Are there any books, special magazines that detail this gaming time frame from NEC's POV?

What about one that covers the whole industry from an international POV. It seems that console war only focuses on the US.

It's sad that no gaming journalist actually went to research how NEC established their US operation for the Turbografx, etc... they have SEGA stuff in so much detail and in the other hand we don't even know the name of the person who was the "big boss" of the Turbografx-16. NEC and TTi stuff would give a pretty interesting story IMO.

It's not actually too bad of a book although NEC is only mentioned twice once in the prologue and again in the next generation section. I'm still not sure if there is any truth to Sega of Japan turning down slicon valley and sony to help with Sega`s next gen console but it definitely wasn't a bad read by all means.

The Sega of America vs. Sega of Japan battle is discussed pretty in-depth in Service Games: The Rise and Fall of Sega, also.

My only gripe with that book is that Sam Pettus gets a little jingoistic about Sega in parts. But it's otherwise pretty good.

"Another failed entry to the U.S. market in the late 80's, the TurboGraphx-16 was marketed as a 16-bit console to compete with the upcoming Sega Genesis and other rumored systems.  This remake of the Japanese PC Engine, however, was in fact an 8-bit console and a weak one at that.  Based on the same CPU as the Nintendo Entertainment System, the TurboGraphx-16 failed to impress gamers with its bland, monochromatic graphics and sound capabilities reminiscent of the Atari 2600.  When true 16-bit systems were released with features such as Blast Processing and Mode 7, NEC rushed to release a poorly thought out CD attachment for the system as yet another marketing gimmick.  Systems sold worldwide never broke into the 6-figure range, and NEC of America ceased to exist after going bankrupt due to the rash of returns from unsatisfied gamers, which were then sold at a premium by a P.O.
