So, we decided to ignore the critics & hate on The Lone Ranger, & just got out from seeing it.  From the get-go I could tell that it was a good movie, & all thruout I enjoyed it!  I'm not saying it's perfect, or that everybody would love it, as tastes differ, but, man, I'm flabbergasted as to how so many people can rip that movie apart!  I would like to see it again, & I'd love for it to be a series, but with how poorly it's doing, I don't see any way that'll happen, unless dvd sales go thru the roof!  I think it's even doing poorly internationally as well.

It's surprising how people will just listen to critics, & not judge for themselves.  I know we don't all have money to go see every movie that comes out, but you'd atleast think that all the Johnny Depp fans would come out of the woodworks to watch it for him alone.  We all thought the actors did a great job, it has some 'Pirates' feel to it, which is fine with me, as I enjoy the Pirates movies as well.

So, in conclusion, if anyone reads this, & goes out to see the movie, & hates it....I'll deny I ever said it was great! :D  Seriously though, see a matinee if you want, we really enjoyed it!

To voice the other side of the coin...  :D

I hadn't heard/read/watched anything about the movie before going to see it and I was extremely disappointed in it.  I was embarrassed to be there.  I've lost faith in Disney.

I grew up watching old reruns of The Lone Ranger. This movie was nothing like like that. Except for maybe the final 20 minutes.  The rest, imo, was Gore creating over-the-top, jump-the-shark special effect spectaculars.  And it was way gory.  No way I'd bring my kid to it.

It really should have been titled "Tonto and Some Guy".

I went to see it because of Depp.  I dig most of his movies and enjoyed the first couple of Pirates movies, and will probably rent the other Ranger flicks just to watch his character (which is a good character for him), but it didn't capture the spirit of the Lone Ranger to me.  :?

Interesting.  I admit, my memory is shaky on the old Lone Ranger tv series.  I did watch it as a kid, but, it's not like I grew up with it like my dad did!  So I'm probably not as tied to nostalgia as you.  However, hearing the William Tell Overture....that gave me a great feeling.  Didn't bring back any specific memories, but it just felt...cool to hear it in the movie.

I wouldn't bring a kid myself.  I never really thought it was gory, but it was violent.  I felt though that it was less violent & gory then the Pirates movies.  I'm not a fan of violence or gore in a general sense, but I know most movies have it, so I guess I just put up with it, or even ignore it as if it isn't there.  The only gory thing I can think of, had to do with Butch & what he's into, & even then, they didn't show it, they just suggested it(thankfully).

As for LR & Tonto, we all felt they had equal time onscreen, rather then one being more prominent then the other.  As for Disney, I don't like most stuff they come out with these days, but I did enjoy this & would see it again.  I liked the "jump the shark" stuff, but, like I said, my memory is fuzzy on the old show.  So, adding in the humor thruout for me was great, I felt like it had the right amount, but capturing the spirit of the Lone Ranger, that's just not something that in me due to my lack of memory. :?

It's all good! :D  We both obey.

SPOILER ALERT: When I was a kid and saw The Temple of Doom and saw some guy eating a beating heart...  that fucked me up.  The heart-eating scene in this movie was way worse, imo.  That alone turned me off of the movie.

But that's probably because I have a 5yr old and really wished we could enjoy the spirit of the Lone Ranger together on the big screen.

Should have just called it Pirates of the Caribbean 4.5.

I don't know where you get the idea that people listen to critics and avoid movies because of it. Most movie goers don't even know there is such a thing as a movie critic. Some of the most poorly rated movies are some of the most successful. Those horrible live action Transformers movies, the Fast series...Showgirls.

Transformers 2 has a %20 rating on Rotten Tomatoes and I've never met a person who would say anything nice about it, yet it grossed $400 million.

People are probably avoiding the Lone Ranger because this isn't 1958. Nobody gives a shit about cowboys anymore.

Seems like most the people I've talked to about it, have heard "the buzz" that it's terrible, so all I can guess is the critics & news media talking about how the critics hated it.  Man, Transformers 2 was so flippin' terrible(I too know not a soul who even remotely enjoyed that movie, it boggles the mind), I know not what to expect from TF4 other then more crap, but I'll still see it in the ultra slim chance of it being decent.  I tried watching TF3 recently.  I thought I remembered thinking it was ok, but both my wife & I had a hard time watching it.  She gave up, but I pushed myself thru the movie.:P  Man, & the Fast movies, I've never touched em', I just can't get myself to even try on those, & don't get me started on Showgirls!

It's funny, when I was a teenager, I didn't really care much for cowboy movies, but for some reason in the last 5 or so years, I've gotten into them.  I've watched some of the old Eastwood movies.  I think part of it is the music in those old westerns.  This movie had some of that music, though not tons.

Everyone has there tastes, so I don't expect any one thing to be embraced 100%, but I still can't get the hate on LR.  Seems like most the people I run into never saw it, but say it sucked.  Then again, I love movies like Kung Pow that get crazy hate, so, whatever. :D

Holy sheet I love this movie. And like everyone I know that's seen it loves it too.

Still haven't seen this one.  I've seen nearly every episode of the original series, and I'm skeptical of this new Lone Ranger.  Depp is not a supporting character, but is playing a role that should be a supporting role.  My anticipation is that kids who have no clue of the original will enjoy it.

Duo_R

I dont really want to see this because of Depp. it should have been a Taunto film if they put someone as high profile for the role.

Did anyone remember the old Lone Ranger movie? I remember digging that as a kid never watched the TV series.
