Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie here who wants to buy a Jap Pc Engine or Coregrafx, maybe with cd-rom. (finally!)
The only thing i'm not sure about is how to connect this machine to my PAL tv. I've been looking around in this forum but i can't find the answer.
I know I can connect the coregrafx (the one with AV output) to the scart input of my tv, but i'm not so sure if i will get colours on screen.
For my PAL Playstation i had to get an RGB cable to play the JAP imports in full colour so i'm afraid i'll have this problem with the PC Engine, but then no solution because it doesn't have an RGB output.

THanks in advance for the help!

You answered your own question there. Since no PCE unit will natively output   RGB, the only solution for you to get color is to either buy a new TV which will support NTSC video in color or (preferrably) mod your system so that it WILL output RGB.

This is not a hard mod at all, and you can find the info you need here.

If you have any questions whatsoever, don't hesitate to ask. I can help you with all of this. :)

Indeed, it's AV time. Check out: IMG! Sir, the door was open.

What make/model is your TV? I have a 28" Sony Wega widescreen and have no problems running my core Grafx.

As a rule, any TV made after 1994 should accept the signal, even if it's through AV. Also SCART 1 is ALWAYS the RGB channel.

dritske

It's a JVC widescreen from '96 with 2 scart and 1 AV input.
I also have a small (cheap) tv from 2004. It has only 1 scart input. I have an adapter from my PS1 where you can put the AV cable and then connect it to the scart. Do you think it will work this way?
thanks for the fast replies! :)

Accept the signal, yes -- but it will be in black and white since he said he needed an RGB cable to play his import PS1 games in color.

Do you guys think that something like a "pal booster" could solve my problem?

And how about the 60 Hz-50 Hz problem?
When i put my PS2 games in 60Hz mode the image starts scrolling.
Probably i gotta buy a new tv just to be able to play lol

Seldane

Oh in that case it is time to buy a new TV. You can't play PCE games on it and that's final. It needs NTSC support.

I received my PC Engine with AV mod this week from Hong Kong.
Now, it's working fine on my big JVC tv, but the smaller (and newer) tv where I was planning to use it displays all the games in black and white.
Anyone have experience with Pal boosters? (analogue NTSC-->PAL converters) http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-2q-49-en-15-pal-70-1au.html
I really don't want to open the machine as I have no experience whatsoever with modding consoles.

Thanks very mucho!

I'm using this PAL booster for connecting my PC-FX to my PAL-TV. It was the cheapest and only solution, to connect it. The picture isn't that bad, if you considering the $25 you've payed. Probably it doesn't provides the type of quality a true RGB mod will do, but it's good enough to enjoy the games.

Hi,

Just as a point of interest - you could always get a PAL PCEngine.. that'd run on any TVs you throw at it. Assuming you don't want a SuperGrafx of course which are NTSC only unfortunately.  Biggest problem would be finding one though, don't think they're terribly common.

If you get a PAL PC Engine you can stick in the CDROM2 and get composite video out without the need for a mod.

(oh, BTW, first post here. Hi everybody. :) )

DC906270-BIL

what you are looking for is a TV which supports both NTSC 60Hz signals & native PAL 50Hz signals, then you can play all games native or imported no problem, either through the AV inputs at the front of the TV or the SCART inputs at the back, and you can also watch TV on it

you should check the manual of the TV before you buy, the specification should be listed in there. this will tell you if it can handle 60Hz NTSC signals OK

soco

there's a guy who sells new versions of the PAL ones on ebay all the time but they're not cheap. (i think they're like 130Euro or so) and they obviously only play the US hucards without an adapter.

If you get a PAL white PC Engine though, then they'll only play JP hucards.. so I suppose it's an option either way. Probably easier to  get US versions though....
