Air Zonk Strategy

Start working on this game today.  I have been playing with the friends option on auto but for those of you that play on manual, whats you choice of friend per level?

When you play with friends on the early levels it's easy to get the giant smilies to get your friends to come out but on the last level when you actually need a friend you can hardly find them.
Alone is waaaay better, I stick with the guy in the red car when I can.
As far as strategy goes, charge up all the time. You pretty much should just be charging like nonstop most the game. Charged shots destroy most enemy fire and even turns a lot of bullets to smilies so you can really bulk up the points and get more lives that way.

It really doesn't seem like it's better at first till your helper saves your butt in the factory at the end. Oh and there's less mini zonk power ups since a lot are changed to your helpers

I still suck but made it a lot farther

I usually try to shoot things and not get shot myself.  Sounds crazy, but it works for me.

Game has 2 endings one for friends and one for alone mode
if you go friends I like
1stage- tojo or dog(forget his name)
2stage- moo moo destroys everything fast..or dog is good
3stage- spike ree crab drop good for football bosses second form.
4stage- bubbleician
5stage- meh doesnt matter as you only get a friend for short time

also I think there is a programming mistake and the endings are mismatched lol

alone hmm i didn't think it would be easier that way, awesome. does anyone have a strategy for beating the final boss ?

Well if I remember right.. here are some tips(may not be perfect). -----spoilers on how I fight the last boss below (highlight if hard to read)

The pre final form or right after you are rewarded the 9 lives. drool will show up in three robot parts for around 30 seconds, stay on the lower two/thirds of the screen and do a clockwise circle to avoid the lightning and missiles, shoot the missiles and use your backfire to destroy the missiles the best you can. you will likely die at least once here.
Final form hug the left wall and avoid projectiles by moving up and down, charge for a few seconds and shoot charge shot.. repeat
Again missiles are the worst thing he shoots, do small loops around the missiles when he shoots these
When you die and come back invincible you can swoop in for a few free backfires by hovering on the boss but its a little risky because as you are getting back to the left side projectiles may get you.

Still have to beat the game once ! I always get to the last boss but for some reasons i suck at killing him !!!

Interesting... i didn't know there were 2 endings.  I'd beat it with "friends" back when it first came out, but the first time i played since then was during GOTW and I only beat it "alone".

Dammit... now i need to play through again with friends to see the other ending.  My thumb is already killing me after Lords of Thunder week, and Zonk is almost as hard on the thumbs!

That is one thing I noticed using earth armor over water you really have to move around a LOT more. Water you just sit back and kill shit than collect your money

Just did another play-through of LOT and my thumb is just fine after using the earth armor.  You guys must be holding the controller with a death grip.  Don't be too tense and have fun playing.

Yeah about the two endings like I said a few posts back these must be a mistake..
Watch both endings and tell me I'm not crazy when in friends mode you get the alone ending and in alone you get the friends ending. I gotta go check the pce version now...

checked out zonk pce and its the same - I think it is a mistake, but who knows

I'll never get used to Zonk dropping an exploding pink number 2 with sunglasses instead of a bomb.
And why is there another larger pink #2 in the glass dome? and why does drool have zonk strapped to a table in the intro? does the pce manual and the comic in it tell us?

If I'm not mistaken, King Drool's boss fight is also different on PC Denjin.  He looks way different.  I need to own both versions.

I think you are right about the endings being switched.  I beat it in the alone mode and the ending shows all the friends, which seem like a better suited ending for choosing the friend option.

Interesting.  I like seeing the slight variations in different game versions.  I guess I need to do another play though of the Japanese version too.

hmm just checked, drool boss appears to be the same..
drool does have a cross dressing sprite in one of the endings instead of an angry sprite in the US version
Some other changes to check out are
moo moos transformation with zonk
continue screen has a sing along (also can see drools cross dress sprite for a second)
and like i said a few posts back pink #2 instead of zonk charge bomb and instead of computer in glass dome
