12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Gents,

I have entered the world of Dreamcast recently and would like to pick up a few games.  Here's what I'm looking for for now:

Shenmue
Sonic Adventure 2
Marvel vs Capcom
Sword of the Berserk
Blue Stinger
Skies of Arcadia
Evolution: the World of Sacred Device
Armada
Shadow man
Legacy of Kain

I would like to pay average ebay prices -10% (i'm assuming the majority of the risk and there is no fee for this sale).  Im also willing to trade mod work such as recaps, region, and component video for our beloved PC Engine, but I can also do work on other consoles.  I recently did a Hi Def NES that turned out most excellent.

Let me know if you have anything I am looking for.

-dan

Edit:  marked 4 off the list.  thanks!

Gypsy

I have a pretty good condition Ikaruga. $60.

schweaty

I can do that.  One off the list!

BigusSchmuck

I have a Dreamcast RF adapter. lol Most of my DC games are burned anyway..

Good list of games.  You might want to try a few on booties before spending a lot of cash.  Like Silver, Armada, Shadow Man.   Evolution (1 & 2) were tons of fun...

exodus

I'm inheriting a large collection, so will likely wind up with a bunch of doubles - but I'm not sure *when* I'm getting it because the guy is busy! I'll be back on the forum with my findings when I know what I've got.

You didn't ask, but I'm gonna give you my thoughts on the games, and suggest a couple others.
I'll go through my trade box this week and see if i have anything you're wanting.
Quote from: schweaty on 06/22/2017, 06:36 PMShenmue - A+, one of my favorite experiences ever.
Sonic Adventure 2 - B, the last good sonic game until Sonic Colors came around.
Marvel vs Capcom - B, the mainline Vs. titles never really did it for me, but it's a fantastic port.
Sword of the Berserk - C+/B-, I'm glad it exists, but it has some problems. The level design often doesn't work with the playstyle of the game, your sword bounces off walls, but many levels are in tunnels or narrow alleys.
Blue Stinger - C, I get what it was going for, but it mostly feels rushed/unfinished.
Skies of Arcadia - C, I couldn't do it. I love the concept, but something about it just rubs me the wrong way.
Evolution: the World of Sacred Device - D, Play Grandia II instead.
Armada - C+, it's good, but Bang! Gunship elite was better for me, but that might just be my old wing commander influence.
Shadow man - C-, i always get the feeling that this game exists for the sake of being a violent game, and the controls always bothered me.
Capcom vs. SNK - The first Vs. game I could really get into. I like the focus on spacing/mechanics rather than long combos
Disney's Donald Duck Goin' Quackers - the best Crash Bandicoot clone
E.G.G. (Elemental Gimmick Gear) - It really reminds me of secret of mana, so that's worth a recommendation on its own.
Grandia II - Play this instead of evolution 1/2
Illbleed - Haunted house simulator with some real goofy mechanics, story, and logic. it's worth the experience.
Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver - Did everything Shadow man tried to, but much better
Maken X - generally melee focused FPS with character designs by the guy who does it for the shin megami tensei series, it's a good time
Slave Zero - Makes me feel like Robot Hulk. that's a good thing.
Spawn - kinda falls in between Power stone and unreal tournament with a nice violent skin.
Star Wars: Episode I Racer - Best racer on the system.
Vigilante 8: 2nd Offense - Best Twisted Metal Game until Black came out.

o.pwuaioc

There's a healthy aftermarket scene, too. Gunlord is a tough Turrican clone, and Sturmwind is one of my favorite shooters on the system---I just love the atmosphere.

Some people really like the NGDev games, but I've never been in love with them. There's Neo XYX, Fast Striker, and Pink Bullets. They're OK, but they didn't make my keep list after paring down. I have the latter two for sale, if you're interested (just sold the former).

Besides what bartre listed and Last Monkey quoted, consider Tokyo Extreme Racer, Hydro Thunder, Border Down, Under Defeat, and Outrigger.

Gypsy

I like Capcom vs SNK 2 a lot better than the first.

About Under Defeat, yeah it's a solid shooter. It's also about $25 for a UK PS3 copy so if you aren't pirating that's really the way to go.

My recommendations that haven't been mentioned yet

Fighting
Last Blade 2
Mark of the Wolves
KoF 98
KoF 02
Guilty Gear X
Fire ProWrestling D

Shootun
Giga Wing 1/2
Mars Matrix
Bangai-O
Rez

Puzzle
Mr. Driller
Puyo Puyo Fever (much cheaper on Gamecube tho)

Other
Jet Set Radio
Napple Tale: Arsia in Daydream
Shenmue II (you are already getting the first one so yea)

I will definitely second Tokyo Extreme Racer as well, I believe that's the one I'm thinking of. I mostly have imports so I know it as Shutoko Battle.

you're right, i didnt ask, but i should have.  im a novice in the dreamcast game and i shouldve asked the pros.  thanks for all the inputs guys.

a few thoughts:  i have grandia II and as far as I can tell looks like one of the best rpgs on the dc.  if i can set aside the time to dive into it, i'm sure i will appreciate it.  E.G.G. looks incredible, but its also looking pricey.  if i could find it at the right price, i will make it happen, but i might have to settle for a burned copy.  not sure how i missed legacy of kain in my research, but it looks just as you said and i am putting it on the list.  i definitely agree on gunship.  as a matter of fact, the first thing i thought while looking at gameplay was wing commander.  im also a big fan of wc.  i played it a lot in high school on the snes.  my favorite version is the sega cd.  i loved pod racer on n64.  i should give it a shot on the dc.

keep the inputs coming, gents!

Gypsy

It's not a high bar especially if we are talking about localized JRPGs but I'd have Grandia II behind Skies of Arcadia in the number two spot.

The entire Legacy of Kain series should be on PC if you'd like control continuity. Also Wind Commander is great on PC.

fuck, E.G.G. got expensive?
god dammit.

I *might* have a spare fucky copy, I'll let you know.

Gypsy

Yeah it did. I bought it a long ass time ago and played through it. It was alright. I let it go for I think around $60-70 in trade value, no idea what it goes for now but probably at least that, since old things generally don't go down in price anymore because derp.

E.G.G. was one of the games that sat unsold at my TRU and got marked down to nothing...  Along with Quake III and Urban Chaos...   Funny how these things rebound.

exodus

yeah, EGG can get up there in price! It's one of those games I used to own but traded in for something else, and now regret!!

schweaty

Mad stupid retarded props to my man gypsy for the crispy as all get out copy of ikaruga!

Gypsy

Right on. Hope you enjoy it and glad to hear you were happy with the packaging. Didn't want to send a $60+ game in a bubble mailer and risk it getting crushed.
