Does anyone know what the myriad of menus in this damn game say? It's impossible to play it without at least knowing wtf to do.

On a related note... wow, the scrolling in this looks like absolute shit... kind of like Ys, but worse. Too bad too, as the sprites are awesome.

I'm in the same boat too, but I'm half tempted to get rid of it due to having far too much Japanese and quite literally no faqs for it. I do however, like the day and night monsters...

I have handwritten notes on the menus somewhere.  If I can find them, I'll be happy to type them up and post them here.

There's a walkthrough here (scroll down past the review):

It's not the most detailed document in the world, but it should be better than nothing.

Hey thanks a lot! Something is better than nothing!

That mini-walkthrough on TBD pretty much is nothing in this case, unfortunately... it's no help at all for figuring out the basics of how to play. The only reason I'm even gonna attempt this game is because it's part of the twelve challenges.

What are the other 11? I got mine through that 7 lot that included Dracula X.

little bit OT. I meat met a person few weeks ago, and while we did some game chit-chat, he asked me if I know the game last armageddon? I then replied him with a yes, and that I own it on the PC Engine. then he told me that he had designed all the graphics of last armageddon for the PC-88 version back in his college years. he still has the whole stack of floppies at home, which containing all the raw drawings :)

I sent a PM to you guys.  LA's menu system is really convoluted, and my notes were quite messy (not to mention from like five or six years ago), but hopefully they'll be of some use.

Wow, that's cool!

On a side note, why is Might & Magic 3 on that badass list?  I've beaten it on real hardware, so, no cheating....& I usually suck at games!  Seriously though, I guess I did figure out an exploit that made it easier, so.....does that make me potential badass? :D  Honestly, I think Wicked Phenmenom should be on there, but, then again, I did beat that one as well, so that might not be quite challenging enough.

WP isn't on there because... it isn't hard. :) Anyone who pays attention and doesn't try to blunder through the last dungeon can clear it with ease. M&M3 is likely on there because it's an immense game that many people could not complete due to its size.

Okay, here me on this one. The ultimate face-off, Demons vs Robots. I know the NES game has alot of the graphics and sounds stripped from it. The game has Robot esque music, A sweet 1970's soundtrack. This game had a lot of love put into, it.

Remember in FFVII/VI when you had to fight a guardian creature. Like the one that made Shinra step back, for a moment, or blew him away.
In the NES game their are stadiums, where you fight a random enemy, but the PCE game has an small intro, where you fight a guardian, which you must be powerful enough to fight.

Dying is okay, because the force that keeps you alive, can revive you but dying and losing all your characters on the field yeilds an extra sad
ending, of the smallest/youngest ( like the guy who gets eaten/ turned into fairies in SOTBeserk ) demon, being slayed.

I wonder how the PC88 series of this game turns out, being the original, in comparison to the "War of the dead".

Got the game yesterday in the mail.

Tried it for few hours and kind of like it.  I'm still working my way with the menus and also trying to figure why my group of monster changed ! I was level 4 and a second later all my team was changed for new monster at level 1 in a very bad place on the map for that !

Anyway have a friend at work trying to find a chinese translation so he can translate it in english for me after. I'll let you know if he find something.

There are three groups of monsters, and you don't have control over when they're swapped in and out.  After a certain amount of time (I believe it's every twelve hours, but it's been a while and I don't remember for sure), the Orc-Skeleton-Snake-Harpy group and the Gargoyle-Goblin-Cyclops-Slime group are swapped.  The Golem-Minotaur-Dragon-Sphinx group appears the first day of each month.

Thanks for the info. Is there any time limit ? If no i will have the time pass faster so i can get my first team back in order to limit the leveling up time !

I can't say for sure that there isn't a time limit, but I've played through the game twice and time never ran out on me.  Looking through my last set of screenshots, there's one where I was in the final dungeon and the date was 8/5...  so I guess you have at least until August.  :)

I highly recommend leveling up all three parties as soon as you can.  There are spots where leveling can be accomplished pretty quickly (see my guide linked to earlier in the thread).  I also recommend figuring out as soon as possible which creatures in your parties can attack all of the enemies at once.  It'll save you a lot of time and allow some of your creatures to level up and become extremely powerful quite quickly.

I can send you a PM with the notes I sent the other guys about the menus if you'd like.  These were based on messy notes I wrote down on a piece of paper years ago when I first played through the game and was just trying to gain my bearings, so I don't know how helpful or accurate they'll be, but they might be better than nothing.

Please that would be better than nothing. All i need to know is how to cure, buy stuf (found that one), use magic etc.

Thanks for the help

Thanks for the menus... played few hours last night. 2 boss down and almost all my monster are level 5 -6. I'm enjoying the game for now. I'll see if i'll enjoy it till the end !
