Chromanticore seems like it would work well in a deck with Prophet of Kruphix. I had some spectators laughing about my board state at last week's FNM when I had Prophet of Kruphix, Mercurial Chemister, Aetherling, Zhur-Taa Druid, and Ral Zarek on the battlefield. I had just gotten 3 extra turns from Ral Zarek, drawn 4 extra cards with Mercurial Chemister, and attacked with an unblockable Aetherling while my opponent had 1 card in hand and no permanents on the battlefield except for lands...and he didn't scoop!

Yeah.... i would have extended the hand in defeat. Tomorrow my local shop is doing a Theros cycle draft (journey,born Theros) for the release of Journey into Nyx. I may buy a box tomorrow. or i may just buy a fat pack, not to sure yet. I want to buy the new kirby game, so i may just go with the fat pack

Interesting deck...  I don't know your local metagame, but here are my thoughts.


1.  Precinct Captain's double-white mana cost seems rough with only 11 non-come-into-play-tapped white sources.  Maybe there is a better creature for his slot?

2.  Because of its Legendary status, your 2 Spear of Heliod might be better served as a 1-of with 1 Hall of Triumph.

3.  You call your deck Black/White mid-range, but it looks like you're trying to be aggro, which leads to point 4.

4.  There's so much good mono-black aggro, why not splash just enough white for Athreos?  I mean, with 4 Gnarled Scarhide, 4 Rakdos Cackler, 2-4 Thoughtseize, & 4 Tormented Hero for your 1-drops; 0-4 Pack Rat, 3-4 Pain Seer & 3-4 Spiteful Returned for your 2-drops; and 4 Herald of Torment & 2-4 Master of the Feast for your 3-drops, you don't even need to run any 4-drops, so you could just run 17-18 Swamps with 4 Mutavaults for mono-black, or swap out 6-8 Swamps for Black/White mana sources to support 2 copies of Athreos.

I built a couple of decks:

1 - white/green Eidolon of Blossoms deck with all enchantments/enchantment creatures except for 1 Ajani, Caller of the Pride and 2 Ajani, Mentor of Heroes

2 - mono-black Squelching Leeches/Lilianna of the Dark Realms/Chromanticore (splash 3 Blood Crypt, 3 Godless Shrine, 3 Overgrown Tomb, 3 Watery Grave, because Lilianna can tutor up whichever color I need)

I don't really know if either of these decks are very good, so I may play my red/white/blue control deck since I've been able to get 3 of the Temple of Epiphany scry lands.

The guy that took 1st place was playing mono red aggro and got double burning tree emissary and a firefist striker out on turn 2 in game 1 while I stalled out at 2 lands. Game 2- I mulled to 5 and wiped his field twice with Anger of the Gods but he eventually got a Boros Reckoner out followed by a Fanatic of Mogis. I'll try to post my rogue homebrew deck this weekend if it performs well again tonight.

I went 3-1 with Carpet Bombers last night at FNM to win 5 packs. My only loss was to mana issues (stalled out at 2 lands in game 1 and mulled to 6 cards in game 2 then drew a land every turn). There were a lot of Selesnya and Junk decks in the meta at my local store. I had to face the new Ajani twice.

I had to work late last Friday, so I did the 8pm J/B/T Draft instead of the 6:30pm Standard.  I ended up drafting a weak Black/Green deck.  I still ended up going 3-1 and won 2 packs, so it wasn't a complete waste, but even the rares were pathetic.  The best rare that I saw was Anax & Cymede, and I passed it.

What to play..., what to play... for tonight's FNM?

Well, for Game Day last Saturday, I pulled out my old black-with-a-splash-of-blue Dimir deck and went 3-0 for the first 3 rounds before losing the last 2 rounds to end 3-2.

Took first place in Draft this week at FNM with a red/green aggro deck. 
Some highlights of the deck were:
3 Satyr Hoplights
1 6th pick foil Satyr Firedrinker
1 Fanatic of Xenagos - This card won the most games for me.
1 Xenagos the Reveler
0 Golden Hinds - I never saw any.   
My main board only had two 4-drops: Anvilwrought Raptor & Xenagos the Reveler.  Everything else was 1 to 3-drops.
One game, I used a Karametra's Favor imbued Satyr Hoplight to add white mana to my mana pool so as to be able to sacrifice my Priest of Iroas to destroy a big bad enchanted enchantment creature.

I'm still trying to figure out Lore Seeker.  It adds a pack to the draft.  I completely understand the mechanics, but the question is who pays for the extra pack?  Since this format is non sanctioned, and prizes will be difficult to assign, since any 2-3 players should be able to knock any other single player out of the game, figuring out how to pay for extra Lore Seeker packs and who pays for them is quite confusing to me.  It anyone has any ideas, please enlighten me.

