Dreamcast Upside Down Fix Alternative?

Hey everyone,

A few days ago I managed to get a Dreamcast and a copy of Shenmue!
Unfortunately, I had to adjust the laser a lot before the game actually managed to work, and whenever it did, it froze.   
Thanks to a cheap trick though, turning the system upside-down gets rid of freezing! However, I do not want to damage the system incase, and flipping it back over to put in new games would be obnoxious. Is there perhaps an alternative solution to this fix? Thanks.

Try a new laser. They can be purchased on ebay and elsewhere.
