They should should not exist, just read the reviews, watch the videos, spend time and judge for yourself.

As a result games would be better, there won't be a need to water down anything.

I totally agree.

I also despise "aggregate" scores that simply average all the published scores (from various sources) to create a new, totally lame metric that is even more useless than the original scores.

I disagree and think that while by no means are all game journalists as knowledgeable as most hardcore fans, most of them are and that aggregate scores while not necessarily the final word on any games quality can definitely be helpful in determining a great game from a decent or bad game, especially with modern games where the aggregate sites have a large pool of reviews to draw from.

What kind of ratings we talkin' 'boot here?  ESRB or 'professional' reviews?

I don't mind ESRB ratings for parents that don't want to put the effort into thorough inspections of each game their kid(s) want, but I don't like how expensive it is nor how it's essentially mandatory.  Fuck monopolies.

As for review ratings, I don't see anything wrong with 'em if they're included with a full review, screenshots, etc.  Standing alone or aggregated together, they're nigh useless as there's too many variables being ignored when you have just a number to look at.

Video game review ratings are usually stupid because the reviewer is stupid.
This "max-level forum psycho" () destroyed TWO PC Engine groups in rage: one by Aaron Lambert on Facebook "Because Chris 'Shadowland' Runyon!," then the other by Aaron Nanto "Because Le NightWolve!" Him and PCE Aarons don't have a good track record together... Both times he blamed the Aarons in a "Look-what-you-made-us-do?!" manner, never himself nor his deranged, destructive, toxic turbo troll gang!

^This.  These so called "journalists" have lost perspective.  Too many a times I have played a game they thought was the best shit ever only to find out it sucked.  I remember when Silent Hill 2 came out.  EGM took a giant shit on it so much they had to re-view it.

Street Fighter Alpha for Saturn "plays better" but is 10% worse than the PSX version because the shadows are high color blue translucencies instead of low color blue palettes.

Haha!  Ah good ol' Die Hard Gamefan.  They were pro's.  Haha!  Still loved the mag though.  Always will.

I don't think I've ever paid attention to a reviewer's 1-10 score or watched a Youtube review with the volume on. Fuck, I'd rather shoot myself in the ear. I like AVGN, but it's comedy, not criticism. I watch Gamesack because it's a TV show about classic video games, not so much for the reviews.

If I'm actually researching a game, I skim a handful of sites for people with literacy and watch long-play videos. A good writer is 5000x more coherent than anyone on Youtube.
I'm a cunt, always was. Topic Adjourned.

Silent Hill 2 gets a 3/10 for being on Playstation.... A Saturn release would have surely gotten a 9/10.  ;)
