2/13/2025: Localization News - Cosmic Fantasy 3-4!

Rather earth-shattering news in the PC Engine / TurboGrafx-16 community: Cosmic Fantasy 3 & 4 has been officially localized to English by Edia 30 years later for the Switch! Hard to believe! I know their script quality is poor given the 1&2 port but still good to see.

I have recently purchased Crest of Wolf (original game) for use on Magic Engine but every time I boot up the game, the emulator crashes.  I tried to boot the game using Hu-Go to see if the disc was defective but it is in perfect condition and Hu-Go can play it but I do not hear any sound effects (seems the BGM is played at a very high volume).  Has anyone experienced what I have with Crest of Wolf for PCE and can tell me what I can do to fix the problem I have with using Magic Engine to play it?

1. Which version of ME
2. Which system card

segagamer

ME v1.0 pr10
System Card v3.0 (included w/ME)

Is that Magic System v3?
I've just tried it with the 'real' System Card v3 and it works fine.
I also just tried with Magic System v3 on ME 0.9 and the colours are all mucked up so that may be the problem.

Yes, the one I was referring to is Magic System v3.  So after I have downloaded the original PCE System Card v3 bios, where should I place that file so that Magic Engine will read it?  I have a folder for ME that has all the unzipped files and folders.

You can put it wherever you want, you just need to make sure that the PCE.INI files has the correct pointer to it.

For example:

# ----
# path settings
# ----
[path]
  ;
  ; system card paths
  ; --
  ;
system_card_1=c:\magicengine\system10.pce
system_card_2=c:\magicengine\system21.pce
system_card_3=c:\magicengine\syscard3.pce
system_card_4=

Cool. Be nice to report the solution to David Michel on his forum, so your open thread can be useful to others. Though it's the first time I hear the Magic System makes the emulator crash (in ME 1.0 that is).
