@GTV reviews the Cosmic Fantasy 1-2 Switch collection by Edia, provides examples of the poor English editing/localization work. It's much worse for CF1. Rated "D" for disappointment, finding that TurboGrafx CF2 is better & while CF1's the real draw, Edia screwed it up...

Ok I was so close to purchasing a Stryder cab but the seller backed out.

Too bad because I need a horizontal cab for all the arcade PCBs I own.

So decided to start a project in the meantime:

leave that PSU in the case!
it prevents all kinds of fuckery.

Duo_R

Shouldn't be an issue, I got stand offs for it so it's fine.

you at least need a plastic shield between it and everything else
the voltages in the supply would destroy anything they came in contact with

Appreciate you looking out, I have a plastic Sheild below. Just gotta make sure it's a solid install and nothing will come loose.

And also there is a cover for the enclosure :-)

Building a supergun can be fun, but the Arcade Forge MAK Strike supergun is so cheap (and nice) that it isn't worth the time unless you're just doing it to do it.

Duo_R

I'll have to check that out. But I do enjoy building and I would think I would save on cost especially since I already have slot of parts from previous projects.

OK James from Jamma X says it's still better to build. Tempting tho....

Yeah, those posts are from over a year ago and after looking at the pictures the ones they are selling now appear to be a revision which could possibly have addressed the issues.  Another person I was talking to on chat has one and they seem to love it.  I don't have the cash to pick one up now, but I would be tempted in the future.

I can only speak of my own experiences, but mine works great.  Uses Neo-Geo controllers, which I already had.  You can buy their power supply or just use your own.  It's RGB-only, so 95% of what it's doing is just pass-though.  Build quality seems just fine.  I think the quality of the power supply is more important, frankly.  This uses a standard molex or whatever connector so you could just as easily use a nice PC power supply with it, I think.

Duo_R

Cool if it just passed through RGB I already have the parts to do that for less cost. Cool idea tho, I think I like the idea of an enclosure that the PCB could rest on while using. What video encoder are you using this with?

Looks good so far. I helped my friend build one a couple months ago and he wanted everything possible for it so it was a lot of wiring but in the end it looks great and has just about every kind of video out option

I just have standoffs on the supergun, and have them screwed into a piece of plywood that I cut (and plan on painting).  I wouldn't want to just have the thing (and the PCB) all loosey-goosey, but the wood makes a nice platform for the PCB to sit on.

I don't use a video encoder.  PVMs 4 lyfe.

Edit: The two nice things about the supergun are the voltage readout (let's you use an adjustable power supply) and the video intensity adjustment knob.  I've noticed that the video levels from some PCB are stronger than others.  And some PCBs definitely suck more juice than others.

Duo_R

PVM....lucky you! That 5v meter is nice I may have to add that in at some point.

I love my vogatek, it plays my mvs games nicely. :) Still need to create a enclosure for it though along with my mvs board.

Duo_R

OK update pic, jamma slot installed, plexi installed on front of case. Power supply is in there and secure, and added a power light for the front.

Goal is something that looks like a component found in your entertainment center and also can rest the arcade PCB on top (I will have a non conductive surface on the top).

It used to be a direct TV satellite box. Still got more work to go but coming along. The rectangular hole at the top for example won't be visible.

It's looking awesome. Some people pay almost $200 just for cases for their superguns lol. I like recycling old electronics too for this kind  of stuff.

Yeah the old DVR is from 2005, so recycled instead of junked.

Made some progress, metal case takes a while to work on lol

All the jacks and plugs are cutout, just need to wire everything up now.

I was looking at that broken glass + shredded yak hair, too. I didn't want to be rude, but I assumed the worst.

Yeah I thought it was a broken glass, too.

Edit:  That supergun looks like it's coming along really well.  Is the slot at the front at the right height that you can just slide a PCB with feet right up to it, or are you going to use a JAMMA extender and have the PCB sitting on top of the unit?

Duo_R

I'm going to use a Jamma extender for this

WOW that Supergun turned out FANTASTIC! This is what the hobby is all about in my eyes, DIY. Nothing quite like building a supergun and playing the games you love on it! You see people dropping $400 on nice units like this but the true gamers build their own!
You really did a nice job and have a great eye for detail. Just curious though, how do you have the audio wired up? I'm assuming you have RCA's on the back and a stereo/mono switch?

Duo_R

Hey yes it actually has a Din 8 just like the ones I use on RGB Duo-Rs and has stereo output with a stereo / mono switch. I might have plans for a couple more mods that would really increase the cool factor. We will see

I enjoyed this more than the consolized MVS as there was a little more freedom on how it was designed. MVS (at least the 2 slot) was pretty straightforward,  this was a blank canvas and I really enjoyed that. I got to pick where everything goes.
