12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

Just a funny little article comparing old games to new.  Obviously a big difference in graphics, but gameplay.....

New games look better, but they also generally look a lot more boring to me. Well, it depends on the genre of course. Old racing and FPS games are junk. These genres are just getting better and better for each year.
Quote from: Seldane on 04/21/2007, 07:28 PMDVDs are for suckers. Illegally pirated and stolen videos all the way. No menus. No "DO NOT PIRATE THIS!" screens. No fuss. Only perfection. I honestly only pirate movies because that "don't pirate this" screen annoys me.

I was severely disappointed with the previous generation of video games, with the exception of Dreamcast when it's online servers were active. I can't say there is one game I have played from that generation that I really thought was outstanding. There were a few great games, some good games, and a whole lotta bad games. I think this is one of the main reasons why I am supporting the Wii because it's trying to take a different direction from the last generation while 360 and PS3 games seem no different than the last generation to me.

And as far as graphics go, I don't think they are better than older games from an artistic standpoint, mostly because I find CG to keep exagerrating itself these days trying to be so realistic that it's actually becomming less realisitic in a way. In a tecnical standpoint, of course they are better :D , but I'd rather have the graphics be more like an art form than a realism form.

Retro games are fantastic. Simplistic, original, style-ish, inexpensive (these days at least), challenging, and of course, fun :) .

They just tend to look more 3D. I'm a big fan of hand drawn sprites: it's an art that is slowly dying. Modern games can be great; but it's also difficult to compare them to the old stuff.

Ya I agree there was a time that current gen system's just didnt do anything for me.. and yes the Dreamcast and Saturn were the last systems that really had that gaming magic..

I was underwhelmed with ps2, xbox and gamecube...

but the 360's games are just giving me the gaming buzz I need now and there's always the pc engine and saturn catalogue for me to fall back on now *hugs pc engine*

I think the next gen consoles are becoming less of consoles and more like pc's. Alot of the games on them are already on pc. and these systems even use nvidia and ati cards. Its kinda funny if you think about it. Now with the built in web browsers, downloading and mp3 players, its getting hard to tell the difference. Thats why I love my Turbo and all of its classics  :D.

The main difference for me is that awesome old school games you can go back and play again and again because they don't require huge investments of time (even the RPGs weren't anywhere near as complicated and time consuming), where new games like Quake IV, Okami, Resident Evil 4 (for example, just naming some recent games I played and loved) are fucking AWESOME and super addicting the first time through, but I'm never going to replay them as long as I live.

So games are just as good now, but different.
