12/23/2024: Localization News - Team Innocent

PC-FX Localization for Team Innocent is released, a pre-Christmas gift!! In a twist, it feels like the NEC PC-FX got more attention in 2024 than any other time I can remember! Caveat: The localizers consider the "v0.9" patch a BETA as it still faces technical hurdles to eventually subtitle the FMV scenes, but they consider it very much playable.

I'm interested in getting a Turbo Duo. I have been checking on Ebay and the price differences between the US Turbo and the JP Turbo are night and day. So here is my question, can I somehow mod a JP Turbo Duo to play US games on it? I know that the CD's are region free but the cards are not. So if anyone has an answer or can do this for me I would be grateful.

Yep, you could have one of the numerous awesome modders here do it for you.  I've personally had great experiences with Keith Courage, thesteve, BlueBMW, and chop5, though there are others that have been around awhile and are trustworthy and do quality work.

EDIT: ... such as Apolloboy!

Yes you can, I'd suggest using the Obey chip made by our own BlueBMW and thesteve, I've modded several systems using it and it's much better than an 8PDT switch.

What makes the Obey Chip so much better?

BlueBMW

Its small, doesnt require a massive switch to be installed (the 8PDT switches are HUGE), and it has low internal resistance for better reliability, though you occasionally run into compatibility problems with some of the various flash cards.

Awesome! I will have to ask someone to help me with this when the times comes.

Nobody has reported compatibility issues between the Obey and the Everdrive have they?

I use my Turbo Everdrive all the time on my region modded TG-16 and Duo-R and I haven't encountered a single issue as of yet.

I just recently got out of the modding/repair game unfortunately.

I have one of BlueBMWs region boards in my Duo.  Very nice, and no issues with my Turbo Everdrive.

The only setup I encounter with issue using the everdrive is my region modded pce/ifu.
Turbo fan since 1991 after owning my first system.
