If there's anything that gaming delivers to players, it's death. Lots and lots of death. Sure, games have had a remarkable history of offering 1ups and continues, but damn, the deaths flowed like water.

If all the lives you lost in gaming were worth a nickel, which baddies have profited the most from your numerous demises?

/zpsd306804e.png

This burqa-clad, dagger tossing bitch in Ninja Gaiden could've bought a yacht with the lives she took from me. Growing up, this particular part of NG on the NES stopped me cold on many occasions because of this chick and her endless stream of daggers. More often than not, I'd end up stranded on the side of column as daggers rained down on Ryu like a tropical shower in Key West.  :x

Which enemies in your gaming life has taken MORE than their fair share of your lives?
My past-life would've surely led to our demise, and I had left it not a moment too soon. Our escape, though dangerous, had gone well. The train ride, sunlight, and passing snow-covered pine trees came together in a flickering show of our bright, new future together. Her head rested on my shoulder as she soundly slept to the gentle rocking of the passenger car. We felt freedom. We felt peace.

Those flying medusa heads in classic Castlevania games are always a pain in the ass with them knocking you off platforms and into pits. The Grim Reaper in the original Castlevania is another Death machine and takes a little bit of luck for me to beat.

when i first read this thread topic...first game that came to mind was Ninja Gaiden NES.
Ruthless respawns.

Also, as a kid...Mike Tyson.

For whatever reason i always get in this mode that i should avoid the medusa heads instead of just kill them. Never works out well.

Yes, Bats and every small flying creature who attacks you flying. I ALWAYS try to avoid them both in 2d and 3d games. They always seem to be too hard to kill and they always take a chunk of your life in the most annoying of the situations.

The only way I was ever able to fight Tyson was using the code (and he made very short work of me). The fighter who kept me from legitimately reaching Mike was Mr. Sandman. That guy friggin' SCARES me. When a massive 6'4" boxer tells me between rounds that I'm gonna have nightmares after he puts me to sleep, intimidation sets in real quick. Sandman repeatedly beat me like a whisk would an egg. Why he was before Super Macho Man (who I could regularly defeat) is a mystery.

Oh yeah; Labryinth Zone in Sonic the Hedgehog. I drowned more times than I care to admit.

Oh, I could easily 1cc GETTING to Tyson.  I whooped every boxer like it was a video game.
But Tyson...JESUS...Tyson.  It was probably just 6 or 7 years ago I beat him by decision.  Never (T)KO'd him to this day.

Screw little flying creatures, more recently for me its been those big honking dragonflies in Exile. What is up with those things!? They come screaming through the screen and you have NO time to react!

You mean in the very first action sequence? Just remember where they are, no worries. Also, in the large cave (the second part of the sequence), you can exploit the infinitely-appearing ants at the bottom to build up levels.

This, and freaking birds!  Doesn't matter what game it is.  Any game that has BIRDS!

bob

yeah...flying shit and random "out of reach"/respawn patterns definately win this conversation.
but more specifically...Tyson.

Environmental hazards lol.

I rarely die from actual damage taken but I seem to die in every pit/water/spike/trap out there :(

Id have to say my parents from when they would go and ruin my game by either unpluging or changing the tv channel.
