I want to put upload some game movies to youtube. I don't have a hardware capture card and I don't plan on buying one anytime soon. Besides the games I want to record are on emulators only. I have recently uploaded to 2 movies to youtube, but I'm unsatisfied with the results. The movies were captured with Hypercam, a software screen recorder, and I used it to record gamplay from a PC-88 emulator. The movies ended up decent, but thought I could do better. Anyone have suggestion about another good screen recorder besides Hypercam?

Also is there any interest in watching movies of games from the FM-Towns system?

I don't know of any good software to use (I've tried using SnagIt for this once, and well... you can see the ugly result here ) , but I would love to see any FM Towns footage!

Forget SnagIt and Camtasia.
I can definitely help anyone on that, lately my agenda was putting arcade videos on Youtube. There are emulators that already have AVI recording feature built into them like SNES9x, Final Burn Alpha Plus, and FCEUltra. But if you want to use MAME, get MAME32FX and FRAPS.

Here's a good place to start.

Absofuckinglutely!  :D You use YouTube to expose this under the radar gaming stuff, if not too many people respond to it, your effort is still not in vain.

Goodness gracious, yes! I'd love to see movies from any Japanese PC platform, including FM-Towns. I say: yes, yes, yes. :)

Okay some FM-Towns movies are on youtube now. Check here on this thread.

I'm now using a program called Fraps. Way better than Hypercam IMO.

PCEngineHell

I used to use Fraps for benchmarking games in real time, untill after about 4 weeks of testing I found Fraps was hindering games because it was sucking up too many cpu cycles. It was really noticed during testing stuff like GTA 3 for pc and Serious Sam Second Encounter with Voodoo 5 cards.

I got back into making video for youtube, and the videos I posted with fast scrolling are all blurry. I encoded my videos to xvid w/ virtualdub and they look clean, it's only when I upload them to youtube they look all blurred. Anyone know some tips or better codec to encoding fast gameplay videos that doesn't become blurry on youtube?
