If you look on the Internet or in video game stores in Japan, there are tons of sealed Fatal Fury 2's everywhere, dirt cheap. Why are there so many of them? Did they overestimate demand? :-k

Then of course you have the usual super-cheap and popular RPG like any Far East of Eden/Tengai Makyou game, but at least these have usually been played to death when they originally got released.(and subsequently got sold/bought about 10 times each :))

What are some other games like this?

PunkCryborg

every pce lot has Peach Boy, Energy, Wonder Momo, F1 Circus

pulstar

Yokai Dochui (Tales from the Monster Path) seems to be everywhere as well.
My favourite pigeon had a fatal run-in with a cloud...

I think the reason why there are so many sealed Fatal Fury 2 arcade cd games out there is due to the Arcade card being released so late in the system's life.  A lot of Pc Engine owners had moved on to other more advanced systems.  My .02$.....

The Tengai Makyou games were best sellers, but they are really cheap. Kabuki Den is $3. However, they are in Japanese, so that might be why.

Genpei Toumaden was extradonarily popular, but isn't much money due to how shitty and bizarre that game is.

Seriously, whenever I play that game, I fee like I'm high or something. I don't know wtf is going on, but I roll with it for a few minutes. The sequel is definitely better.

I had  10 sealed copies of Yokai Dochui (Tales from the Monster Path) some sold for US$8/GBP5 each, some given to friends, not bad for 27 year old game, supplier had a few boxes ( probably got them from a warehouse sale in hong kong/japan), have you ever seen pc engine boxes of 10?

For FF2, besides the fact the conversion wasn't that good, I think peoples were waiting for FF Special which is something like 1000 times better, almost arcade perfect.

The successful games of the time are not the games looked after nowadays.

The most sold games were the likes of F1 Circus, F1 Circus 91, the Momotarou Densetsu and dentetsu series, the Fire Pro Wrestling series... But today, people who buy PCE stuff are not interested in those. That's why you'll see loads of them at a very low price.

Regarding Fatal Fury 2, why should have people bought this one when you already knew that Fatal Fury Special was to be released soon after ? It was a stupid move from Hudson to have done that.

I kinda like Genpei Toumaden, myself, if not for the pure weirdness and flow of the whole thing.  It's a shame it's ball-bustingly difficult.  I like the multiple gameplay views/modes a lot and I think it's crammed full of interesting stuff if you can survive long enough to see it.

I was wondering what would happen if we took the same concept and ran with it, just with American myths and characters instead.  Like Paul Bunyan and babe, etc.  I think that would definitely count for some amusement as everyone is used to Japan and China making games based around their culture and mythology all the time, but you never really see one like this for the USA.

There aren't many PCE game sales figures. :(

All I know is Tengal Makyou Manjimaru sold 1 million.