I am hoping that they have a rules insert in the box to elaborate on stuff like that (haven't checked the Wizards site yet to see if there is an FAQ). We'll probably make up our own "house rules" when we draft at my buddy's house tomorrow but when I go to local stores on Saturday & Sunday, they will need to be ready for those questions.

My local store said that the Conspiracy drafts are all 'casual' games, or non-sanctioned, and so, while their rules guy will gladly oversee pods who want to play, the interaction on things like this will all be between the players.

An interesting question is, since most out-of-print booster packs are more expensive, I assume that most of the time Lore Seeker comes out, people will only be adding Conspiracy packs and/or packs currently in Standard to the draft...  Another thought is that since this is for casual play, maybe some people will be adding Unglued/Unhinged packs into the draft.

I was only able to play in one 'flight' of the Prerelease.  I choose white and went 2-1 in three rounds - got totally mana-messed over in both games of my loss.

We had 40+ people in my 80-person flight choose black, and the store ran out...

I played in 5 flights...got 1st place in one of them and 2nd place in the other 4 flights. Chose Black in the first flight (pulled Liliana Vess). Red in the 2 Headed Giant flight (pulled Soul of Ravnica and Soul of Shandalar). Black again in the third flight (pulled Soul of Zendikar) took 1st place in this one with a Black/Green build that splashed Red for Burning Anger (so good!). Chose White for the 4th flight (pulled Nissa Worldwaker but couldn't play her since my card pool didn't support Green very well). Planned to play Green for the 5th flight but there weren't any left so I had a choice between Red or Blue so I went with Red again since Blue seemed very meh.

I just unearthed my box o' Magic Cards that had been in storage for the better part of 18 years...I'll probably be selling off everything soon. Collection is mostly revised/4th and spans The Dark through Fallen Empires (with a bit of Legends floating around in there).

Checking the going rates on certain cards - it's amazing how much things have changed over the years. Cards that were impossibly sought after (Summon legends, Jester's Cap, Icy Manipulator, etc.) are now worthless, and things that were incredibly common (dual lands) seem to be selling for a mint. World's gone crazy.

The new Commander sets being mono-colored is a bad idea. They could have reprinted the filter lands but most definitely won't at this point. Not in that product, that is!

I don't hate the new layout of M15, something which bugged other people. The change from old frame to new frame was shocking to me (post-Masques), but the M15 layout change is minor.

A set I'm skipping altogether.

played my second M15 draft yesterday...went 0-3, still getting used to the set.

I'm still getting used to drafting it as well.

The first time that I drafted it, I drafted mono-blue humans with an Obelisk of Urd and the blue Paragon.  The deck actually wasn't that bad (with like 7-8 humans), but it just couldn't 'get there'.  I went 2-2, I believe.

For my 2nd time drafting M15, last week I drafted blue/black for the first 2 packs, and I probably could have had agreat deck, but for pack 3, I first-picked Chandra, and she seduced me over to red.  I drafted 7 total red cards in pack 3 to go with my 2 random red cards that I had picked up in the first 2 packs, so I ended up with 9 red cards (which were actually all playable     ).  I was very evenly split with about 10 playables in both blue and black, and like 4-5 playable artifacts.  I had a difficult time choosing which colors to play.  I REALLY wanted to play Chandra, and I had ended up with several really good red cards - Lightning Strike, Scrapyard Mongrel (with my 4-5 artifacts), and others.  I ended up going with blue, because I had a Glacial Crasher, and it's really a relevant card if Mountains are being played.  I went 2-0 for my first 2 games, then won game 1, then got majorly mana messed over in both games 2 and three.  For game 2 on the play, I kept a 5-lander on the play, since both spells were very relevant cards, but then I drew 4 more lands in a row to lose to my opponent's aggro draw.  For game 3 on the draw, I had to mulligan a no-lander to keep a 6-card, 2-lander hand.  Then, I never drew my 3rd land until turn 5 to lose again.     For Round 4, I lost game 3 to mana messover again to finish 2-2 again.  At least my consolation pack gave me a Soul of Ravnica.  I really enjoy this game, but it sure seems that there should be a way to reduce variance a little in regards to land flood/drought.

I'm hoping to play Standard this upcoming FNM, but maybe I'll draft again.

^ yeah, i find red to be the strongest in this set when it comes to drafting. I played MTGO last night and i thought i crafted a good deck(ill post it later when im home) Had resolute angel, and spectral ward, but just couldnt get the wins. Most of my games were pretty close though. I ran a W/G deck that was supposed to be aggro, but i wasn't getting the draws i needed, and without a raise the alarm, or triplicat spirits i just lost to faster decks.

Anyone play at M15 Game Day this weekend? I took 1st place at my local store with Naya Superfriends. I was surprised that the champion playmat didn't have Garruk on it. I think I'm gonna make the infinite turns shenanigans deck for next week's FNM.
