enemies' List, how about that ?? ;)
BT: Look at how the fake SFII' carts instantly sold out and were immediately listed on eBay before the flippers even took possession. Look at Nintendo's overpriced bricks. Look at the typical forum discussions elsewhere. You can't tell most retro gamers anything!

Nec.Gamer.Girl

thanks for all the welcomes and info guys. I need to start looking for as many of these games as I can find. Time to do some early Christmas shopping for myself. The Obey chip is already ordered and on the way so I can play PCE games soon .

Senshi

Lemmings using the mouse is a favorite of mine.
PSN: Dynastic_Hero
Steam: Dynastic_Hero

bartre

If you feel they count, the bomberman games, as well as BATMAN are all fantastic.

esteban

There are some horrible puzzlers (Drop Rock, Baby Jo) to avoid.

I heartily recommend HATRIS. Once you have mastered HATRIS, move on to the sequel:

I was going to say batman but I didn't feel it belonged in that category.. Its more a cat n' mouse (pac man) game, still everyone should play it - its a great game!

Tatsujin

Baby jo is a puzzl0r? When did that happen? :P

PCE fans have been puzzled by the very existence of Baby Jo  :pcgs:

Welcome aboard!

Another +1 for boxyboy, very nice music. for PCE you may enjoy Doraemon Daisakusen and Batman which are action puzzlers. VolfieV is another action puzzler that looks cool, though I have not tried it.

TheClash603

People are probably sick of me saying this every time there is a thread where it is appropriate (and many times when it isn't appropriate), but SPLASH LAKE RULES!!  I love this game, one of my favorites on the system.  Also, it can be routinely found for $20 or less.

Chew Man Fu was pretty enjoyable too, but that's only after you beat Splash Lake several times.

Seconding Batman.  Absolutely not what I was expecting from the title but I certainly enjoyed playing it.
Current want list:  Bomberman 93

Woot!  Hatris is getting some love!

I also dig Implode, Columns, Splash Lake (kinda puzzley), Mine Sweeper, Star Mobile, Puyo Puyo, Panic Bomber, and Bazaru de Gozaru.

So Hatris is good? I've always found it to be a lame Tetris clone. What distinguishes the game from other puzzle games?

It is to me - probably because it's one of the few Turbob puzzlers that don't require much strategy in setting up combos, so you can just zone out (like in Tetris).

Quote from: Damon Plus on 11/20/2012, 03:08 PMI've always found it to be a lame Tetris clone.
Yep, pretty much.

Umm... it has hats?

It's really not all that great of a puzzler and definitely shouldn't be picked up until you've acquired the good ones, but it's still fun.  For any falling brick game fans, it's certainly worth the meager entry fee.

I've always been a big fan of Panic Bomber.  How many other Dr. Mario/Tetris falling block games allows for 5 player party mode?  ;)

I haven't spent more than a few minutes with it a decade ago. I am easily amused so I mock it without giving it another chance.
