Gawd I always wanted to do this so badly!

I know there's already a Youtube thread, but I think this deserves its own thread.

I noticed on Youtube, there hasn't been much love for the NEC systems spread around. Sure there has, but they've been nothing but official review videos, game intros, or if anything video games they would be predominantly games EVERYBODY knows about (i.e. Nintendo, Sega, Zelda, Mario) vs. fighter matches and combo videos, and lastly, anime and random FMV sequences from random next gen RPGs put into music videos infested with J-Pop.

Somebody's gotta be sick of running into all those, no doubt about it.

I invite anyone around here with capturing equipment to join me so I can start a movement to expose these niche masterpieces of classic gaming. Record yourselves playing your favorite games and put it out to the whole planet, whether it'd be on the TG/PCE, Duo, Supergrafx, or even the PCFX.

UPDATE: Footage of other Japanese obscure games on Famicom, Super Famicom, Mega Drive, FM Towns is welcome as well.

That's awesome, I can't wait to see all your other videos of PCE and SFC playing! By the way, I loved how you were trying to run to the finish before getting hit by that flying head at the end of stage 2, too bad he caught up with you

. You should make your own online-based video game show where you just record yourself playing games and review it while you play, like RetroCore .

I did a quick one of Ai Cho Aniki level 1

The camera autofocus screws it up a little in places but hopefully I can fiddle with it for any future vids.

the 2nd level where you have to keep going forward to avoid the molten lava thats chasing you while fighting off the undead demons is soooo annoying in that Samurai Ghost >__<

Wow I should start sticking up stuff on that youtube too soon but I need a larger SD card for my camera in order to get some video footage

Oh yeah not that it matters, but when you post your gameplay vids on youtube, put the location of where the video was recorded. I personally find it interesting seeing the game in action half a world away.

I like thinking stuff like, "wow this guy in Germany is good at Bonk" or this guy in England is good at Kaze Kiri" etc

Well despite the potential, SFZ (at least in its unfinished state) is pretty poor, which is a shame as it's the perfect mixture for a great game.

It's funny that the guy who put up the Ghouls n' Ghosts Supergrafx video felt the need to write a page long rant about its inferiority to the arcade.

At the Digital Press forums, he pissed off alot of people in a Ghouls n Ghosts tribute thread about the "arcade perfect" issue. I think he got banned for it too.

Then he took that shit to Neo-Geo.com. Thankfully a member exposed him and they flamed the hell out of AirRaid before he had his chance to strike.

Up till the supergrafx port that was the only version around that was closest to arcade (before 32bit moved in) and not many people then had access to arcade machine or emulation (OR could afford importing a X68000) so many people couldn't have made a direct screen to screen comparison.. Even if graphically its not 100% arcade perfect playability wise it is!

He's been showing SGX pics through magic engine but that outputs graphics and colours differently on a pc monitor than SGX hooked up to a normal TV.................... So it would look different..

I don't understand why he can't flame the Genesis version since at that time it came out many press had deemed that to be arcade perfect.

You know I've always wished that NEC Avenue (or any other good games company) shoulda did a port of Gnost N' Goblins for the PCE >___<

anyway back to the thread: there was a tokemeki memorial intro for the PCE on youtube. I love that!!!

Yes, exactly! I made very similar points when I responded to him (I didn't know about real vs. emulated SGX output, though), but I don't think he ever replied to my post (and I tried to be delicate so I wouldn't hurt his feelings!). Ultimately, though, I'm glad he posted here because it was entertaining and I like to see all the nuances between different versions of the same game.

Now, I can't wait to check out the DP forum link that Ninja posted

I totally agree with that airraid guy, he rocked the FACE off that one guy GhoulsNGhosts and all GnG could say is "oh your post count is small, that's your opinion, blah blah I'm a faggot". That was hilarious stuff.

On a side note, good god those people on that digital press forum are probably the biggest hive of nerds I've ever come across on the internet.

I still can't get past the first level! For some reason, I cannot enter that cave; is there a specific way to do it? I tried all sorts of button combinations and it just won't let me enter! I can't find any keys anywhere in the level and I even did everything you did in your video and it still won't work

. What is going on!?!?

On cave doors, you haven't held "up" long enough, it's really weird because there's a window of delay before the screen fades. You'll automatically run into the key in stage 1. The quality of the video made it a little ambiguous.
