Did anyone see how much this game sold for on eBay yesterday?  :lol:The buyer must have been really really desperate or just smoking crack! Although I need the game to help complete my collection I refuse to pay $231 for that game. 2 days earlier someone sold anther copy for $69.00 which is more along the fair market price. Does anyone feel this way?

Alucard655

That dude had to be desperate..... I admit I was that guy.... please let me mockery begin. I saw that other auction for case and disc only ($69). I just enjoy these old RPGs and am willing to pay a stupid amount for a complete game. Plus sometimes I get in bidding wars and like to see how high someone else bid and usually get outbid but just ended up winning this one. Did you see the Dungeon Explorer II that same seller sold? I think it went for $320ish. That same seller had Dragon Slayer, DE2, Exile, YsIII, Valis III, Ys I&II, and Lords of Thunder for a BIN of $650... that was the better deal but they took it down and sold individually. So at least I admit I was the idiot that paid that amount so oh well. Overall, I still think I am a net positive on games. I paid $16 for Panzer Dragoon Saga new. Please let the mockery begin or at least post other stories of over priced game purchases.

Bklyn4ever

Hey, more power to you. You have the economical means to splurge and you got the item you wanted. Can't hate on you for that. I have spent a fortune trying to replace all the games I once had, but I refused to pull the trigger on that one. I just hope that doesn't affect the going price for future prices. I did see the other titles he had up for auction. I was contemplating buying the dungeon explorer 2 so that I could possibly have a title of worth to trade later on. When it got over $250 I said it wasn't worth it to me.

Bklyn4ever

Well congrats on your newest acquisition. I'm definitely envious of you. I need just a few titles to complete my collection. Dragon slayer, bomberman 93 and camp California are titles that I hope someday resurface.

Nazi NecroPhile

Ouch, you definitely took it in the shorts on that one.  Even the $70 one, which was complete according to the condition description, was about double what it can often be found at.

Hopefully you'll learn some patience and stop contributing to the overpricing problem.

NecroPhile, you're right. That's exactly why I passed on it.

Bklyn4ever

What games are us missing to complete your collection?

Alucard655

The $70 I saw was case and disc only and featured numerous scratches but played perfectly for the seller (not arguing, that was just the one I saw). Just based on past experience, I have heard that before. If you want I can post it on eBay with a BIN of the appropriate difference between the fair price and what I paid to bring the average selling price back down to the fair amount. I think the lowest we could get it based on these 3 transactions would be $100 average. Of course, I am kidding but it would work. Is there any "fair" price list out there? You know just like a rating system on rarity or a fair range of prices.

Necro, how did you know I was wearing shorts?

CrackTiger

It regularly sells for $30 - $40 complete.

The reason crooked resellers attempt to manipulate the market by buying all the copies they find of Turbo games at <legit prices and sit on them for months/years listed at ridiculous prices... is for the rare times that an insta-set collector who doesn't understand the market or how to shop for retro games, bites and gives them the return on their "investment" that they were looking for.

All Turbo/PCE games can easily be downloaded and played on real hardware. There is a fast torrent with every CD iso except hombrew releases and the Turbo Everdrive flashcart will play every rom, including the many translated PCE games.

Paying exponentially gouged prices to complete "sets" asap only brings us closer to the crash of the misguided retro game collectible market and guarentees that you will be one of the shelf-fillers who either takes a seemingly complete loss on your investment portfolio or gets stuck with a bunch of old trinkets that you won't get any use from for the remaining decades of your lifetime.

Bklyn4ever

CrackTiger, I didn't think about it on that scale, but I agree with you.

Alucard655

I do appreciate the information/advice. I acknowledge I made a mistake, consider lesson learned. Also, this was not meant as an investment, or insta-collection. I just want to play the game and enjoy it.

Investment portfolio? Doubt it. Just a guy that likes to play video games.

I have never been an ISO guy. Not to knock the use of them, I just have always wanted to have the actual cartridge/CD to play, just a weird personal thing. I like looking at the manuals, maps, and just other associated stuff that comes with the games. That Turbo Product Guide is awesome, I want some of those Turbo Shades.

xcrement5x

Good lord, I am looking for a replacement manual for my Dragon Slayer but I guess there is a reason I still to PCE games for the most part.

I'm playing through that one right now, but as soon as I complete it I will gladly sell for $200. My copy was original from childhood, the disk and manual are perfect and it includes the map!

What? No Pac Land shirt?

DS rulez. I started it up again this fall, 'bout half way through it. Can't remember how to get into the dragon dome thing.

I was "watching" this sale as I too love RPG's. Anyways, don't forget cost and value are two different things. If the "value" of this item was more to you than it's "cost" then don't be bothered. Also being honest and taking the impending mockery is admirable.

am i the only person that dislikes this game? its just a grind fest. really really short game if you take out the grinding

It's actually more of a fetch quest game.

I think that people who claim to hate grinding in 16-bit RPGs should still to digicomics. I'd compare it to people who dislike platforming in platformers, but that is unfortunately a popular opinion. Platforming is considered "8-bit".

Is that a thing, really?  If someone dislikes platforming then they should just stick to Tetris I guess.

Grinding in an RPG?!?  Crazy!!!

Excessive grinding is only required in Dragon Slayer if you try to brute force your way through bosses because you're either too stupid or too lazy to come up with effective strategies.

I was watching that Dragon Slayer like a hawk. I thought the $75 was too high already, and I was cursing at the price as it went up. Dragon Slayer is a bit like my personal must have game for the Duo. I only had a TG-16 and CD attachment back in the day, so I was always pissed I couldn't play the damn thing. Yeah the other Super CD games were cool, but this one seemed special. Especially to an RPG starved teenager. Not to mention I'm a massive falcom fan, and am slowly trying to collect all the US releases of their games here. Hope you are enjoying it. I just hope the price doesn't shoot up as a result. Turbo prices have gone insane in recent times.

And yeah, if anyone is willing to part with their copy, let me know. Can't pay the $200+ but will be willing to talk at least on a fairer price.

Luciennes Quest for 3DO comes to mind. pricewise

I've got 2 extra if you're interested. One has the manual/case/game/ back insert, no map - manual is in rough shape. Then the second is basically a loose disc but i did copy the manual cover and back insert to make it "look" like its complete on a shelf - this disc has been resurfaced and was in BAD shape before resurfacing.  Still has some scratching and works on some systems and not others. IT works on my duo/duo-r/and my Turbo CD but I took it over a friends house and it wouldn't work on his Turbo CD.  Shoot me a PM if interested.
All is well. :)

Dragon Slayer doesn't regularly sell for $200 - $300. Even $100 for DS is crazy.

About a year and a half ago I was being an idiot and sold mine on ebay for $50. No shit, if I didn't return with my tail between my legs to buy back a copy for the same price. Hold out, there's no reason to pay that much money for this game.

bishopcruz

Well, the first ridiculous BIN post auction is up. $200!

Though there was a BIN for $80 a little over a week ago. Let me thank RoyVegas again for cutting me a great deal on the game. Holy crap.

I enjoyed this game back in the day, because hey, it's a Falcom game and it has awesome music.  Even though it's basically a standard JRPG I always felt it had a different vibe then the ones on other consoles at the time.  That said, I'd probably never play through it again, but I do have the CD tracks ripped so I can listen to them every now and then.
