I have a Turbo Express coming and started looking for a PSU for it. There are actually some readily available nice/cheap options.

I went for a switching (regulated) PSU that is 7.5v, 1000mA (1A), with a 3.5mm x 1.35mm center positive tip. Here's a link. They're $5.90/shipped from the US or $4.80 from China.

Are those the right size connectors?

anyone confirm these are good replacement AC adapters? I wanna pull the trigger but want to make double sure.

Yes, the tip size is correct

According to their specs, they should be perfect. When mine arrives I will do thorough testing to verify this.

I actually ordered another PSU for my Nomads and Game Gears from the same seller.

Let us know how they work.

I have an official one and a Nyko or Naki one.

The power supply works perfectly. I tested it for about two or three hours today. The tip fits exactly--nice and snug. I imagine these are actually better choice than the original PSUs, since they're regulated voltage and much smaller.

The seller that I linked to ships fast too. I ordered it on Monday night from ebay seller superpowersupply and it arrived this afternoon  =D>

thx! ordered one too

Can you paste the exact link for the TE power supply?  The first link gave me a list and I don't want to order the incorrect one.  Great find, btw!

After a bad experience with a switching power supply (introduced electrical interferences in my SFAMICOM) I don't think I'm buying anything different than original regulated power supplies and, in my case, a stepdown.

Ouch. What type did you use? Did you make sure the voltage and amperage were exact?

Here are some links to the exact one that I'm using (EU or US plug versions):

Thanks for the tip I just ordered one for my Express that is on it's way.

What do you guys think of going the rechargeable battery route with the express?

I'd be very intersted in this mod, but I haven't seen a good writeup of the method (or battery specs) for doing it. Does anyone have a link or instructions?

those cheapo chinese supplies can be hit or miss.  some do introduce interference.  I have also heard that they are more prone to cause a fire if they fail.

I just use eneloop rechargeable in mine.

I do have some of those cheap chinese supplies around though, but I try not to use them.

Fellow user Duo_R made Li Ion battery packs for 'Expresses.

Rechargeable AAs are the safest best. I normally only use OEM PSUs, but they're horribly expensive in the case of the TE, so replacements were the better choice for me.

Here are a few pictures of the internals:

Nothing too worrying except for the lack of a fuse.

Well, it has the exact voltage but gives a little more A than the SF needs, so it's ok in terms of characteristics. At the beginning I thought my PVM was having the failure, then I changed the power adapter for a generic brick and voilĂ , no noise into the image. Here I saw myself saying "what the frak, stepdown and end of story".

Now the effin switcher is somewhere in the just-in-case-bin.

I have a couple of cheap 3 in 1 AC adapters that cause interference on SNES, NES, Master System, Genesis, etc.

SmokeMonster

Yeah, I wouldn't go aftermarket for consoles where it's so easy to get cheap OEM PSUs. This TE PSU seems to be good though, and doesn't cause any interference or other issues. It's exactly the same as AAs in my tests, both on my 2.5" TFT and when plugged to a TV. I'm only recommending it because TE PSUs are so expensive. If you can get OEM inexpensively, I'd say go for it. If not, these will do.

DragonmasterDan

Mine arrived today, worked fine through about 30 minutes of use.

The cord is a bit shorter than my official AC adapter or my Naki one. It might be a good idea to buy an extension cable with this one with all the money you saved.

I also need a power supply and I was wondering if this is suitable for my turbo express? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/221227273063?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

As long as the TE is centre positive then it has the right voltage and enough ampage. Seems cheap but if it lasts a while good enough.

Thanks, I can't find any other choices tbh in Europe or Uk that are not more than 20 pounds (and they are all unofficial). Problem is I am not entirely sure what to search for too ;(

Awesome, thanks again Wildfruit. I have never seen that before. I think I will go for it and if I do, I will report here impressions.
